  1. Would you be willing to share who you booked your transportation with to get to Sea-Tac after the cruise? Trying to find how to get our party of 7 to the airport....

I use Seattle Express. It’s always worked great for me.

  2. The Tracy Arm Excursion is TOTALLY WORTH IT!!! Unless you are doing the Misty Fjord excursion in Ketchikan already I would highly recommend the Tracy Arm Excursion in Juneau.

I will post photos later (once I get the 1000+ sorted out) but we saw two humpback whales up close, two bears, four bald eagles, three harbor seals, countless waterfalls, and large blue icebergs literally bumping against the side of the boat. And the best part was spending over an hour within 150 - 200 yards from the face of the glacier and witnessing multiple ice calving. And they had free coffee and hot cocoa as well as donut holes to keep us warm and fed during the voyage. There was a naturalist on board who explained everything and they stopped for each animal sighting to allow everyone to get photos.

The Bliss came up behind us but stopped maybe 1/2 mile from the glacier. You could still see it but only from a distance. The excursion boat was MUCH MUCH closer.

Is it called The Tracy Arm Excursion. I’m going on the Bliss in September and I can’t find that shored listed.

  3. There was a seafood buffet (very good) on the maiden voyage (the paid one from Southampton to New York), but it was held totally unannounced one lunchtime, nothing of that sort in the evening... It did come as a surprise, and with hindsight was probably a dry run for the kitchen crew in advance of the Travel Agents visit...

I suspect you’ll have to wait to see the reports from the regular Alaska cruise...

If you’re a big seafood fan, especially Oysters, Ocean Blue is the place to seek out..

Thanks. I should clarify. The seafood buffet that my TA experienced probably was a lunch buffet. I don’t see any cruise line doing that to compete with their nighttime options. Princess used to have a seafood buffet of sorts on certain cruises a few years back, but they don’t do it anymore. I’d be impressed if Norwegian is doing it. I was suspicious that it was probably just for the agents, but I have to ask!!!

  4. I am pretty sure this and more were done for the VIP/celebrity launch cruise for promotional purposes. Our local TV channel showed large lobsters being served the dining room. when they were covering the 3 day launch party on board.

. I know NCL no longer offers lobster and or tails on board. No longer on Cagney's menu either.

Recently, we were in a Haven Suite for extended cruise. Last day , early in the morning, before debarkation, I went up to upper Haven Pool deck to take pictures. Could have knocked me over with a feather.

It was beautiful and amazing. Set up and looked like a 5 star resort.

I asked staff who were setting up what was going on. "It was for travel agents coming onboard to promote Haven".

We were on for 40 days and not once did we have use of lounges which were stacked and tied up, even during port days. Hammock not set up and were told it was not usable. That morning, Umbrellas and Haven embellished towels on loungers, colorful pillows, it was beautiful . Perfect example of false advertising, IMHO .

Interesting. Thanks. My TA was only on for 2 nights. That’s what I was wondering. I’m not surprised.

  5. They are all listed here. http://claalaska.com/?page_id=1551

You can also tell how many other ships will be in each port at the same time.

Thanks so much. I knew there was a website that gave that information, but I couldn’t find it.

Looks like the Bliss will be at the following docks:

    Ketchikan- Berth 3

    Juneau- AJ Dock

    Skagway- RRA Dock

Ketchikan and Skagway are good locations, IMO. I wish we weren’t at the AJ in Juneau, but it’s a short day there.

    Thanks to everyone who responded.

  6. I did Norway for summer solstice-end of June / beginning of July. I mostly wore a hooded sweatshirt. We had a couple warm days in the low 60’s. Honnigsvag was crazy windy and that made it cold. I wore a packable down jacket, hat and gloves. Most people didn’t stay outside because it was so cold. My biggest recommendation is to bring good rain gear. We had a couple very rainy days. It was beautiful overall.

  7. Just a guess, but maybe the earlier ones are more popular and close to full. I did a Misty Fjord afternoon cruise from A HAL ship and it was about 1/3 full. It was great because there was no problem getting rail space on either side. It was a ship excursion through Allen. It was one of my better excursions.

  8. I am planning a cruise to Hawaii with my family in April 2019. I've spent the last week trying to decide between Ruby or Grand- they both sail that month. There will be 3 of us sharing a cabin, so we'll need to get a mini suite. So far, it seems like the two ships are nearly identical.. and just a few hundred $ difference. So it's nearly a coin toss. To any of you who have traveled both, if you had to pick between them, which would you go for?

One thing of note that might make a big difference in cost: We will be flying in the day before and getting a hotel. I know one leaves from Los Angeles and the other from San Francisco. Airfare seems to be fairly close in cost, but what about hotel accommodations? Are hotels in SF significantly higher than LA, or are they also similar?

Ruby without a second thought. The Grand has a lot of problems. It’s probably been refurbished since I’ve been on it (2014, I think), I don’t think they can fix the problems with the leaking pipes. My mini suite cabin was in terrible condition: torn and stained upholstery on the couch, broken and hanging cabinet doors, balcony door latch broken, etc. I walked in the bathroom and the tiles from the floor were loose and stuck to the bottom of my feet. I could go on. I love Princess and sail with them every year. I’ve been sailing with them for 30 years. The only way I’d go on the Grand is if they gave it to me for free. Even with that, I’d have second thoughts.

  9. What is the procedure for the transfers NCL offers to LGA? We used them in Seattle & it was easy & flawless. We all met at a centralized location at the pier then boarded the bus for transport to SEA. Is this how it works in NYC?

Oops. I misread your question. After the cruise, the transfer people met in a designated location on the ship. They took us all down to the terminal together. From there, we were directed to collect luggage, go through customs (long line) and then out the door to find the same 10 passenger van. NCL people on the ground directed me to the van location. It was easy, too.

I used it last December. I flew in the night before and stayed at an airport hotel. In the morning, the hotel shuttle dropped me at baggage claim. I had to walk around a bit, but eventually found a women with a clipboard. The transportation was a 10 passenger van, not a bus. A small group congregated and she sent people in the van on a first come first serve basis as long as your group would fit. If you have a large group or are a single you might have to wait for the next shuttle. Hope this helps. It was easy.

  11. I'm booked on the Maasdam pre-dry dock and am a bit concerned after reading the Norwegian Sun story. I've read many reports about pre and post dry dock problems on many cruise lines. I'm happy to hear that there aren't a lot of HAL stories. I worry because my last two HAL cruises had significant problems. I'm starting to wonder if I should cancel. I'm looking forward to this repositioning cruise, but I'm a little worried.

  12. I’ve been on two ships with lanai cabins and you could see into the cabins at night on both. I walk outside in the evening weather permitting. I just booked a lanai cabin on the Maasdam for later this year. It’s my first time in a lanai and I’m looking forward to it.
