  1. We had the UDP and got to eat free at all of them Our favorite was Teppanyaki, which was Japanese. The chef prepares the meal right in front of you. He was very entertaining and the food was great. Second choice was Cagney's Steak House. It was good but the service was slow. Third would be Le Bistro a French restaurant. Not as many choices on the menu as Cagney's, but the food was good.

Cagney's and Teppanyaki are at the top of my list...

We have done a similar restaurant to Teppanyaki at Disney World (Teppan Edo). So my wife is thinking of trying something different. I'll definitely look into the menu at Le Bistro.

Did you try Moderno? How was that?

  2. You really can't be serious. Since NCL monitors this site and you have just told them what folks might be doing, do you really think they would fall for it. I certainly understand folks being upset about a policy, but to purposely lie to try and get their complaint across, well that is pretty disingenuous. Suggestions like the one you made sure puts us members of Cruise Critic in a pretty poor light.

It's not about falling for it, it's about getting their attention.

By that same logic, aren't we doing the same thing here right under their nose, providing e-mail addresses, sending letters, and then coming here copying and pasting our correspondence with them.

A not booked cruise is more impactful than a letter of complaint, but continuing to sail with them.

We can agree to disagree.... :)

  3. Reading through these, I have to say I am a little pleased with the attention that NCL is paying to these issues in the sense that they are personally replying to each correspondence.

I am displeased with their "canned response".

But I did notice the only time they actually reached out to the guests/customers was when they actually cancelled a vacation and attributed the cancellation with the fees. I saw that both in this thread as well as other threads here on CC>

So it got me thinking... When they make these changes, how do they measure the impact? And what will they do about it?

Seems to me, they will just deflect the real issue an assure you that your voice is heard. But they take it to the gut when money is pulled out from under them.

SO - Instead of writing a letter or sending an email that may fell on deaf ears (no I am not asking you to cancel your trip), but what if you got a few quotes, and put them on courtesy hold for a few days? Then call them back and tell them you decided to choose another cruise line due to policy changes that don't align with your idea of a cruise vacation. I personally think they would take that a little more serious than a well worded letter of displeasure - but you still continue to book with them. I would think they measure lost courtesy holds similar to cancellations, as there was a serious intent to book, and a choice made not to.

    Just a thought...

  4. Well the good thing is NCL is at least listening.

We cancelled our NCL cruise a few days ago, today we got a call from an NCL rep. The rep told me about a promotion that they had, I told her I just cancelled my cruise because of the 7.95 room service charge and the new rule about not taking food back to the cabin. She then told me the main reason for the call was because of the cancellation and they wanted to see what they could do to bring us back to NCL.

I went on again about the new policy changes. She said that NCL was listening to everyone's concerns and that the policy was not set in stone and it is possible that NCL could roll it back. She said repeatedly that she would make sure that our concerns were sent to higher ups. She also said that she hopes that we would return to NCL if the policies are removed.

She was very sweet and very courteous. Oh yeah she also said to go to NCL's website and post my complaints. I have never posted on NCL's website so I'm not sure where on the site to post, I should have asked but I did not think about it until I had already hung up. It should be easy to find, hopefully lol.

NCL is hearing us, maybe this will change things, maybe not. One thing is for sure people need to keep letting NCL know they are not happy with the changes. I know Disney cruise line has rolled back changes before they even started because of massive complaints. Maybe NCL will do the same and realize they have made a mistake. Good luck people.

Seems they listen best when you cancel... How do we get them to weigh "Not Booking" against "Cancelling"....

  5. Today is a GOOD DAY to voice your complaints ;)

The negative press they are receiving today can't be good. USA Today picked up the story  It's officially gone viral

    http://www.usatoday.com/story/cruiselog/2015/05/13/norwegian-cruise-food-ban/27034385/

    I love the secopnd paragraph:

    Don't book Norwegian Cruise Line.

That's straight and to the point!

Hopefully some national press may make them rethink their absurd policies.

  6. In reply to my specific question about being able to have breakfast or lunch on the pool deck from the buffet selections, NCL replied:

    "Hello ________,

Thank you for reaching out to us. For our guests’ well-being and to maintain a beautiful clean environment, we ask that guests enjoy their meals while dining at one of our many restaurants. Every ship in the Norwegian fleet offers dining at any time day or night, with a wide variety of options and cuisines available complimentary.

    Thank you."

But for only $7.95 we won't worry about this beautiful clean environment

  7. We are doing an Excursion in Alaska that is 3 12/ hours, running from 11:00 am to 2:30 pm.

There is no lunch provided. My kids are likely to be "stttttttaaaarrrrrrvvvvvvving!!!" (if you also have kids 10 and 12 years old you know what I mean)

I was told we can ask for a "bagged lunch" on the ship.

