  1. Again,:the specialties are an option. There is still plenty of good food to eat otherwise. Every time that I go to one I think that it's a good deal compared to going out @ home. However this is just my opinion.

There are people, like myself, that have pretty simplistic taste so I don't have to have fancy food that I pay for... even the stuff in the MDR is much more extravagant than what I eat at home typically. LOL

  2. Does anyone have a recommendation? We wood like to design our own Fay without the hassle of driving

I know this is an OLD thread, but I noticed it was revived.......... we are using Jay Dorrance of Tread Lightly Kauai - he came recommended here on CC and on Trip Advisor. A full day will run us about $500/ 4 people.. that includes everything but lunch. BTW, his wife is a tour guide also, operates under own business name (can't think of it offhand).

  3. I can't speak for everyone but I like to pre-pay as much as I can before the cruise because it's one less thing to worry about and it keeps the final balance low. I lose nothing by pre-paying except maybe a little time to get the money back if for some reason I have to cancel the cruise.

Same here, you have to pay it anyhow, so why not pay for as much as possible and get it out of the way.

Our service charges were $80 a person and how much interest is that going to earn in a regular savings account in the 10 weeks before the payment is due and the ship sails? a penny or two?

  4. Just wanted to add one more quick thing. In Roatan we did a beach excursion. On the bus coming back their were (3) families who were "Missing" credit cards. One family was missing cards and cash.

Be aware that getting a prepaid VISA replaced in the event of loss or theft is much more difficult (though not entirely impossible) than a regular credit card......

please make sure you know the terms of the prepaid cards before you rely on them for vacation expenses or spending .

  5. We bought one and put $500.00 on it for our Dawn cruise in November. We used it in Roatan, Belize, Costa Maya and Cozumel. Its a little safer than other credit cards

Not true. I just wouldn't use my bank DEBIT card ...but using 'credit cards' is totally safe. You are never responsible for charges you didn't make; just be sure to call your issuing bank to have a travel notation put on your account so they know 'where' you will be.

  6. Have two days before or the disembarkation day of the cruise to see Pearl Harbor which is a must. Any suggestions on when would be best to go? Our plane leaves at 4PM

    Thanks so much!

we're flying in the Thursday before our Sat cruise on POA............. so we're going to do everything the 2 days before we sail... but then again, our plane flies out at 2-3 pm Saturday. I think we will be too pooped to do much after the cruise :D

  7. Cactusflower527, Don't feel left out, we use our card at least a couple times per week and we have never received any of these offers.

I think I figured out if you sign up for those BankAmeriDeals thing, you can use either your debit card or credit card through B of A. I have both, since I bank there ... and have my mortgage there (not my choice, they got the CountryWide portfolio when CW folded). B of A gives me a really slick top-tier checking account for free... so I take advantage of all I can. But I still only use the card to make my NCL payment to tap the double points.

    For nothing else really..

  8. When we were younger we never did anything but take the kids to Disney. Now that we are older and worked our whole Lives we can appreciate what we have worked so hard for, travel more , upgrade home etc... We didn't have granite counters, a large home when younger so now that we are older we do appreciate all the more. Set goals and learn in time it will all come. If young, Save Save and Save more. Set priorities. Travel is a luxury and will come in time if planned properly.

Agreed. I am taking my first cruise this coming May - on POA (Hawaii)... I will be 50 - never any too elaborate of vacations when my son was little (he's 23 now). Disney, San Diego, the beach etc. the usual family trips. Right now....I''m just enjoying life....I saved up a long time for this trip in May - $225 month x 18 months. I suckered some family/friends to go along to help with costs. When I get back from Hawaii, I hope to have no debt from the trip at all. Then I'll start saving for 'another' one in 2016.

  9. I have done this for my children. The card will be in your name, same account as your husband's. The only thing that presents a small issue, is that when you get the statement, it does not indicate who charged what. So you have to verify the charges with those on the account to make sure all are legit. The extra cards wil not add to credit ratings of the holders, only the main account holder.

Depends on the bank..Capital one issues each user their own individual card number --- my son is an authorized user on my Capital One credit card account and has his own card, and his own number and they even split it out on the statement, what was charged to each card. I am not sure how many other banks do this..(Discover doesn't, I know that)

  10. Thanks I figured that he would have to be there. I did already purchase $200 of OBC and casino credit and plan on prepaying service charges. Have to buy more OBC. Thanks again maybe the other board was a different cruise line.

The authorized user deal would be best.. same account, just your own card.

  11.

My primary reason for buying insurance is med evac.

I know a co-worker had to have his wife airlifted off the side of a mountain when she fell and hit her head, the bill just for helicopter flight was $70,000 that did not include all of the medical personnel onboard/medical attention or anything additional (once they got her to the hospital) !!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. I am onboard now. The concierge said all deck 13 cabins are full but I'm still working on him to get me in to take a picture :-). This picture is the balcony on 13002...its very big :-)....not as big as 13000/13500....but big. If you can't all fit inside have someone sleep outside ;-). I woke up at 4 am our first night and didn't want to disturb anyone so I put on my robe and went out back on our balcony (a wrap-around on aft ) and laid looking at the stars for an hour or so. It was awesome !!

we have 13502 and were told our balcony was 500' square feet ...

  13. Visiting Hawaii has been a dream of mine for a long time, but I've always had a problem trying to find somebody to travel with me.

You are sailing a week after we do .......... I think May will be a fabulous month to see the Islands, it's between Spring Break and summer vacation rush.

The POA itinerary is so PORT INTENSIVE, you won't be in your cabin much anyhow.

It is an expensive cruise - our Suite was $10,200 after taxes etc .. but we are splitting it 4 ways, so it came out to $2550 a person. We are spending a couple of days pre-cruise in Oahu as well...

  14. So NCL asked for a method of payment, so I used my credit card. After my trip I'm looking at my bank statement and it hasn't popped up yet. No charges. It was pending for the week I was using it, but now 4 days later it disappeared.

Has this happened to anyone? Or does anyone know how long it takes to process??

    Thanks!:D:D

Mine always appears immediately (pending) and then posts by the next day, but I'm using the NCL Mastercard through Bank of America...

my brother tried to pay on our itinerary through is account (Visa Debit) and even though NCL told him it was going through, it wasn't...

EDITED for: Never mind though, I was reading this thread wrong, sounds like you guys have already sailed.. we are still paying on our cruise fare.

  15. Good luck with this inquiry.these cabins are new, and with only 4 of them on this ship, reviews and information are in short supply.i have been looking and asking for this info since the construction began.if you can wait, my cruise over the New Years holiday is coming up soon and I promise a short review with pics!

Yes, they have only been selling those cabins since Sept? October? of this year.. and yes, there are only 4 of them (at present) on the 13th Deck.

  16. What a headache. So after all of the transfers were done - and I thought things were situated with this bonus cabin for our hawaii trip.. in fact they transferred enough money over to the 2nd freebie cabin (assigned to my brother), it is paid off with $0 owing; he is now getting emails demanding him to pay the $250 deposit. Gah........... there is not even any money owing this cabin he's staying in.. I will be calling the Executive office Escalation lady - Catherine - on Thursday to straighten this out.
