  1. The Observation Lounge was one of our favorite places...during the day and we liked the band at night. I don't know if they are still playing, but the band we liked was Brilliant Band. Also, starting around 5 pm, (I think), the Garden Cafe makes crepes which were delicious! They also serve scooped ice cream, and often had some type of cobbler.

We LOVED the Sun! Yes, some of the deck layouts were a bit strange, but we quickly got used to it!

  2. As someone else stated, nothing is within walking distance. However, there are several excellent seafood restaurants close by. Jetty Park is also very close....it's the jetty/beach you would see when coming into the port on the left hand side...nice beach, but there is a small charge to enter the area. Canaveral National Seashore is to the north, again, nice beaches. An airboat ride is always fun, Brevard Zoo is about 30-40 min. away, and is nice....kind of small, but nice. Let's see....Cocoa Village is quaint, has nice shops/restaurants, and of course, Ron Jon's is just down the road in Cocoa Beach...always a popular tourist destination! Any of these places are easy to get to, if you want to rent a car for the day (probably the most inexpensive way to get around).

Orlando is about 45 min. from the port, and has LOTS to do!

  3. I am trying to decide on rebooking the Breeze vs trying NCL and the Epic for the first time. What major things are different? Anything I need to know that would make me not pick NCL? I am scared to try a new line. I have 3 cruises under my belt with Carnival. We are 28 years old.. The most we drink year round is on vacation. I like Carnivals Cheers Program. I also like that the Epic cruise March 9th is 1 day longer. I don't like that the website tries to book me in a guarantee. Their website is hard to understand.. maybe because I've never used it? Help me decide!!!! :D

We just tried NCL in December, after mainly sailing with Carnival...LOVED it!! NCL does a lot of little things, that in the long run, makes a big difference. Some things that might help you decide: the shows on NCL Sun BLEW away anything Carnival has to offer! The Sun did not have a comedy club, like Carnival's Punchliner...the main theater had a comedian one night (he was okay), and I believe he may have done an adult show in one of the lounges later at night. All the other shows we went to were excellent!

Food is very subjective, but IMO, Carnival's MDR food is better than NCL overall. We ate in all of the specialty restaurants on the Sun, and they were outstanding! Moderno was my favorite. The buffet, for the most part, was good (we really didn't eat there very often, just for breakfast), but NCL has a crepe station that was to die for!

We have already booked another NCL cruise, and I know we will continue to sail with them...and we will continue to sail with Carnival...and we are always open to trying other lines!

  4. I really think it varies from cruise to cruise...for example, we're sailing on Carnival Glory in April...that roll call has 11 people so far. Our Disney cruise in August doesn't have a roll call, and NCL Pearl in December is already up to 48 people! You just never know! We just did NCL Sun this past December, and had a GREAT group of people...I think around 75 showed up for the meet and greet!

  5. We were on the 1/19 sailing of the Jewel out of New Orleans for our first NCL cruise and it was wonderful! The ship is gorgeous and immaculate, the crew is exceptional, our every need was taken care of promptly and cheerfully, food was good, drinks were good - overall it was a very positive and fun experience. We will definitely be sailing with NCL again, hopefully on the beautiful Jewel!

We took our first NCL cruise in December on the Sun...LOVE that ship! We also were very impressed, so much so, we've already booked a cruise on the Pearl! Glad you enjoyed it!

  6. My DH and I treated my sister to a cruise last year....the three of us stayed in one of the porthole cabins (priced as an interior) on the Freedom. Big sis slept on the sofa bed, she LOVED it!! It was a bit cramped, but we made it work. We also only used the room to sleep and shower.

  7. First of all, just know that my heart goes out to the family that just lost their son...my thoughts and prayers are with you.

With that said, parents need to take responsibility for their children...period. I really don't understand why one would go on a "family" vacation, then let their young children run loose. If going to the casino/sitting at a bar/couples time is what is important to you on a cruise, then shouldn't you leave your children at home? Or in the care of another responsible, adult family member? Why take a family vacation if you are not going to spend quality time as a family?

I understand children may want to spend some time with other children....that is what Camp Carnival is for, but young ones should not be running around a ship by themselves. Would you let your child run around your city/town by themselves?

    Okay, off my soapbox...flame away!

  8. Was on the breeze with you. Agree with the bottleneck comments.

But your comment on the CD was dead on. I am really shocked that he is the CD on Carnivals "flagship". He was annoying and even a bit arrogant from what I could tell. I try not judge people without knowing them, but he took the cake for the most annoying CD I have sailed with.

Found this thread do to looking at booking the Breakaway to Bermuda.

Pete is not the regular CD for the Breeze...Butch Begovich is, and most people think he is awesome! VERY high energy, and man, he can dance! Unfortunately, for your sailing, Butch must have been off.

