  1. That is exactly what I was talking about. The front page AD did not say anything about those conditions. You have to go and search that information out.

Just as every informed customer should. I always learn as much as I can about a potential purchase regardless of what it may be. To draw a comparison, would you go buy a new car and get the first one you see because it looked nice? I doubt it. I bet you would learn a little about that nice looking car. Things like safety ratings, fuel economy, creature comforts, and the list goes on.

This is no different. You neglected to learn about the product offerings (reading the T&C) and are now upset because you different qualify for the promotion. This all could have avoided had you learned about the product before trying purchase.

  2. I sent them screen shots of the offer and because I booked a sailing after May 1st 2016 the rules change and you only get one offer.

To me this sound very much like the bait and switch at the local quicky used car sales lot.

Can you choose two promos on an already booked cruise without re-booking at the current rate?

Doubt it, but just thought I'd ask. Can't hurt.

This may help. As it says below in the T&C.

If you are interested in reading the full T&C, open the promo link on the NCL site, scroll to the very bottom of the promo and voila, a link to the T&C

    TERMS & CONDITIONS

    Booking Window: 10/31/2015 - 11/1/2015 11:59 pm EST

    Applicable Sailings: 3-16 day sailings

Book sailings before May 1st, 2016 to Choose Two of the Offers Below. Book sailings after May 1st, 2016 to Choose One.

  3. I booked a few days into October. I looked at my invoice in detail. I have no idea why, but the base fare (guest fare) was charged using a 20% conversion rate. Everything else (taxes, beverage service charge, prepaid daily service charge) was charged using the 34% rate.

There is something wrong with that. You should not have two different rates for the same cruise. Everything associated with your cruise should be locked in at one exchange rate. I currently have 3 cruises booked. Two are at $1.11 exchange and the third is at the $1.19 rate. Everything aspect of these cruises show all charges and/or pre cruise purchases are at the respective rate for each cruise. Not two different rates. I would call your pcc/rep to confirm that your billing is correct. There may be an error somewhere with the booking that might be an easy fix.

  4. Can anyone help we are booking a B6 Large balcony cabin on the Epic but we would prefer to get one with the bed near the balcony - is this possible and if so how can you tell which rooms are configured this way?

    Help would be gratefully appreciated!!!

When we cruised the Epic we had cabin B6 12092. The bed is near the balcony and the sofa bed was closer to the cabin door. When looking at the deck plan and you can see the wall that curves away from the centre of the room, that is where the master bed is located. The second bed is located where the curve narrows the room just like 12092.

    Hope this helps

  5. I have been seeing mentions of this but no one goes into detail. If I have a drink before we are back out to sea.... I will see charges on my acct? Sailing the gem from New York. If this is true does that mean when we are in port the drinks are even more then the taxes we already paid? Which ports does this apply too? As some say just New York. If someone could clarify please. TIA

The 18% extra you are paying is not charged as a tax, it is a gratuity. When in the port of NY you will be charge the NY states tax. That is my understanding of what is happening. I am sure if I am not correct, somebody else will chime in with the correct info.

  6. I just checked My NCL account for my upcoming cruise. I went to Explore and Plan and noticed that the amount of excursions offered has dropped significantly. I started checking what was listed for each port of call and found that there is now only 1 excursion listed for Belize City when last week there were 12-15 different options. Could this be some kind of glitch on NCL's end? Has this happened to anyone else? Thanks for any info.

I am on the same sailing and show 20 shore excursions for Belize City alone. I concur with the rest, just another NCL website glitch.

  7. We sailed in January on the Dawn with Karabi and I have to agree with the others that she was very helpful. Always visible in the morning at Breakfast and at lunch as well as throughout the day. And if you couldn't find her when you needed/wanted her, she was always just a phone call away. We had no issues with Karabi at all. In fact we are sailing on the Dawn again in January and am hoping she will still be on board for that cruise as well.

I guess it simply is all a matter of personal preference and expectations but we had a wonderful experience with her. Now our butler on the other hand.....well let's say he was the invisible man but that is a story for another time and thread. ;)

    Enjoy your cruise!

  8. M&M's depend on the ship. If the ship carries them as snacks you can get them. Last year on the Dawn (DOS) none available. Butler, Concierge and HD all said no. Chips always available.

Strange - Last year on the Dawn (in April) we had no problem having a bowl of peanut M&Ms replenished by the butler in an SF cabin.

I agree! We were on the Dawn in January in an SJ and had an amazing amount of M&M's and gummy bears left everyday.

  9. I guess the Jade is going out of NOLA next year, so that may be my best bet.

Sorry to throw another wrench in your plan. The Jade is going to Tampa. This is copy from the NCL press release regarding the redeployment.

