  1. Just chatted with Cesar! We are going to book for our November cruise, but I was interested in the culinary experience in addition to the segway tour. Did anyone in your group do that?

No one in our group did that. We had limited time so we all had to get back to the ship. It is a wonderful tour and Cesar is great.

Are you going to use transporation through Cesar?

  2. We just returned from our Panama Canal cruise. We were not sure what tour to do in Columbia. We went back and forth on this. We decided to do the Segway tour with Cesar. Let me tell you, it was the best time of the whole cruise. Cesar arranaged for our pick up at the port, and the taxi was there when they said they would be there. There was 8 of us total. We saw more in the hour and half then most tours saw in 5 hours. The nice part about the segways is that they can go down the narrow streets. If you are worried about learing how to use a segway, it is easy. If I can do it, you can do it. Cesar speaks perfect english and is a great tour guide. He showed us so much in the 90 minute tour.

Everyone in the tour said how much fun it was and it was one of the best tours of the whole cruise. If you are thinking about doing this tour, do not hesitate, it is a blast.

  3. Actually the route changed a bit. We were there a couple weeks ago. The price went up too. But the driver will still take the two for one coupons you can print on the web site. ;) The new route goes all the way to the hospital campus. It stops at Harbor Shops on the way back towards the beach.

Where did you get the coupon from? I know I have seen them before but can't locate it now. Thanks.

  4. I am staying at the Hyatt Place 17th St Convention Center one night pre cruise. Could anyone tell me if there is a Cheesecake Factory near the hotel and if the hotel shuttle could take me there?

There is one on Las Olas. Not sure about the hotel shuttle but you could take the trolly. We walked it one time but it is a long walk.

  5. A great way to get to the beach is to take the Sun Trolley. Check their website for the schedule and current pricing ($1/ride/pp as of today). There is a regular stop at Harbor Shops or you can wave them down.

    Sharon,

I have looked at the website for the sun trolley and just wondering how you know where it takes you once it stops in front of hte Embassy Suites? I will want to go to the beach one day and then to the Las Olas one day. I wasn't sure how you determine where it is going. Any information you can give me would be great. I thought we could just take a taxi but this would be a lot less expensive and I think more fun than a taxi. Thanks again,

  6. Great review. Thank you for sharing. We leave in three weeks from tomorrow. Can't wait. I am so ready for this cruise and to get out of this cold. They are calling for more snow again this week. I feel like winter will never end. This has been one of the coldest winter's I can ever remember in Maryland. Just got our electric bill and thought I would pass out LOL.

Thank you again for taking the time to post this. I really enjoyed it.

  7. We were on the sailing after yours, with the itinerary in reverse order (and Ocho Rios replacing Grand Cayman). I will post a review in a few days, once I catch up on the other aspects of life that went undone for two weeks!

We did not notice the carpet stains you mention (either they were cleaned in the meantime, or there is a benefit to aging eyesight!). The only real sign of age was that our balcony rail needed varnish (only ours - the ones on either side looked much better, and the Promenade Deck railing was refinished during our cruise) and the metal bits on our balcony showed a lot of rust. But the Panama Canal itinerary takes a toll on a ship: the crew was repainting the hull just above the waterline at every port on our cruise and had just finished when we got to the canal and it emerged all scratched up again!

We had better luck with the food -- DW and I both agree that it was the best of any cruise so far. We had a free ticket to Sabatini's on the first night, but after that had no interest in the speciality restaurants because the MDR food was so good. The pizza was also good [high praise from a New Yorker!], and DW loved the brats at The Bar & Grill on deck 15. The head chef was new for our cruise, so maybe he had an immediate positive impact.

There was no crowding for us -- maybe our diurnal schedule is enough off-kilter that everybody else was otherwise occupied. We had anytime dining and never had to wait for a table. And we have found Coral one of the easiest ships to navigate (our cabin was right near the midship elevators/stairs, so we were able to get to most places on the first try).

We also found that Cartagena exceeded expectations. I set up a private tour for a Roll Call group with Lee Miles, who is a joy to work with. We went back and forth via email to develop an itinerary that included everything I wanted to see with reasonable time estimates, and then he met us at the pier to introduce the local guide who did our tour. We had 16 people, and the total cost was $70 per person including all admission fees and bottled water.

For those who are reading this review in preparation for their upcoming partial Panama Canal cruise: you will have a great time!

I would love to see your review. I was going to post a message to you. You were originally set to sail on the same cruise with us, March 4th but you changed to January. Looking forward to your review as well.

  8. I am exicted to hear that they have towel animals. I can't wait to see and hear about them. I am very sad that your review is coming to an end. I have enjoyed it very much and look forward to it everyday. Can't you just keep it going a few more weeks ? LOL.

I want to thank you for all the time and effort you have put into the review. I has been wonderful. If you have any other pictures of around the ship I would love to see them.

Thank you again - we sail in a month from tomrrow - YEAH!!!!

  9. If you're staying at Embassy Suites and want seafood, my suggestion would be to try Southport Raw Bar. They have GREAT food (not just raw selections) and it's only about a 5 minute walk from the hotel. It doesn't look like much from the street but ask for an outside table next to the water. You won't be disappointed. My wife and I were just there a few months ago and we love it.

Sounds great. Thanks so much. We will have to try that. I love to sit outside as well -

  10. I have got to tell you that I love your review for more than one reason. We will be going on the Coral in about a month and I love seeing what you have to say and the pictures are out of this world. WOW - some of the best I have ever seen. But, more so, you sound just like my dad. If my dad were to write a review it would be almost the same. Trust me when I say that is the biggest compliment I could give anyone. The other day your post your said you would post more after supper. My dad is the only one I know that says supper instead of dinner. Earlier today talking about not asking your wife to many times, sounds just like my dad. My dad loved to travel and he loved the Panama Canal when he traveled there as well. I get very excited when I see you have posted more information. Thank you for putting a huge smile on my face.

  11. Hello, we will be arriving in FLL 3 days ahead of our sailing on the Oasis. As we are travelling with children, we would like to have all of our clothes washed before we sail. I know that Embassy suites has laundry facility. Just wondering if anyone has used them? Do they get busy? Did you bring laundry detergent or can we buy there? Thanks!

I am glad you are askign this - I wanted to know the same thing -

  12. Canal day is a whole separate thing, with champagne, binoculars on loan, food nearby etc. That said, you will want to roam the ship, but non-crowded railings can be a plus.

Yes I heard it was on canal day but I think you are right about roaming around. Thanks. So looking forward to it. Right about now to get out of this cold anything would sound good :)
