A good reason to require vaccinations, masks, etc. The first cruises have to be in a bubble until more experience suggests otherwise. That includes the ability of Americans to follow simple instructions. Those who can't need to look elsewhere for vacations

And you just stated the biggest problem, which is the ability of Americans to follow simple instructions.

No, it means wearing one mask over another. For those wearing paper surgical masks that don't provide a seal around your face, the recommendation is to place a 2-3 layer cloth mask over it to seal and provide additional layers of protection.

It is actually not bad at all. We have vacationed 6 times to hot and tropical locations including 10+ hours of air travel. We use N95 masks exclusively (5 layer masks sealing around the face with around-the-head elastic). They are actually fine in all weather conditions. And are actually better than ear loops on long flights.

It is quite clear that it means one mask with two or more layers.

Totally disagree with this statement. Florida has done very well in relation to the rest of the nation. Deaths have remained stable and well below the deaths from weeks earlier. And this is despite cases rising to over 5k daily and the state being wide open.

Do more research. DeSantis is having numbers fudged. Positivity rate is going up, and we had close to 10,000 new cases on Saturday.

As it should be , as I've said before the cruise lines need to have all their ducks in a row, the i's dotted and the t's crossed. Not only with the CDC but with Port Authorities and the local government agencies including the state governor.

If i remember correctly Fla. governor was one of the last ones to slow/shut things down in that state.

You remember correctly, and our shutdown was quite a joke. There were so many exceptions, it didn't really matter that much. And we are the first to pretty much go "back to normal". And no, things are not okay in Florida.

No worries though, DeSantis wants cruising to start again. Not because he thinks it's safe, but because he wants the dollars in the state. He wants the tourist dollars, and he wants port workers back to work.

It's weekend reporting. I see it on every single graph at every single level (county, state, country, world). New cases and deaths are consistently under-reported on weekends. Which is why on my own graphs that I keep (I love spreadsheets!), I always display the 7 day average as well and pay much more attention to that than the daily peaks and valleys.

So I'm not the only one who loves spreadsheets, and has COVID spreadsheets? Love it!!😃

I've also been tracking the number of new cases in age groups 0-24 in Florida, and there has been a definite increase since our governor ordered brick and mortar schools open.

Zaandam is the blue arrow at the top of this image.  MarineTraffic said 17.7 knots, destination US PEF.

Rotterdam was still in transit here just leaving the last of the Agua Clara locks. Can't see her when zoomed this far out but she's in that multicolored bubble snake at the bottom of the image.

ETA: Zaandam is 19.6 knots now.

I just checked, and it says destination for Zaandam is San Antonio. Can anyone confirm?

Most of the other cruise lines new policy went into effect on March 6, so those sailing this weekend were covered.

Cruise Critic needs an angry button. Other cruise lines covered this weekend, why not NCL?

I think the vast majority of people wanting to cancel their bookings are far more afraid of being quarantined than they are of getting sick. Not everyone can afford to be away from home/work for 2-4 weeks longer than planned.

You would be correct. We leave tomorrow. We wanted to cancel. Since we are not willing to lose so much money, we accept the risk.

  9. Most, if not all, of the other cruise lines are allowing passengers that are booked this weekend to cancel for a 100% cruise credit. NCL is not. They really did drop the ball on this one. The cruise lines I checked are Royal Caribbean, Carnival, and Princess.

The exact reason why you should have brought trip insurance! Would you be saying NCL is heartless if you had a death in the family and NCL would not refund you? Bottom line is you rolled the dice. That being said there is no reason not to cruise. You cannot live life in a bubble....

I already stated most trip insurances DO NOT cover this situation, including "cancel for no reason" insurance. Most have a clause excluding epidemics and pandemics.

Same here, I simply would've liked to rebook. Yet the NCL cheerleaders on here will jump all over us as though we're asking for something crazy. Are you on the bliss?

No, we're on the Pearl. Ignore the cheerleaders. They aren't in our situation, and therefore, don't understand our concerns.

Our biggest concern is being quarantined. We also are in the higher risk category, age-wise, and minor health concerns.

After waiting on the phone for over an hour (understandably, given the circumstances), I was told there is nothing that can be done for my March 8th sailing. For those of you who are applauding NCL for "stepping up" with their March 10th FCC policy, how about stop and think how you would feel if you were one of the thousands of us who leave before then. I have one of two options, lose thousands of dollars, or option #2 take the risk and go on the cruise anyway. Hey NCL, is my family less important than the one that sets sail 48 hours after me? Or are those of us sailing on March 8th somehow magically immune to the coronavirus? The entire industry is actually doing the right thing except for Norwegian. I'm sure I'm not the only one who will never sail with them again if they don't do the right thing here. NCL has done a lot of nickel and diming in the past few years that has left a bad taste in our mouths, but this is really stooping to a whole new level. With the imminent battle facing the cruise industry, can they really afford to alienate loyal customers.

We feel your pain. We leave tomorrow, also. We would have rebooked if we had been given that option.

I hear you loud and clear.  We sail on march 8th also.  My husband wants to cancel.  I figure even if mike pence steps in on Saturday, want be for Sunday sailings. Hope NCL doesn’t live to regret the few days they allowed people to reluctantly travel.

We sail tomorrow, also. We have talked about cancelling, but only if we get our money back, whether a full refund or FCC. Sounds like we won't, so, yeah, I also hope NCL doesn't live to regret this.

We are already talking about cancelling our Dec. South America cruise with them, because of the way this is being handled.

Why are only Princess cruises being caught in the "you can't dock here" situation? First the Diamond, now the Grand?  Not Celebrity, not HAL, not RC... etc.

Are there other ships in the same situation, but our news media aren't telling us?

Or is it Princess's itineraries being different in some way?

Or should my question be, "why are the Princess pax being identified as having C-virus and not the other cruise line pax"?  I know about the Westerdarm, and maybe another one(?) in Feb, but now Princess is in this situation again.

What is happening with Princess that is different....?

Or is it the media not reporting any others, only Princess?

    Just curious....

There's been several cruise lines that have been denied. MSC, Carnival, Holland America, Costa, Fred Olson, just to name a few.