Norwegian Jade will replace Norwegian Star and homeport from Tampa from November 2016 through April 2017 and sail a seven-day Western Caribbean itinerary departing on Sundays to Cozumel, Mexico; Costa Maya, Mexico; Roatan (Bay Islands), Honduras; and Norwegian's new Caribbean destination experience, Harvest Caye, Belize. In addition, Norwegian Jade will also sail two eight-day Western Caribbean holiday sailings in December 2016. Guests aboard these two cruises will enjoy the holidays under the sun with ports of call in Cozumel, Mexico; Costa Ma

  10. And today Aug 10th- if you take any random date for 2015 it can be booked at 1.11 but when you look int 2016 it's 1.19.

I do not believe the rate structure you were told is entirely accurate. There is more to it that's for sure :)

I apologize for all the writing and questions to you. Was trying to explain it but now it seems like you understand what I was trying to say

Then how would explain my two bookings? As I have stated before both my 2016 and 2017 bookings are locked in at the $1.11 rate. Both were booked in January this year. With the pricing structure you are describing my exchange rate should progressively get worse but yet my rate remains the same. Very odd...

  11. You could all be pretty much right about Glitches, rate locks and group rates etc... we booked our cruise via Canadian TA in April. Not sure about this rate thing back then, just agreed with a price they gave me fit our budget. But after I logged in to NCL. I realize my rate is 1.19 (Teppanyaki cost is $25, but we got charged at $29.95) So that's %1.19 rate. So I'm guessing my rate was locked in at %1.19.

    BUT

When I added things to my account Via my TA like our transfers from Airport to Port, she said it was going to be $19 USD per person. but then she said because she made a deal with NCL, we got it at Par, so they only charged us $19 CAD.

    THEN NOW,

I just logged into my NCL and try to get more OBC, and I did $500, went to my shopping cart and about to check out and it's still $500 CAD. So still not sure if I were to do that, how much ACTUAL on board credit I would get. But since I really have nothing to loose (as I know you can get the money back when you didn't use it) I would probably buy a lot of them and see what happens. I guess I would be the Gennie Pig in this case.

That is a very interesting chain of events indeed. In any case it is a HUGE win for you!

  12. If rate changed to 1.19 in June should I not have had a rate of 1.19 instead of 1.11?? - And no I didn't book in advance or put a deposit down or none of that.. Never cruised NCL before either.. Found the cruise we wanted on July 18th - confirmed other travel arrangements, called in the 20th to pay in full at CAD rate which was 1.11.

If you say rate changed in June to 1.19 I should have gotten that rate no?

Now I am also highly confused....this is great for you but it goes against the rate setting structure explained to me by others both here and at NCL. But for whatever reason you got a great rate and that is awesome.

  13. Was the same price at a rate of 1.19

That sounds right as the NCL rate was set in June at $1.19. As I noted before the rate for the first quarter (Jan to Mar of this year) was set at $1.11 and that is when I booked both my Jan 2016 and Jan 2017 cruises. They are both locked in at that rate. But as our dollar has been dropping and when they did the rate reset in June it went to $1.19 and it should remain there till the next rate reset in September. It might remain the same, get better or maybe get worse. It all depends on how the Canadian dollar is trading at that time.

  14. I don't think that is entirely true.

    Here is an example.

You can use a Canadian travel site sell........off...... which displays the rates in CAD the same price NCL would charge by calling in.

I took a random cruise in Sept 2015 on NCL is $299USD on other site is $332CAD ---- 1.11 rate

I then took a random cruise in March 2016 on NCL is $324USD on other site is $386CAD ..... 1.19 rate

So they are using two rates already.

That might explain it...the (ahem) selloff travel site you price things through might be in fact charging those rates. I book directly with NCL and not a secondary agency. And from my experience booking direct that is how the rates are set. Independent agencies have the right to set their own pricing structure as long as NCL gets the right amount for the cruise, they are free to set the price and included perks as they see fit.

  15. When I follow those steps it goes into my cart at $100 CAD. Per my TA when the TA booked my cruise (as a group) back in 2013 the Fx was at par - so any payments on my account get the same rate even though I didn't book until February 2015.

When I get on board this coming saturday I am expecting to get 1:1 USD OBC for what I purchased in CDN!!

This makes perfect sense. The NCL exchange rate in Feb 2015 was $1.11 but your TA secured a group rate in 2013. So in essence, as far as NCL is concerned, all rooms booked under that group rate were made in 2013. That is a great win for you and everyone else who are in that same group rate.

  16. We booked July 20th 2015 at a rate of 1.11.

Another poster mentioned that when they check prices for 2015 it's 1.11 but when they go into cruises at 2016 its at 1.19. So maybe those that got 1.19 in the recent months booked trips for 2016?

That does not add up. I sailed once this year, January 2015 (booked in 2014), and for that booking I was given CAD at par. I now have two bookings for future cruises one for this coming January 2016 and one for January 2017. Both are locked in at the $1.11 rate.

