  1. Thanks travelnap, look forward to FLL this season as we depart on N Statendam this Dec.
  2. Thanks England Bob. Are we related. Were you raised in Southern England.
  3. Thanks Mtn2Sea, as far as boarding times, happened to us in June on Eurodam to Alaska. Went from 1:20 pm to 12:20pm to 1:00pm to as you wish boarding 😀
  4. Thanks Cruzin Terri. Oh no just discovered I am late to the party. Have to wait eight months until National Grits Day 😩
  5. Thanks for sharing. The Managers of the Speciality Restaurants on the Eurodam this summer were all outstanding. Doddy at Canaletto, Hazel at Tarmaind and Abigail at Pinnacle.
  6. Thanks everyone including Roy. But I guess it’s kinder sad when it takes the National grab some nuts day to get my attention. Well, better late than never. When do we hear the ships tooting 😀
  7. Try to travel with friends or find friends on TA. We always do and play cards and games on the sea days. Otherwise you can only look at the sea so much before it gets boring 😳
  8. This is first time I am posting on this thread. Interesting thread, good info but I must say I never heard of National grab some nuts day. I promise not to go there 😀. My DW always says I like peanuts until I discovered cashews. I think that statement has a deeper meaning.
  9. Forgot to mention you need to arrange this ahead of time. We ate Tamarind on Saturday and arranged on Sunday to have shrimp on Wednesday.
  10. For y’all’s information, if you can sweet talk the Manager of the Restaurant, you might can get their special on a different night. Just did that on Eurodam to Alaska. Got grilled shrimp on Wed instead of Sat.
  11. Thanks for the heads up. Very informative thread. I guess when I put magnetic prunes on the cruise ship doors means we are looking for a couple of old fa_ts 😀. Can I say that?
  12. Maybe, Maybe you should try an all nude cruise, I would suspect there is nothing left to cause a scene! 😀
  13. Hi y'all, RedneckBob hear. You are probably wondering why I am responding to my post from a week ago on this thread. Well, it's like this. I will be sailing on the Beyond in November and remembered this great thread about the Beyond from this young lady, Miss Lunastella, from Ireland, and she listed her favorite speciality restaurants with her favorite entrees. So when I went to the thread with the review of the Beyond, there was my post near the end, wishing Miss L. a safe trip home. Well, I be dogged, she was already home, writing and completing her review, probably having one of those refreshing Guiness Lights in the process. I thought she was writing her review from the ship. How did I miss this? Well, Sherlock RedneckBob, it was obvious, her review started three days after the cruise ended. Or maybe it was the fact that early on in the review she stated because of bad wifi she would wait till she returned home to do a review. I guess RNB is kinder slow, there must be a joke hear; You might be a redneck if...better not go there, the wokers may attack me. I guess the phrase woke up has a new meaning from when I was raised. Not to digress since the start, I found the info about the restaurants and have booked per Miss Lunastella's review for this November. Once again thank for the info and an incredible review, From Home! I guess you could say that this review was, and excuse the pun, BEYOND belief!
  14. The only way to find out how many passengers are on board your ship is after you board the ship.
  15. Hello durangoscots, I do remember you from the cc meet & greet. Sorry to hear about Captain Dunforth. He was great.
  16. The Captain of the Maasdam on the VoV cruise in 2010 was Captain James Dunforth. I told the Captain if he hits the iceberg he will be Dunfor(th). 😀
  17. Oh my, Captain put the pedal to the medal. VoV 2010 Maasdam anchored at Qaqortog, Greenland. Not a fake picture. I remember having breakfast in Lido as we sailed into Bay and top of iceberg was the same level as Lido!
  18. I observed the over packing of these classes of ship several years ago on the Koningsdam. Even on our sailing in March on the Rotterdam the ship had 60% capacity and felt crowded in the Lido Restaurant several times. This is the problem. If you compare the Rotterdam to Celebrity Equinox which has similar passenger capacity, the Equinox is +20% larger in tonnage. At capacity the Equinox does not seem packed.
  19. Last! You welcome. May I recommend Pinnacle Grill and Tamarind. Both excellent with great service. Say hello to Abigail, Pinnacle Manager, for me and you will get a good seat. Well maybe not, I don’t know if she knows me as RNB.
  20. Ms Lunastella, Absolutely fantastic review. You just saved me a boatload of money. I planned to sail on the Beyond this November in one of those double wide suites, but after reading your thread I felt I had just cruised with y’all for ten days and now I don’t need to cruise. Also by looking at the pictures of all the food instead of consuming the food, I gained no weight; not like on my recent 14 day Alaska cruise. I gained so much weight that when I went to the bow of the ship to take pictures of whales, a whale jumped out of the water with a camera and took a picture of me 😳. Safe travels home.
  21. No. Service plus staff were excellent. Accommodations excellent. Ports excellent. Entertainment poor. No more live band, singers and dancers and professional entertainment excluding dance company in main showroom. No more piano bar, no more dance band in ocean bar, no more dance band in crows nest, etc, etc, etc
  22. Ditto. Having sailed on HAL for over forty years, our last cruise on HAL will be in December. We are not leaving HAL, HAL left us. I could write a detailed, lengthy report as to why but do not wish to bore some of you folks 😀