  9. The finale

In conclusion I have mixed feelings about the Breeze; the ship is huge and I didn't get to experience everything simply because I was sick. I need to give her another chance but I'm not sure when I'll have the opportunity.

My cabin was on deck 1 and I can't do it again. Once the meds no longer had me doped' date=' I could hear what I thought were waves crashing against the ship and it sounded like chairs or something heavy was sliding around outside. The sound was creepy and freaked me out, but to my surprise I fell asleep. My mom however didn't have peaceful rest on the ship; she said it sounded like that every night.

I also noticed a sewage smell in one area on deck 1. I must admit my nose is keen and I smell just about everything, but I don't think my mom smelled it.

Guy's Burger Joint was ok. The Blue Iguana breakfast tacos were awesome. I'm no longer eating at the Mongolian Wok on any ship and I must try the Red Frog Pub.

The shows were horrible, but I liked the Hasbro game. My mom didn't like Breeze at all and never wants to sail her again. She said the shows sucked and it felt unorganized on the ship. I'm wondering if she really felt that way because we sailed during Halloween.[/quote']

Great review! We were on Breeze her first season out of Miami, she is my least favorite Carnival ship. Love the Dream, however! I must say, though, Red Frog Pub has some of the best food ever! And the beer is good, too!

  10. We were on the 11-day Southern Caribbean that got back on Jan 12th. We loved every part of our cruise. We were in a mini suite and it was everything that is hyped up to be. There was a tire that was stuck in the thruster that they had divers trying to get out. We had a couple of hours of extended time at the ports. I think they got part of it out.

I can't believe that tire is still there! We picked it up in Aruba on our sailing, December 11!!!

  11. Not sure we are "loyal" to any cruise line, but Carnival does give us a good cruise, for the best price, most of the time. NCL does too! Anyway, here are the reasons we choose Carnival:

    1. price

    2. convenience (they offer the best variety out of Florida year-round)

    3. they handled a very difficult situation very well, for us. For that, we will always have a "soft spot" for Carnival.

  12. The lists of highly talented popular artists are:

    • Chicago

    • Daughtry

    • Foreigner

    • Gavin DeGraw

    • Jennifer Hudson

    • Jewel

    • Kansas

    • Lady Antebellum

    • LeAnn Rimes

    • Martina McBride

    • Olivia Newton-John

    • REO Speedwagon

    • STYX

    • Trace Adkins

I'd pay to see about half of them. The rest? Not my cup of tea. But still - it might be fun.

I've already seen 4 of them...would like to see 3 more listed. And it really isn't a bad price!

  13. Hoping the new announcement this week is they realize the shows leave a lot to be desired and will be eliminated.

I know the Dream has the old style shows.

Will get to sea playlist in two weeks on Glory and cant wait to see how wonderful it is.

Playlist Production shows were okay, the problem is, they are the same across the fleet, so if one sails Carnival a lot, after a couple sailings, you've seen all the shows. And I really don't care to watch Hasbro again, once was enough.

  14. We had reserved and prepaid with premierparkingusa dot com, for our Dec.11 cruise. When we got there, we were told the lot was full, and directed elsewhere. We were given a # to call for our refund, which we promptly did that day....still waiting for our refund! (I am also disputing the charge with credit card company at this point!). I talked with quite a few other people on the cruise that had the same problem.

We ended up using safecruiseparking dot com, which was cheaper, with no problems.

  15. I agree with you to a point. Im starting to get into a lull with the same thing with carnival. the only problem is im afraid that I will book another line for double what I would have paid for carnival and constantly be comparing it with my previous carnival cruises that I have had a blast on every one.

Shop around...NCL, MSC, and sometimes RCCL compare to or are cheaper than Carnival! As far as comparing another cruise line to Carnival, we just went with the mindset that we KNEW it would be different, and really enjoyed the new experience. Of course we did some comparison, but for the most part, NCL blew Carnival away....in a lot of little ways. That said, Carnival's MDR food was much better!

  16. Interesting post.

We have done over 20 Carnival cruises and feeling bored with entertainment.

Doing our first Princess in a few months and wonder how we will like it. The people on the roll call are die hard Princess fans and do talk it up a lot.

I'm with you...we are SO bored with Carnival's entertainment, with the exception of the comedy club (when we can get a seat!). We just did an NCL cruise, and the shows were outstanding, for the most part!

The problem with Carnival is once you've done 2 or 3 of the ships, they start looking and feeling the same. Same shows, pretty much same layout, same sea day activities, and on and on. And don't get me wrong, we are still sailing with Carnival (gotta have warm chocolate melting cake and Guy's burgers!!), but we also are sailing with other lines.

We sailed Princess several years ago, and liked it just fine! Princess isn't quite as laid back as Carnival or NCL, but we had a great cruise!!
