  1. Like OP I am still in the planning stages for Summer 2017 and have narrowed to Princess. I really wanted to go for my husband's 65th birthday, Sept 10. Thanks to the other thread with the spreadsheet of sailing dates and itineraries, I think we have narrowed down the ship to Star on a Northbound sailing and the cabin to starboard corner aft (hoping I can get it). Now I am concerned, as shoulder season, it might be too cold on the decks. Just how cold will it get? We are from Chicago and so are no stranger to cold weather. I just don't know how bad it will get there.

  2.

Thanks for the lesson in political correctness. Just reading this thread has me nervous again - what is with the obsession with prime rib portions and shrimp portions? I thought the Escape might attract a less food obsessed crowd - looks like I might be wrong. I dread sitting next to people complaining they couldn't order everything off the menu and hoarding at the buffet.

Maybe I should upgrade to the Haven in hopes of being around people who don't value their vacation $ by the amount of food they can put on a plastic tray or the amount of plates they can order in a dining room or whether they got a 1/2 pound of prime rib vs a pound (when it is recommended that your portion be 4oz of meat in a balanced meal?)?

I would personally rather be around people that overeat the entire cruise than get completely drunk the entire cruise. To each his own.

  3. Ideally, yes, but changes can be a lot more complicated than the initial booking, since promos and other booking conditions may have changed, the cancellation policy may have kicked in, and in general the changes you want to make may have unforeseen consequences that someone on the phone should be able to warn you about before you pull the trigger. Also, if you are looking to change cabins or cabin types, they may be able to offer you different selection and pricing than what you see on the website for new bookings.

But I think the main reason they don't let you change things on-line is because they don't want to make it too easy for you to make changes, or (worse yet) cancel. They want to make it easy to book, easy to add extras to your booking, but more difficult to change your mind about any of it.

Makes sense that they wouldn't want me to easily cancel, but upgrade should be simple enough I would think. I think I will leave it as it is for now. If a great upgrade come along right before hand, I will mess with it then.

  4. I hope that you enjoy your 2 days but is that enough of a test? :D Our first NCL was 7 days and we love the actual cruising but not the b... s... that we are fed from Miami. ;)

Good luck and I hope you really enjoy yourself; make the most of it.

I am afraid of getting seasick, so we will combine with some land based sightseeing, if all goes well, we will probably graduate to a 7 day cruise at some point.

  5. That might seem logical to you, me and thousands of others. But since when has NCL done or allowed anything logical!!

Lol. :p Well as a first time cruiser, I don't necessarily know how NCL does things, but judging by the titles of threads in this forum , I am glad that I only booked a two day cruise, just in case I don't like it.

  6. Hi I recently booked a cruise with NCL. Was toying with the idea that I may want to either change the stateroom number and / or upgrade the room type, but I don't see that change option anywhere when I go into the booking details? All clicking on the stateroom number gets me are pictures of the room types. Or is this something I have to call NCL to ask about price differences / room differences?

  7. I just finally booked my first cruise after years of convincing the hubby to try it. We finally agreed on an itinerary where neither of us have been to the sailing port and a 4 night cruise. That way if we don't like cruising we don't have to sit on the boat for a week, but if we do like it, we can book another one for a longer time relatively quickly behind that.

My husband insisted on a balcony unit at a minimum, and a cigar bar! So after doing my research here I booked an aft corner unit on a 4 night RCCL Independence of the Seas, hopeful that we will like it. It's more than a year out since we timeshare also and are already booked solid for 2016 vacation wise.

You can always book something with a deposit and change it or get a refund if needed, so try not to overthink it. Start with what ports you want to see and go from there.

  8. On the very last day of the BOGOHO deal - a Sunday night, we booked Anthem for the June 16th out of cape liberty. For sure, we thought, we're getting a decent rate for the balcony we reserved.

Two? days later, DW went and noticed the "new" 30% off rate. Being the way she is, she re-calculated and noticed that, with the new 30% off rate, we were saving money, so she called in to RCL and that call, with the adjustment in rates, saved us exactly $298.

So, I am very happy with the 30% off rate.

Can someone walk me through the process of looking for a difference in price? Do you literally do a new search online on the same exact itinerary/stateroom category for your dates? And if it's cheaper you call RCCL and say I want the cheaper price I just saw online? Do you have to cancel and rebook, where you lose your choice of room number? Or do they just adjust the price and the existing reservation remains exactly the same?

  9. Can someone point out where exactly the spreadsheet is? Also, if you have to purchase for the whole cruise, is that by nights or days? In other words, if it is a four night (five day) cruise am I purchasing four "nights" of beverage package or five "days"? Hope this makes sense.
