We are booked on Vista for 03/28/20 and are undecided if we want to cancel yet or not.  We are all healthy but don't like the idea of being quarantined for 2 additional weeks or missing ports.  In addition, my husband brought up the concern of comedians canceling due to virus concerns.  Has anyone heard of comedians, musicians, etc.  canceling due to this?  Thanks!

No have not heard of any of those entertainment cancellations happening.

Hello, I've searched on this site and have tried to call Carnival (they are experience phone issues).   Can someone tell me, if you have an adult (grandma) and a 10 year old child sharing a cabin, can grandma purchase the drink package or does there have to be 2 adults in the cabin in order to purchase?   Thanks for all responses.

All pax over 21 must purchase. If that is one person, that is one person.

My husband and I are trying to decide whether or not we need to cancel our cruise that departs on March 22nd, and would like the facts about how much the cruise industry is being affected by the Coronavirus. We are not worried at all about getting sick, but we are concerned about missing our ports of call or being quarantined for 14 days. It seems as though the media is exaggerating the situation. So, does anyone have hard facts to help me make an educated decision about cruising next week? How many ships have been quarantined? How many ports have not allowed cruises to dock? Are their any ports that have temporarily closed to cruises out of America? If our itinerary is changed, when will we be notified? For those who are cruising now or who cruised last week, was your trip impacted? If so,  how? Thank you so much for any help you can provide. I really don’t want to cancel our trip!

It would be best to check with your personal physician about what may be medical facts. Opinions on this forum are all over the place and you will find inaccurate info here just as much as in the media.

I believe that 3 Princess ships have been quarantined total, plus one Carnival ship had an extra day waiting for testing results and embarkation for new passengers was delayed a day. The percentage is low, but the situation may rapidly change. Ports have declined ships on a case by case basis, and sometimes without notice, so that is fluid also.

    Hi everyone

Trying to cancel my Carnival Pride cruise for this Sunday but it's hard to get through phone lines.

It says to go on the Carnival website but I can't seem to find the link to cancel.

Can someone please post a  direct website link?

Someone on another thread said it is embedded in the fine print of the letter you would have received.

I try to use my logic. I don't recall this reaction with the Swine Flu which WAS more deadly and was actually called a pandemic. Unless the governments aren't telling us something, the reaction to this virus seems way out of proportion to all the other virus and flu's we've seen.  I take a step back. There are over a billion people in China, and 80,000 were infected, 3000 died. There are over 350 million in the US, and we are looking at 14 deaths and 500 infections. Every life matters, but those numbers are minor.

Even the percentages of people on the cruise ships that got infected were small. It all seems much ado about nothing, TO THIS POINT. But we all handle things our own way and media driven fear doesn't do any one any good.

Probably of most concern is that although the flu is very dangerous for the elderly and those with underlying health conditions, this virus seems to be even more so for that population.  Plus, when trying to calculate the numbers, not everyone with the flu gets a case severe enough to be tested or treated either. So that is the same on both accounts. And, there is a flu vaccine which does sometimes offer some protection if it is flu. No, it's not perfect, but it is something.

For COVID-19, some people are being reported with no symptoms and then in just hours (sometimes less) are very severely sick.

This is also a first because of the abundance of real time social media discussion (like here! ha!).

Also, it has a thus far pretty unidentifiable incubation period.

Over 12,000 people died from the flu in the last quarter of 2019. Why no Media coverage? Why no Panic? We all know what this is about but I am not going to get Political. We can politely agree to disagree 🙂

There is not one thing political about my posts. So disagree all you want, but please don't try to diminish anything I am saying with a red herring of being political.

You're right, the FLU is much more dangerous!

Nobody knows this. In fact, all signs point to the fact that COVID-19 is much more communicable, and that the mortality rate is much higher for COVID-19 than the flu. Mostly because of the population it affects, but still.

Now, if you were to say the flu is more widespread right now, and chances are higher for the average person to get the flu right now, then that would be correct.

You realize there is much more to this than just people dying.
Entire cities are being shut down. When was the last time the flu did that?
quarantines. States of emergency being called.

I am not panicked. But you can’t say this is just the flu.

Exactly. And, for goodness sakes, those people calling it a flu, please stop. They are totally different viruses. It is NOT a flu.

Luckily I purchased the 'Cancel Anytime' insurance from Allianz when I booked. Gave them a call yesterday, and they confirmed I can cancel for any reason, anytime before the trip for full refund.

I'm hoping it won't come to that. My travel was just for fun/vacation so it's not too bad if I need to reschedule. But yes, anyone at my place of employment who is currently abroad or travels internationally will have to face a mandatory 14 day self quarantine at home. So I imagine there will be people who happened to leave a week or two ago that may not be able to return to work. And for those who left the US and are not citizen (only visa or greencard holders), it's possible they won't be allowed back in the US if they have visited a high risk country.  But... of course, this virus could run it's course and be over within a few weeks to a month. So it's hard to really predict what will happen. People are just taking precautions to contain anyone who is sick.

That is awful for those who didn't know before they left or couldn't cancel.

Where did you see the 200 obc for carnival? Anybody have more info on how to claim it or if they just apply it automatically?  We have a cruise booked in July.. booked through costco travel. Looked online but havent found anything about this yet.

It's been all over this forum today. Not at all hard to find. It's not necessarily $200, but based on length.

I saw it also on I think Yahoo News, so I am not sure how it could be missed, but they aren't offering it for cruises that far out and you would get an email.

Well as of today (3/6) my place of employment (a medical facility) has banned all international travel and domestic travel for all employees unless approved by the office of the President until further notice.

Shoot... I am really hoping I will make it on my 4/9 sailing...

Wow. You have until the end of the month to rebook for an FCC, right?

This is our first time on the Horizon. In fact, our first time on a Vista class. We weren’t sure how we’d feel about this size ship, but wanted to experience it for ourselves. When it’s all said & done, at least we’ll know...and knowing is half the battle (obscure 80’s cartoon reference for those who caught that 😉).

    A real American hero!! 🙂

I am booked for the New England Canada cruise on the Radiance in September.  When I cruised on the Dream a few years ago, the Cucina del Capitano restaurant was free for lunch, but charged for dinner.  Will it be the same on the Radiance?

I would say so. It is that way on all ships that have it so far. I have not heard anything about any changes coming.

I called this morning.  The call got through, but I waited for 2 hours 40 minutes to talk to someone.  Thank goodness for hands free phones.  The price for my cruise had not been reduced any from when I booked.  It was actually $200 per person higher.

I'm confused. You waited over 2.5 hours on the phone for info that is on line? Or am I missing something...