Has anyone done this, are you allowed to bring food of the ship? What would be included?

  8. I thought your iced tea tasted sweeter, I kept asking if it was "sweet tea" (mostly found in the south, where they actually add sugar to the tea) and they had no idea what I was talking about.

Now, please tell me, the beavertails you are talking about is the pastry????

It absolutely is a pastry... ;)

Kinda like a funnel cake or fried pancake, and topped with all kids of goodness.

  9. Still looking for my cruiseline of choice...

We have done Carnival out of Baltimore for the same reason as you, we were able to drive there and alleviate airfare.

We did Royal Caribbean because we wanted to try the largest ship in the world.

We are now trying NCL (In August) to try Freestyle cruising.

My initial opinions of Carnival vs. Royal are:

    - Food on Carnival was marginally better. Although there were more options on RC.

    - Entertainment on Royal was WAAAAY better

    - Staff on Carnival and over all cruise experience seemed more personal, maybe it was due to the fact the Royal ship was so large.

Can't wait to try NCL and compare.

(that mini comparison was really my way of saying "subscribing" to this thread)

  10. I'm curious about Canadian iced tea, I agree american iced tea is garbage I make my own which is Russian iced tea. Can't believe I have lived my whole life 15 minutes from the Canadian border and have never heard of Canadian iced tea.

Now ketchup potato chips, for sure, and poutine fries are the best thing ever!

The most popular brand of Iced Tea in Canada is not brewed tea at all.

Nestea is more of a tea flavoured syrup and water.

There are other brands though that are real brewed tea. But they still are generally sweeter then their american counterparts.

    Ok... now let's talk Beavertails...

  11. Iced Tea is my kids favourite beverage here in Canada. We go through a lot of it at our house...Much more than soda or lemonade.

They absolutely won't drink it when we visit the U.S. or cruise... It is a totally different drink and they hate it... So do I actually.... I'm too used to the Canadian version of Iced Tea... lol. It is the one thing we miss the most when on a cruise.

What we know as Iced tea isn't even tea I don't think.

Canadian money is plastic, we have no pennies, our milk comes in plastic bags and we love ketchup flavoured potato chips!! Lots of things are different here :D

    *clears throat*

    Hey,

I'm not a lumberjack, or a fur trader, and I don't live in an igloo or eat blubber, or own a dog sled, and I don't know Jimmy, Sally or Suzy from Canada, although I'm certain they're really, really nice.

I have a Prime Minister, not a President. I speak English and French, not American, and I pronounce it 'about', not 'a boot'.

I can proudly sew my country's flag on my backpack.

I believe in peacekeeping, not policing; diversity, not assimilation; and that the beaver is a truly proud and noble animal.

A tuque is a hat, a chesterfield is a couch, and it is pronounced zed: not zee – zed!!

Canada is the second largest land mass! The first nation of hockey! And the best part of North America!

My name is Joe!! And I am Canadian!

  12. Female-Linda. Funny, though, my husband's email starts with disdad.

He is cordially invited to join our group...

Face book - Dis dads club

    or disdads.com

or disboards.com under the Family groups, there is a DISDad forum.

    Tell them Brian sent ya...

  13. Thank you for the advice. It's very helpful and will help with my planning.

I did see the video for the Boathouse. That restaurant looks fabulous and I love the rides from the restaurant on the water.

Mind if I ask your gender... :)

You seem like you'd be an excellent fit for another group I am a part of. But it's an exclusive club just for men... Hahaha... not being sexist, it's just that we call ourselves the DISDads... If interested, I can get you in this exclusive group (or you can get in without me :) )

We go every January for marathon weekend (well some of us do). There are about 800 of us, and maybe 20 or so show up for what we dub the DDC (DISDads convention).

  14. Yes, I do understand that and plan on taking the bus to the closest resort to downtown Disney, whichhever shows up first. From there, I'll go downtown. I go to Disney every year and have been going since my youngest was 5. He's now 25! I'm anxious to see the changes, since I was there in December. I also want more ghiradelli sauces for gifts!

My question is, is there more than one bus time to go back to the ship or do they all go at the same time?

    No problem... :)

It's a common mistake people make thinking the buses go everywhere (even from resort to resort).

Glad to see another big Disney fan in this neck of the woods.

Biggest change from December to now is the removal of Mickey's Sorcerer hat at DHS.

At DTD the Boathouse restaurant is now open in part of the Disney Springs expansion.
