Hi if Discovery docks at Bayonne N.Y for her two days in New York ,have any one done excursions to the City,

have been told you can catch the ferry across the Hudson to Manhattan and do your own thing, or would

you rather do ship tours, just a thought.

Hi went into my local travel agent and ask the Manager for more information as the regards of were Discovery will be docking in N.Y. she said leave to me, next day phoned me back have spoken to various people on our cruise team and she said (port of new york) in that case it will mean Manhattan, well lets wait and see.

I would hope that as they say New York City it will hopefully be the Manhattan Terminal which would be much easier for a tourist call independent of Marella excursions. Brooklyn is still in NYC but the surrounding area  was not very nice (at least it wasn't a few years ago but may have improved?). Bayonne is in New Jersey and appears to be almost exclusively Royal Caribbean ships (including Celebrity and Azamara); handy for Newark Airport but not a lot else!

Hi yes lets hope it will be Manhatten, but i don,t think so only last week i saw the live web cam and wo and behold Mein Shiff 1 was docked in Bayonne ,same berth as Anthem use, even the front cover of there 2021 brochure is very misleading showing Discovery doing a 360 by the statue of liberty, she won,t even go up that far hey ho never mind roll on Christmas.

We docked in Manhattan a few years ago at the end of a Canada/New England itinerary with Princess.

Sailed right in at dawn, past the Statue of Liberty, and docked close to an outdoor air/sea museum.

It meant we ended our itinerary on a high instead of a low and we also had a few days to enjoy the city before flying home.

Sorry your won't have the same experience, but for anyone not yet booked, there are other cruise lines worth a look if only for comparison.

Totally agree edinburgher NCL do similar at half the price, am just waiting for a price drop from Marella, even our winter cruise and stay from Barbados next year we have jumped ship and going with Virgin and carnival.

I remember reading on here recommendations from fellow cruisers on hotels in Majorca - often booked as part of a cruise and stay.  I've tried a search on here for old posts but as they aren't using Palma as a home port, there's nothing current and I can't pull up any historical posts.  Perhaps I'm failing to find the right key words.  Forgive me for this non-cruise question, but I know many of you have done cruise and stay in Majorca with Thomson in the past - I'm looking at their holidays there as we can get local flights, so presumably many of the hotels will be those they used for cruise and stay.  I'd be really grateful if anyone can recommend any hotels in Majorca - preferably one where access to buses to Palma/other parts of the island are available.

    Hi Kruzseeka

we had a land based holiday last year, flying from So,ton with TUI using Spanish airline  (VOLOTEA) A B717

the hotel was the Alua palmanova, so easy to get to palma either by water taxi or bus and a lovely hotel by the beautiful  beach would highly recommend.

Any one on this board privy as to why Thomson/Marella are Geo-blocking the website? (For non-tech people that means for a person with a computer and hence IP address in Canada can no longer view the Marella website) 😭

We have in the past been able to view and book cruises directly with Marella on their website - but no more

From a TUI business website - there is a Canadian redirection  to 'Sunwing' - a Canadian travel company which partners with Marella. Unfortunately however, Sunwing only provides Caribbean and South America cruises.

This has been the case for about a month or so .. was hoping it would just rectify itself but no luck ... sigh .... trying to view cruises for fall of 2020 to the Canaries ...

    Hi  Rodndonna

idont know the laws in Canada would it be the drinking age in U.S. ports, as you might have seen Marella are

allinclusive  and i can,t see the barmen asking for passport,s every time some one with a north american accent goes to the bar, i think the age for U.S.is twenty one,  PS tell me off if i am wrong

I agree but it is wrong of Holiday Extras and Cheryl to give you the impression falsely that you will be booking with CPS.

With Holiday Extras you have a choice, both with independent company,s  meet and greet at the car park ( parking for cruise ships)  or park and ride with a company called Air lynx parking out side the terminal.

