  1. I am not sure if you are asking whether your premium will be refunded? If that is what you are asking, I would think so, since the carrier cancelled, and it's not you cancelling. If you are asking about what to do about ancillary costs, call the providers and talk to them. I called my airline and explained what was up. They did not charge me a change fee even though they could have, and so I rebooked my airfare for a future trip I already had planned for only the difference in fare. Which I felt was fair under the circumstances. So I am not really out too much, because everything else was cancellable and refundable, and I would have bought that new airfare in the future anyway.

  2. More than likely, they are trying to reach a younger audience through facebook, than those members on these boards.

That being said, I received a call today from my "personal cruise consultant" (whom I have never heard from/of before) and she said she was calling because I filled out the interest form on the edge website. I tried to get the homeport or itinerary details from her, and she said she won't have them until Monday at Noon. (RIGHT!) Right after we got off the phone she followed that up with an email (canned language). Anyway, they are desperately trying to generate buzz and get the word out, it seems. They just won't tell us, what the ship looks like, where it's going, where it leaves from, etc.

  3. This is the pin i did for this cruise. If anyone going on the 20 May Cuba cruise wants one let me know before April and I'll add you to the list. Around or less than 5 bucks (my cost) depending on how many I get made. I give them to the crew when I see them doing nice things for the passengers. John Steele gave me an idea how to reward the crew and thought it was a good idea. If you're currently on Empress I still have a few. I wear a T shirt with the same design.

I would be interested in 3. We will be on the 5/20 sailing as well.

  4. So I called this morning - and switched. Total before with sip and sail was $859 more than new pricing under 3 for free, taking into account the lesser OBC ($400 in lieu of beverage package v $200) and the prepaid grats ($259) with the cheaper price ($600 less).

    It's a win for me.

  5. So now that the sale is out, what is the verdict. It seems like I can save $1,000 plus on my booking if I switch, taking into account the obc and the cheaper price. We aren't big drinkers, so wouldn't really be able to maximize the sip n sail I don't think. That $1000 is a huge difference to me. Any reasons I am missing as to why I shouldn't take the reprice?

  6. I am the trip planner (and financier) for all trips. I just plan what I want and tell hubby where and when we are going. I plan all flights, excursions, tours, etc. I don't mind it but it can be a little overwhelming at times.

In fact, my planning is so good that our daughter and nephew (with their SO's), and another couple that we have been friends with for a long time, ask when the next "family" trip is while we are in the airport on the way home. They are also used to just asking what their $ share is and where/when we are going. They leave everything detail wise to me. At times, I wish it was someone else's responsibility but the control freak in me won't let me relinquish the task to anyone else, so it's a struggle. ;)

  7. I am sorry this is happening to you. Despite you giving more than adequate notice, your workplace is determined to keep you from enjoying or even going on your vacation. I hope you will be able to complete their project before you go, and then try to have a good time. You should be prepared for more static from your job, they would probably like you to quit, so they will keep making your work life uncomfortable. I have known many people that have been subjected to this type of crap, and it's very wrong. Best wishes.

  8. Oh my goodness. Its not necessary to keep quoting Rccl website. You know when dressed appropriately. Men. No shorts. There is no such thing as dress shorts for men. Seriously. Wear slacks. Change after dinner if you are so uncomfortable. I'm reminded of the Charlie Sheen character that never wore pants. Its not this difficult. Or wear shorts but stop pretending it's appropriate. Its not. As quoted in the website a million times.

Of COURSE there are dress shorts.

Those would be acceptable in a dining room.

I agree with you that Athletic, cargo shorts or jean shorts would not be appropriate.

  9. You may want to have a table to yourself and your travel partners instead of sharing with others. The others you are sitting with for dinner may not appreciate having to wait the extra time necessary for you to order what you want and as much as you want. That is why is may be anyone else's business - they may have come to dinner expecting a normal dinner of an appetizer, an entree, a dessert and heading off to another activity. Then, they have to wait for a stranger at their table to have multiple appetizers, try a couple of entrees and maybe a few desserts...

As for the flat fee through tips, they are not your slaves - they have others to serve. ;)

Asking for one extra plate of pasta between two people means I am taking up so much extra time that the waiter has become my slave?! Really?! I never said anything in my post about ordering extra appetizers AND desserts as well as entrees. Don't exaggerate.

I hope that you never hear a rude remark from a waiter either. You must realize though that if you choose to dine with strangers that your manners will be observed by your fellow table mates?

Again, ordering one extra plate of whatever (app, entree or dessert) =to you that I have no manners?! I guess I better make sure to get my own table then.

  10. Hello. Could anyone out there tell me if the different editions of the towel books all have the same animals? Or different ones? I would like to know if I can buy an older edition on EBay or somewhere and get the same instructions as the current book, or does each edition contain new instructions, so that getting all four editions means 4 different sets of animals?

  11. Having never been on a cruise, I haven't yet experienced this dilemma. I would hope that I would never have a rude remark made by a waiter or a fellow passenger give a squinty eye if I decide to order a pasta or risotto entree for my husband and I to split along with our steak entrees.

I really feel that too many people nowadays are in other people's business, yet don't appreciate other people being in theirs.

My take is, if you want an extra plate of food, order it:

    A. I am on vacation, I certainly don't do this everyday and could see myself wanting to try something new on vacation that I wouldn't want to pay extra for at home (in case I didn't like it)

    B. Even if I did eat like that everyday, so what? How is that anyone else's business? And

    C. The waiter gets paid a flat fee through my tips to bring me whatever I ask for, one more plate shouldn't make a difference either way to him/ her.

  12. Thank you so much for this thread! I had been saving these AARP points for years and never knew what to do with them. I just bought $1100 of gift cards for Carnival, and this is saving me $110! Thank you, thank you, thank you, this takes some of the sting out of the price.
