Does every ship do this for the Beach House. We cancelled our second visit as the Caribbean menu they had was too spicy for me but if they do this on every ship it will be great. (Yes I know it was the Caribbean, but it was a bit 'overkill' on a theme of chilli, chilli and, you guessed it, chilli! I'd have killed for a green bean !!!)

Is it one of those 'hidden events' that you have to know about to ask about? If you get me

When it first started the Beach House was Italian (and free!) on Azura and Ventura. How we miss it!

  2. Afternoon all. Had a good day yesterday, had our grandson for a couple of hours yesterday morning then visited Mum after lunch.

Today we went up Bluewater this morning but couldn’t get much that I wanted so were home by 1-30pm.

John got a new dress shirt though.

I have been out for my walk and on the way back down our road the 6 year old twins who live a few houses up stopped me to ask "Are you OK because we haven't seen you for nearly a week and mum said that we can't come to knock on your door and pester you because she has seen you when we were at school but we have been told be school that we have to look out for old people when it is cold".  I wonder how old they think I am ?

    Aww bless them!

  4. Morning all, sunny this morning after a really nasty day yesterday, the wind was horrendous, it was bitter when I walked home from work.

@Peanut006 so pleased your mum is much better, hope she continues to improve.

In a moment of madness I agreed to cover the late shift tomorrow (1-6) instead of my normal 8-1. I shall enjoy a bit of a lie in but it mucks up visiting mum tomorrow so we’re going today. On Thursday it’s my normal late day but I work from home then, tomorrow I have to go in the office.

Have you tried Premier Inn Sue?We use them all the time and the £10 buffet breakfast will last you all day, lol.Read today they are 2nd in a poll of best hotel chains.Hope they're reading this I want a cheque in the post.😉

l’ve used Premier Inn many times. I’ve had an issue last couple of times we’ve used them, the air conditioning has been so fierce it put me off! I was in one in Poole in 2022 in June shivering! It was really annoying me blowing over my face while I was trying to sleep.

    Day 50 - Wednesday 21st February - Sea Day

Well here we are. Day 50. That’s more than double the length of time that we have ever been on a cruise before and we still haven’t murdered each other 😂

I had a much better nights sleep without the pressure of an early start and even managed to get a couple of loads of washing in the laundrette before we went to breakfast. Breakfast was a little hurried as I wanted to get both loads out of the washing machine and into the tumble driers in time to attend the first talk of our new guest lecturer, Paul Stickler at 10am. I got my wife in situ in the theatre and then whizzed back to the laundrette, sorted it all out and made it back to the theatre just a minute or two after he’d started.

Well I am delighted. I really like true crime and that’s the subject of all his talks. My wife said that he had mentioned that he was on board until the end of the cruise and would give a talk each sea day, so that’s a big relief for me to have something to look forward to on the long drag home. Today’s talk was titled ‘The Porthole Murder’ about a murder on a cruise ship in 1947 that he has investigated. It was very refreshing to  hear about a case that I’d never read about and his presentation style was very good.

I did some more washing and some emails before we headed to lunch at 1pm in the Glasshouse. Having had at least half a dozen meals in there this cruise, I can say with some confidence that it is the best place to eat on Aurora. Every meal there has been superb and the service is always exemplary.

We were planning on attending the 3pm ‘Audience with the Headliners’ in the theatre, but lunch had dragged on a bit (the second large glass of Jam Shed Shiraz was to blame) so we returned to our cabin for a rest and a read and ended up remaining there until dinner. The 10pm show was the act Duo Esencias with their performance called ‘The Dream’. We saw this on Britannia and didn’t feel the need to see it a second time. Tomorrow Georgetown, Grand Cayman, which is a tender port.

We saw Paul Stickler on Britannia in 2017 and he’s brilliant! What I want from a guest speaker. He also did the Port Hole murder. There was a second talk on the next sea day then we had a missed port (Guernsey!) and he did another talk on the extra sea day. I got the impression he would have done one every day if he could!

A cold but sunny morning, currently 3C, most of early morning frost has gone.

Have been watching the Test Match this morning with 20 year old England spinner Shoab Bashir confusing the Indian batters, he has 4 wickets so far and considering he only made his debut for Somerset last June he has come a long way in such a short time.

Will be booking a 4 day break in Yorkshire this morning, have found a place just outside York, ideal location for visiting the city, Castle Howard and few other places.

Ooh lovely, I’ve been looking at York but it’s quite expensive. I’ve been to Castle Howard once but it was raining hard so we didn’t see much of the gardens so would happily go again.

  8. Thanks all, I know the Home did the right thing but I was a bit grumpy they didn’t send anyone with her. She was sitting there all alone in a hospital wheelchair.

I hope I didn’t sound blasé but honestly she has done this sooooo many times! She’s tougher than she looks! One of my friends thinks she shouldn’t be falling if she is in a home, but she is very ‘naughty’ and won’t wait for anyone to help her! I’m proud she never fell once when staying with me because I followed her everywhere!

  9. Hello all, as you can see I’m catching up while not sleeping! Luckily it’s Saturday so I can go back to sleep hopefully or have an afternoon nap later!

@Megabear2 what an horrendous experience you had! Appalling service as well trying to get the plumber. Everything seems to be a trial nowadays.

@Peanut006 so pleased to hear your mum has turned a corner. I loved her saying she won’t go out every day on holiday as Wimbledon is on 😁

We had a bit of a drama Wednesday. I was at home in the afternoon after being in the office earlier and luckily John was home. I got a call from Mum’s home saying she’d had a fall and she seemed ok but had bumped her head so had called the paramedics to check her out. They, of course, decided to take her to hospital  ‘ just in case’ which meant we had to rush to A&E because no one from the Home had gone with her .

The traffic was horrendous as it was raining hard and was school picking up time! Anyway we were’only’ there for about 2 hrs and she was declared fit to go. Phew! If they’d decided to do a scan it would have been hours more so we got lucky there. I thought things were going to be easier with Mum in the home!

  10. My husband’s friend is going on his first cruise in May on Iona. He wants to know how you pay for the casino. I have no idea as we never use it.

Does it just go on your cruise card or do people use cash?

    Thanks for any help.

Hi Avril, just back from hospital now. Yesterday she was no way at all, in bed and sent us home because she didn’t want visitors. Today when I got there she was sat in a chair at the side of the bed. Drs say she can come home but there is no way she could manage at home. She has told them she doesn’t need a care package she can manage herself, in reality she can’t get across the ward to the bathroom without a nurse helping her. We have an appointment to see the Dr tomorrow afternoon. The other concern is she won’t eat, only having porridge and ice cream and is refusing any other food. I don’t know what to think really.

    Michelle

That must be such a worry for you Michelle. Sounds like this has knocked her confidence. I hope things settle down soon.

  12. Afternoon all. Was a lovely sunny day yesterday but lots and lots of rain today.

Milder down South as there’s lots of daffodils out here including a few in my front garden.

John and I went to Bluewater yesterday and had lunch out. The shopping centre was very busy when we left about 2pm.

I hope Michelle’s mum is getting stronger xx
