I’m the OP and we paid about $8000 for 4 of us last summer, which was honestly a great price.  I hope I find a similar deal in the future.  We booked same cabin for this summer on Allure, and we are definitely not paying $8000 this summer.

As for back stage things, our Genie took our teenage sons back stage to meet the cast of the shows.  No charge for that.

We have it for our January 2021 trip - we definitely did not get it for $8000. We are very curious on all the Royal Genie can do for you!

  2. Hi All,

We always explore the islands we visit. We picked our cruise because it stops in Jamaica and this is one of the few islands we have not visited.

However, we are increasingly concerned about the safety of the island. We have heard tours have armed guards, people need escorts to visit ATM machines, etc. Our port is far from some of the places we thought we'd like to visit (i.e., Dunn's River Falls).

What have been your experiences? Safe or best not to leave the port area? We are a family of four with two teenagers.

    TIA!

  3. We booked the Hampton because we only needed one night pre-cruise (many we called had a two night minimum). The website said they had a shuttle, but I found out from a post on CC that they discontinued the shuttle. I called and verified that the shuttle was discontinued (their shuttle broke down and they are not planning on replacing it).

I have looked on the taxi websites for Galveston and cannot see rates. From the map, the hotel does not look too terribly far from the port, but we are wondering if it is worth it to continue looking for a different pre-cruise hotel with a shuttle or stay put and pay the taxi.

    TIA!

  4. We just booked the Hampton Inn and Suites for a pre-cruise one night stay (one of the few that did not have a two-night minimum). The amenities list cruise shuttle for a surcharge. Has anyone done this and are willing to share what the surcharge is?

Also, those who have stayed here, what is close to see for the day/evening that is walking distance?

    Thanks!

  5. I actually thought of that but didn't bother because we have the late seating and I figured it'd be dark. Think I should follow up and ask for that as well?

You are correct - we requested a window table last on FOS in January 2016 and we had the early seating (5:30) and it was dark already - time of year issue (plus the deck our seating was on had a deck walkway outside our window that was utilized by crew, so we saw crew members walking back and forth). It really wasn't an issue. I do like the window seat because there is less "walking around" the table from the waitstaff and other guests.

  6. Someone shared a map with table numbers on the Freedom of the Seas but we found out that the tables and numbers change configurations based on the number of passengers at each sitting and table requests. The numbers will be on the tables so when you get on the ship, go wander around the dining room and find your table. If it is not correct, see the staff and they may be able to make changes.

  7. Liberty sails year round from Galveston. Source: Port of Galveston.

As for the Coke Freestyle machines, they are not on Liberty and we were told on our cruse a couple of weeks ago they are only on the larger ships.

That isn't accurate as we sailed on Liberty's sister ship - Freedom of the Seas (EXACT same ship and layout with the exception of the new suite lounge in place of the concierge lounge on LOS) back in January of 2016 and we had the Freestyle machines.

I love how the crew make up information when asked.

  8. I think I read in someone's post that Liberty did not have Freestyle machines. I do not know how old the post was, so I am wondering for you that have been on LOS recently if the Freestyle machines have been added.

We sailed on FOS in January 2016 and they did have the Freestyle machines, so I am surprised that LOS doesn't since it was in dry dock spring 2016.

Any updates would be great - and if they don't have them...any idea why/when they will?

  9. Eating breakfast to order in The specialty restaurant away from the hustle and bustle of the Windjammer. My children think it is awesome when the concierge walks us off the ship in ports, by-passing the lines. On the Freedom, he shooed people off the elevator and switched the sign to priority service. Talk about feeling like a rock star for a twelve year old!!
