  1. I'm sure it was just a joke.

I put my email as my "junk" email which I never check...and all the junk mail they send me is fine. We have a recycling bin in the garage for that which eventually makes it way to our shredding company. Most mail doesn't even make it past the garage door. ;) Sh

yes, I know it was humor (used LOL twice)

I like to mitigate "mailbox" junk mail.. saves trees. Just warning people that AARP does offer some decent discounts, but I also feel they are in business to gather names/addresses to resell. And yep........... I realize a lot of places do that.

  2. That's funny. :D Yes, I'm a junior senior and proud of it. ;)

what makes a 50 year old person a Senior Citizen  Now I feel old LOL

by The way unless there is a way to opt out on crap .. be prepared to get a ton of junk mail, email and for them to sell your name and address ALL OVER creation.

My parent's mailbox is FULL of stuff every day between that and whatever information that the SSA sells out... I guess that's how they can sell those memberships for $16. LOL

  3. That is surprising....It probably is about the size of a standard inside cabin.....

I wonder if it will have any of the amenities of the Studio Lounges on the Epic and Breakawy...doesn't seem like it would be efficient to have them for so limited a potential use.

And I doubt that they would schedule the "Single and Solo Traveler's" nightly get-together in that space.....

A friend of mine actually had one booked for our May 2014 sailing –just for the extra bathroom and place for her to sleep (privacy) because it was right across the hall from our suite.. and we thought pushing it to put 5 in the suite (even though it was advertised as sleeping as many as 5 or 6).

As it turned out though, we had a person in our Suite cancel over the summer – decided he couldn’t go – and so that freed up an extra bed in our suite, so she cancelled her solo room ... and I put her on our itinerary.

The impression I got is that the room (cabin) itself was quite small, referred to as a broom closet with a small bed and bathroom (by someone who’d seen on a tour before they were actually booking folks to them).

I don’t think my friend would have been using the lounge because she wasn’t really a ‘solo’ traveler, she was traveling with us – just had her own room. She would have been hanging out most of the time in our suite with us…..maybe that is or ISN'T the case with other solo travelers.

  4. Wow - That is really sad. I too would have been very upset. We sailed on the POA in 2009 and loved her. We had no complaints infact it was our first cruise and set the stage for many more to come.

I sure hope that NCL does something to fix these problems as no one deserves to spend their cruise trying to get things fixed.

Hope the rest of the cruise was good and that you still enjoyed some family time.

I think everyone has a different experience with POA, depends what your expectations are when you go into it. SH-T happens and I think we should all know that. Most people take this cruise to see the islands and don't focus so intently on the ship-experience itself. Of course people are justified in having things fixed that are within the ship's control. It always seems like (some) people allow this sort of thing to ruin their vacation. I hope this is not the case, but it sure seems like it when people post only negative things about their trip.

  5. i don't expect anything from a ship buffet anymore except for whatever it is to at least be moderately warm.

on another note, is there anything you wish you would have packed for the weather on the island? i haven't done my research on this yet but since i have you all's attention....

light jacket w/lining, waterproof, with hood? more sleeves, less sleeves? more long pants, less shorts? no flip-flops?

Hawaii is like beautiful summer weather year around.. definitely.. shorts, tank tops, flip flops........(among other things, Hawaii is SUPER CASUAL)..... and yes, it can and does rain there, but it's usually just cloud burst-style raining, not 'raining all day'.

  6. As you can see our "mailing" day got delayed .. due to relatives being in town, then I got sick with a cold....................Today's update: final draft of our letter to NCL CEO, with copies going to Atty General(s), FTC etc etc... complete with screen prints of our Suite 13502 - still showing it as a class SD with 2 bedroom and 2 bathrooms and still calling it a: 2 Bedroom Deluxe Family Suite with Large balcony. I am not sure what will come of all this, but will keep everyone updated.

  7. If going to Hawaii again for the 1st time would you choose to take this cruise or would you do a land vacation? My DH and I are on opposite sides of this coin and I would appreciate your opions. Thanks!

my mom did POA in Sept 2011, and then they took a land vacation to Oahu a few weeks ago and mom said, hands down the cruise was 'more fun'.... but the land vacation seemed a bit more relaxing.. b/c they were not on any set schedule with things. Granted you COULD do that on the ship, too, but who wants to? :D

  8. I think it depends on whether you want to really "live" Hawaii on a single island or see the great variety that is across four islands. For us as first time visitors, we firmly believe that the cruise was the perfect way to sample the islands & we'd do it again in a heartbeat.

    I agree! I think a b2b would be fabulous. If only :p

B2B in an owner's suite.... when I win the lottery .. maybe :D

  9. Can you share the layouts you got? I have both 13002 and 13000 booked and I really want to see the layout of the room, and the balconies.

A curtain down the middle of the room on a room that sleeps 6 (and is described as two separate bedrooms) is just wrong. It seems to meet every definition of false or misleading advertising.

the gal I spoke to at NCL told me there are NO 2 BEDROOM/bathroom suites on DECK 13 at all....

