  1. Forgive me if this has been discussed here, or if this post isn't appropriate. But...

On travel websites, travel videos, cruise discussions, as well as talking to past travelers, the thing that keeps coming up is pickpockets and crime in Rome.

Our cruise departs in Rome (ok Civitavecchia), and we planned on staying a couple days in Rome to tour at the end of it.

My question, how bad is it really? What can I do to mitigate the risk? Any tips to protect myself and family?

And a completely separate discussion, if it is so bad, why isn't local law enforcement cracking down and ending this once and for all.

  2. Okay, I accept your admonishment. I purposely used "gazillion" as a non-specific exaggeration. Not long ago, in the final months of 2017, it seemed like a clothing thread and ensuing discussion got going every other day. The problem is the Admins ended up deleting most of them as they descended into a lot of insults back and forth in some posts and I guess rather than exorcise some posts, they just killed it all. So, there ends up to be a lack of recent ones, but I have found CC Search works fairly well.

Anyway, it would be nice if some of the more common topics got "stickies" and not just the now ancient smoking thread. I think it would give folks a lot of quick answers and reduce the number of multiple discussions.

I did, however, go on to provide information and a reference point for the OP. I think it is always good to provide people more than a simple answer and give them reference points they may not be aware of or can help themselves in the future. At least the wine lovers think I am helpful.

Steelers36, it takes a big man (or woman) to do as you have done just now. All is well.

    All good...

  3. For the gazillionth time, Princess Specialty Restaurants are Smart Casual all the time. If the OP is new to Princess, you can look up the FAQ's on Princess's website and read the Clothing Recommendations (see under "What to Bring" for one location). Many threads on here have discussed clothing ad nauseum. The craziest ones are often deleted by CC Admins. As mentioned, smart casual can include jeans and not be turned away. I would not try shorts and flip flops in any DR. Think of what you would wear to a "nice" or "upscale" restaurant. It seems that sometimes shorts might fly, but lots of reports of sending passengers back to cabin to change pants.

Not having read the entire forum, I don't know if I can confirm that this was been answered a gazillion times. In fact, if it had been answered a gazillion times, I see no reason to answer it again, as a gazillion is not an actual number.

But let's be a little more realistic, and assume it has been answered 50 times (maybe 100). I thought the purpose of an internet discussion board was to ask questions. Some may want to take the time to read through and verify if their question was asked before, some may want to simply ask it and come back in an hour and read the answers. If your fingers are numb from responding to the same question "a gazillion times" I suggest you simply don't answer it.

If you've read everything there is to read on these boards over and over, I question why you still stick around.

If you can't make other guests feel welcome, or offer informative replies, why troll around insulting and harshly and rudely putting people down.

  4. You may bring as many 750 ml bottles of wine or champagne as you wish. The first bottle per passenger is free as long as you do not consume it outside your cabin; additional bottles are supposed to be each charged a $15 corkage fee upon boarding, no matter where you plan to open it.

But presuming you are asking about hard liquor (based on the Princess cellars reference) the answer is no. Or yes as long as you do not get caught.

Smuggling discussion to commence in 3...2....1....

Not looking to turn this into a smuggling discussion... :)

But on Carnival I can buy a bottle of Scotch in the fun shops.

I notice they also sell scotch here (half bottles - 375 ml). But the selection is not good at all. I am wondering if they sell full size bottles, and better selection on board.

Now as for the smuggling discussion... is it rum runners? Mouthwash bottles? Shampoo? Re-corked wine bottles? ;p

  5. We have done NCL, Royal Caribbean, and Carnival.

They usually have lots of activities for kids.

My kids don't like the "Kids clubs". They like to explore the ship, use the pools, waterparks, ping pong, chess,. mini golf, trivia, etc...

Is there enough for them to do on Princess cruises?

Anyone have kids that go to the teens clubs, do they get bored and restless there?

My kids are 14 and 16 and are quite independent.

  6. Can I buy full bottles to drink onboard? (not the duty free, I get that has to be taken off the ship at the end of the cruise).

I know there's a few available, under onboard reservations / Princess cellars on the princess website. But the selection is quite limited.

  7. I am an NCL/Disney frequenter, new to Princess, and am wondering if there is any advantage to waiting and paying for internet minutes when onboard vs doing ahead of time online? We will be in the Diamond Princess in NZ/AUS in a few weeks... Thanks!

From what I saw, you get a 20% bonus in minutes.

    i.e. pay for 100 minutes, get 120...

  8. You can request a duplicate card for each cabin that will only work the doors. Each person still must use the original for leaving and returning in ports and on board charges.

This post is correct, we been on several cruises with family and we were given a key for both of my kids cabins and could only use them on the ship. When we went off the ship we had to use o our keycard only. When you leave the ship and you have the other key they will mKe you get the right to leave.

    Awesome thanks...

  9. I have done both with a family of 4 and, with the inside cabin, if you are pushing your bottoms beds together to be able to sleep with your spouse, there is really no room to move around much. The beds are put together in the middle with the bunks hanging down from each side. However, if you leave the beds as twins separated to each side of the wall just underneath the bunks, you have more floor area to move around. Balcony OR Ocean View had more movement space for us.