I guess what I am trying to say is that the date of the actual cruise has nothing to do with the exchange rate but it is the date of when you book and make deposit that controls the rate.

Like I already explained in the other related thread you are subscribed to, NCL sets their exchange rate quarterly, based on the current state of the dollar. It is set for a 3 month period then reviewed. If a change is needed in the rate, it will change. However if the current rate is still competitive, no change required. So the info provided by the other poster is, in my opinion, is not correct.

  17. So glad I came upon this post. We just booked yesterday through a TA in CDN$. How often does the exchange rate fluctuate? Has it been $1.11 consistently for a while or should we buy credit, etc now even though our cruise is still months away (and we still haven't paid the balance haha).

I saw someone say they were "locked in" at that rate? What does that mean?

    Thanks!

I have been told by my PCC that NCL sets their exchange quarterly (every three months). If I have been tracking the rate correctly, January through March was set at $1.11. When they reset the exchange in April it was set at $1.19 as I have read reports from other Canadians that was the rate they received but from reading here it appears they may have reset their rate again back to $1.11 which is great news for those of us north of the border.

Regardless if the rate changes from now until you cruise, you are `locked in`at whatever rate you originally made your booking at. If, God forbid, our dollar dropped to a $1.50 rate your rate is protected at your booked rate. Hence the term locked in.

Hope this helps answer your question.

  18. It just sounds too good to be true.... Many other people didn't believe me when I said they charged me in CAD... And I even called NCL several times about this and been getting different answers.. The best one was, the guy said I will get $25 USD.... I even said to him.... Wouldn't that be too good to be true????? LOL and he said yeah you got lucky! I am like? I am going to get more if that is the case....... And he said nothing..... So I am just confuse... If what he said is true..... I could go crazy about this.....

Boorin - When you originally bought the OBC did it say $111.11 CAD? Have you checked any of your receipts or confirmation emails to see what it says??

This has me very curious now.

If you really only got charged $100 CAD I wonder if maybe something is up with their system. When we booked a couple weeks ago when logging into NCL site it basically displayed everything in USD and you had to click on the next page to see the CAD price.

Recently (I guess last week or so) it appears they updated their site a bit. Like where it reads my account top right (in that area underneath) it now reads "all funds are displayed in CAD" which it did not say that before and now it's much easier to see the CAD price on excursions and stuff. For the $100 gift card however, it says $100 and then says you will be charged $111.11 CAD. Presuming that the gift card of OBC is USD which it should be since everything on the boat is USD.

This leads me to believe that if in fact you were only charged $100CAD then when they updated the website to display CAD the tech department screwed something up in the script causing the actual $100 USD gift obc to be read as CAD by their system. Resulting in you only being charged $100 CAD - which would roughly be $90USD.

Have you given them a call to ask whats up? I am thinking website script error...

Besides a common NCL website glitch, I have another possibility to throw at you. NCL was offering CAD at par with USD for a very long time as our dollar was keeping pace with the green back. My last cruise (Jan 2015) was locked in at par but that was booked more than 1 year in advance. NCL only started to charge an exchange rate after our CAD started to take this downturn. If I remember correctly the pricing at par only disappeared early this year in January (I think) but I am not sure of the exact date of the change. All I know for sure is when I booked my two upcoming trips in January I received the $1.11 rate which my PCC apologized for as the rate had recently changed.

It is highly possible you booked before the change and were lucky enough to lock in at the even par pricing before the exchange was changed. Otherwise it very well may be a website glitch.

    My thoughts.....

  19. Ok can I do this?

    Buy $1000 OBC...

Then Cash it almost entirely out at the casino and then if I run a balance...instead of paying for it on my credit card, use the cash I cashed out at the casino to pay off the balance?

I am planning to buy FCC, so was going to use the OBC for that as well...

If you are just planning to use any purchased OBC for on ship expenditures, save the effort. Just allow NCL to charge things bought on board to your account. The OBC you purchase in CAD will be credited to your account in USD already since you are paying the exchange when you make the purchase. For example, I am locked in at a $1.11 rate so a $100 obc certificate will cost me $111 CAD and will show on account as $100 USD. No need to complicate things any further. Your FCC and anything else can just be charged to your on board account.

I plan on doing just that but when the need arises for cash, I will cash out some pre purchased OBC in the casino.

    Hope this helps...:)

  20. We purchased our cruise through an online TA in USD. Because we are Canadian can we go on our NCL reservation and purchase OBC in CDN dollars?

Simple answer is no. You must book with NCL or a US based TA that can/will book you in CAD in order for any purchases to be made in CAD. If you are currently booked in USD, all purchases and expenditures will be processed in USD.

Sorry for the bad news :(