We usually DIY unless distance, timing, logistics or other factors make it too complicated or not possible at all.

For NYC we thought the port timings disappointing especially if they would be for a first visit to NYC.

Depending on your sailing, you either have a long first day (arrival 0700) but a short second day (departure 2pm) or you have a short first day (arrival 2pm) and only a slightly longer second day (departure 4pm)

Given the port location and the logistics, combined with fairly short times in port either on day 1 or day 2 depending on itinerary and date, you will need to do a fair amount of transport research to help you decide if you want to do a mix of DIY and shorex, or only shorex, or only DIY.

It will be interesting what excursions Marella come up with, even better if Discovery docked at Manhattan .

We have booked a 7 night cruise in an outside deluxe cabin on Marella Dream and are very excited about the prospect of visiting new places and making new friends. I am hoping someone can advise me whether I need to pre-book our cabin as I understand that the deluxe cabins on deck 9 are very noisy and wonder if they are equally as bad as my husband is a very light sleeper and we are early risers.Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated I can see 901,902,903 and 9016 have already been taken.Thank you

    Hi Molly

have cruised on Dream three times and have always had the outside plus on deck nine, it is the newer section which was added when she was stretched, the reason i found these cabin favourable it is because you go up one deck to Sirens for breakfast, down one deck for the shops reception and Medusa show lounge and straight out your cabin turn left or right and your out on the prom deck for docking , hope this is a little help, PS  i hope Pension cruiser pops up he has been on Dream many times.

It has been confirmed in media release from Royal Caribbean that INDY is not crossing to Europe in 2021.

INDY will most likely stay in PE or move to PC or Bayonne.

Marella Dream is due out for refurbishment Jan/Feb/Mar and it seems likely she'll be sticking around longer than the Celebration.

Last thing I've read from tui was several months ago stating that they had draft plans for the refit but nothing concrete - does anyone know any more?

Hi Mart your guess is as good as mine three months for a refit is a long time, unless she is under supervision from another party to come out of dock with a new hair do i don,t know, she has already been stretched, balconies to deck seven, might be to low to the water line, have had three cruise on the old girl, if it ain,t broke don,t fix it

I see  when booking online you can now select your cabin and not before time

Apologies if this is not a new thing but its the first of me noticing

Hi jim i to noticed yesterday that booking cabins on line have come into the equation of online booking, i might be old fashioned but still like sitting with the staff at my local TUI travel shop and speak to a person and not my laptop, they said they would waiver any excess and give me the price of booking on line, plus the big factor if it keeps the shop open and the girls in a job i will continue to use this way of booking my holiday, just me.

Almost undoubtedly it will drop. Normally when brochures launch they do so at brochure full price. Give it till as you say Christmas time or maybe New Year/January and prices drop. I tend to make a note of the price now and monitor it, and book when it's at its best.

I think your right Mart, have been on Discovery twice lovely little ship and will look forward on sailing on her again.

Could not agree more. We like to book late and were interested in Marella for early  December 2019. Current prices for a 14 night cruise on Explorer 2 (inside cabin) on 1st December £3167 for two people. P&O have a 14 night cruise on Azura (inside cabin) on 29th November £2198. Marella are AI  but I doubt that we would spend close to £1000 on drinks, plus we like the itinerary.

Iam ready to book a B/B for summer 20/21 from Port Canaveral does any one think there will be a price drop ,or hang on around Christmas time i always book with my local T.A just a thought.

Just curious what my fellow cruisers from the UK think of the itineraries with ports of call like Tampa, Miami and Ft Lauderdale. I’m an American who lived in Florida for many years, so I’m guessing that, most likely, I don’t see these places in the same light as vacationers coming from another country.

Sorry every body i think my lap top is playing up, Going back to Tapi question its the first time a british cruise company has put a ship in to a US  Port and i think it has come as a surprize that so many U.S. Ports have been included in the cruise,s from New york to Key west to Tampa and New orleans .