  10. So Guest Services (had to be transferred to two different people before someone could "help" me) says they have no idea why the Owner's Suite description and photo is what now shows up on my reservation. They *promise* that I do have 12006, and that is the Deluxe Owner's Suite that is 1,382 square feet. I told them that surely they could understand why I don't have a great deal of faith in NCL right now given that I now have TWO issues with my suite. I also noted that they are getting some bad publicity on Cruise Critic, that at least some of their customers feel they've been deceived (not a good thing) and that they really need to do something sooner rather than later to fix this.

They promise a supervisor will call me.

Probably for the same reason that we've been told we have a suite with 1 bedroom ... and only 1 bathroom etc .. and yet the photo shows the 2 br and 2 bathrooms .........and is still labeled SD (which is the same class assigned to 13502). The letter is still going out to the Florida AG ...

  11. Interesting. I was offered 9500 and was SPECIFICALLY told by the NCL representative that absolutely nothing had been done to the suite during the dry dock.

I actually think some degree of work (like carpet changes etc) can happen while the ship is in port during the day or perhaps when a room doesn't get booked. Not all of the reno was doing during the dry dock

  12. I just want to tell you what a great job with those photos as I stared to open up your review I said to my husband I don't think Alaska is a cruise I want to do . Let me tell you by the end of your review I have changed my mind and we have begun looking at sail dates and price . ;):D:Dwow it looked like a trip of a lifetime thanks

I feel the same way now, but also because I remember an older gentleman I used to work with (probably my folks' age at the time)... he and his wife cruised twice a year and they'd been EVERYWHERE. He said the Alaska cruises were their favorite. Now I can see why

Hopefully we get to do one of these in 2015 (next year is Hawaii)

  13. We are in the process of drafting up a letter to send to the Florida State Attorney General over this.. likely will be a couple of weeks before it's sent though... mom & dad need through their 50th Anniversary trip (no, not a cruise) and my mom is helping me draft it.

This should give a little bit of time for NCL to figure out how they can rectify this. We did the screen prints (from our Cruise Summary) of the suite and noticed there is an * (asterisk) that says something about not being available on Deck 13. So while they have made that notation now, it was NOT there a year ago when we booked. Not sure if we will get anywhere with the letter to the AG, but at least they need to know about the false advertising.

  14. Holy crap. I just looked at my reservation and they now have me in an Owner's Suite with Large Balcony-- NOT the Deluxe Owner's Suite. (Although they do still have the correct cabin number 12006.) The Owner's Suite is 1/2 the size of the room I booked... back on the phone...

let us know how this turns out ... if you still have the same suite #, does this just mean they had it labeled incorrectly all along?

  15. According to someone I spoke with today at NCL who said she was familiar with the cruise rewards program, said just the opposite. That only Bank of America was no longer offering rewards through NCL. NCL said they were still doing it. Hmmmm something stinks.

I totally agree.. Starting Oct 1, it sounds like the CARD ITSELF is no longer able to be used to gain cruise rewards, but you can still earn the 2 pts for $1 spent with NCL. No big deal for me though, I just plan to turn mine in for cash.

I'll just be sitting back and seeing what really happens.. after Oct 1

  16. The initial information found at the beginning of this FAQ is so wildly out of date it might prove worthwhile to delete it and start a new FAQ. Otherwise, people coming here for info have to really search through a whole lotta posts to find accurate info to questions they might have.

    Just a thought! :)

On the long threads like this, I just pop right to the end and work my way back.. I agree.. the posts at the beginning are pretty much worthless

  17. Yes, I agree. But heads need to roll on this. As another poster stated, blueprints and construction were in place when cabins were sold. Someone obviously dropped the ball big time. And where was the oversight?:confused:

I don't know.. I just know we're affected by this................... we thought we were getting a 2 br and 2 bath suite and now we are getting something that may be as big square footage wise, but missing the extra bedroom and bathroom. Thank goodness there are only 4 of us (and 3 of us are immediate family-members) and the 4th is a friend of mine I've known for 25+ years so we are like sisters. I don't think there is going to be a problem.. we are not happy but we will make-do. It's just a bit annoying to look at our cruise summary and see this suite we're not getting waved in our faces, when we were told there is not even a suite anything like it on Deck 13, and ones like it are on other decks but are considered the higher priced owner suites. SIGH :( We have been saving since Oct 2012 and we are not 'rich' people, we can't just pull another $5k from the area where the sun doesn't shine.

  18. This is utterly inexcusable NCL!!!!

DH and I sailed on POA in May of 2009 in a BA cabin on Deck 11. It had a very nice, large balcony. I had sailed the previous year in a similar cabin with my Mumsie. Those cruises on POA cost a FORTUNE (to us) and the current pricing is also exorbitant, but we all had a blast.

I cannot believe the unprofessionalism and lack of ownership that is occurring here. They have to fix this! Personally, IMHO, if sometime booked a suite that was advertised as a two bedroom but turns out not to be, they need to be given a second cabin.

I love you NCL, but I feel a storm abrewin' and it's called Class Action LS!

Yes, that may well happen .. but resolution could be years & years down the road...
