  1. What I really want to know is, did you (or your wife, or anyone else you know) shop for emeralds in Cartagena, and if so, how are the prices?? I keep telling my DH we need to do this...we may never go back to Colombia!:)

And I really can't wait to hear your comparison of NCL and Carnival!! Especially your opinion of MDR...not that it really matters, just curious!

  2. Hi. I am completely a newbie in Florida that will need to go from the airport to the port on our cruise ship out of Port of Miami.

We aren't bringing any checked luggage so we have to bring our one bottle wine per Carnival guest by buying it somewhere from the airport to the port.

Is there a place I can buy cheap wine around 1:30 PM? Does Walmart near the airport sell wine? Any tips, thanks.

Walmart does sell wine in Florida, as does Target, and grocery stores.

  3. Don't be late because that's the day we're leaving that same day...heading first to Cartegena, Columbia....11 day cruise!

Make sure you come back and tell us how the cruise was...we're doing the same one (first NCL cruise) in December! Thanks!

  4. For us it is worth the extra money. The thing is, and this is just a personal preference, we do not like crowds and à lot of noise. We are not really into pool side games and stuff like that. So the haven for us is à definate yes. Also, the haven restaurant is great, you get the little perks like priority seating for the shows and we never ever had to search for a lounger by the pool. No chair hogs either. You really do get treated like royalty

It sounds good to me! Thanks for replying, and thanks for the review!

  5. I'm curious, OP, why (other than the crowded and noisy pool deck) did you think it would have been a cruise from hell if you hadn't been in the Haven? Reason I'm asking, is my husband and I would like to try Epic or Breakaway, but I'm afraid we wouldn't like it either if not in the Haven. One of the things we find attractive is the Haven restaurant, and would probably eat most meals there, or at Cagney's.

I guess what I'm really asking is, help me convince my husband it is worth the extra cost of the Haven!!!:D

  6. Most of the CD's we've sailed with have been forgettable....except for Karl with a K, and Butch, who we absolutely love! They are both funny, and really put themselves out there. We also remember Jen, but not in a good way. We felt she wasn't very visible on our cruise, and kind of "blah". Maybe she was just having a bad week, because I have heard good things about her!

  7. Sometimes DH and I go all out...tux for him, formal dress for me (only because we have the stuff, and not much chance to wear it otherwise!), more often than not, long sleeve dress shirt for him, nice dress or skirt, or even pantsuit, for me. Pretty much anything goes anymore! Hope you write a review on the Freedom, we're going on her in late April!

  8. Our very first cruise, Carnival Elation.....yes, we were a bit naive! We wanted to play mini golf on a day at sea, and if memory serves correctly, the course was at the front of the ship. We didn't realize winds were about 60 mph up there, so we get our clubs, etc. and head up. (Kinda surprised staff was even letting people up there!) Of course, as soon as the wind hit, we realized mini golf was not happening, but that's not the good part!

I'm very petite, so the high winds kind of freaked me out. I'm flat against a wall, screaming "I'm gonna blow off the ship!", when a strong gust comes along. I'm wearing a sundress, with no straps. Yep, the wind yanked my dress to my ankles!
