  1. Texas Red, this is my first time on Ruby, but on all of the other Grand class ships I have sailed on, I do the promenade deck for 2 rounds. Usually after dinner, helps me work off what I have eaten.

Thanks, that will work for us!!

  2. TXRed, my husband and I shared a coffee card. I bought the card on embarkation day, and I asked the person selling them if it was OK to share and he said yes. The punch card only had the ship name and voyage date/number.

Thanks...I am not a foo foo coffee drinker but my husband is....I like regular coffee so this will work for us. :D

  3. There is a deck designated as "jogging track" but it's rather a very curvy 15 laps to a mile track. Didn't enjoy it at all. It's all the way aft on Star deck 19.

As far as steam and saunas rooms my DH used them in 2012 free of charge and said it wasn't bad.

thanks for your reply...yikes 15 laps to a mile...do you know what deck the steam and saunas are located? Again, thanks

  4. The Promenade goes all around the Ruby. Be aware, there are steps that go up one deck in the forward area. Those steps and that area will be closed when it starts to get dark because you pass by ocean-view cabins in that area (you can see in the cabins if the lights are on and curtains open). Anyway, you will see people run/walk the Promenade all day long. The whole Promenade is only closed off if there are rough seas.

Thanks for your quick reply...gotta walk those calories off! LOL

  5. Here's our stateroom. I'll be honest the balcony rooms on Princess are a little smaller vs. the ones on Royal. We enjoyed having a little couch in our balcony room on Royal. My wife is also missing the Royal Promenade. But we have an open mind and we're excited for our experience on Princess.

hi Kent, do you mind me asking what deck you are on? And what is the available drawer space? TIA :D

  6. Yes, we have done that. The kiosks are right by the tram station, very easy to find from wherever your ship docks because you can just look up at the mountainside and see where the tram line comes down.

Also, Orca Enterprises (one of the most highly recommended whale watching companies) has their office right across the street from the tram station, on the second floor.

So if you stop by there (or call them) they may be able to get you on their next whale watching trip, or one later in the day.

It is one of the companies that also provide optional drop off at Mendenhall Glacier after the whale watching.

Naturally, it is probably easier to find a whale watching tour on the spur of the moment if you are there on a day when there are only one or two cruises ships in Juneau than if you are there on a day when there are many.

Thanks so much for your response. Is there a way to find out what or how many ships will be in port when we are? We are in Juneau on 9/9/15 from 12:30pm - 10:00pm Again thanks

  7. We are sailing on the Ruby on 9/6/15. We decided not to pre book a whale watching tour in Juneau for several reasons. I was told there were kiosks at the Pier where, if some of us decided to try to go on a whale watching tour, could probably book a tour right there. Has anyone ever tried this? If so, were you able to book a tour? Thanks

  8. Instead of planning to forget something, why not take a few minutes and make a packing list? I see that mentioned on these boards all the time but I have never done this. Some people swear by them. I'm sure you can get a template online somewhere. Then you can just check off everything as it gets packed and you shouldn't have to worry about forgetting something. Just a suggestion. :)

    .

Thank you for your suggestion...I do use a packing list, but I have a husband...nuff said! :p

  9. What do you need at a Ketchikan Walmart that you can't get from a Seattle/Vancouver Walmart?

We will not know until we get on the ship and unpack if we forgot anything and we are not going to Vancouver.

  10. The Walmart store itself is a few miles outside of town, but the free Walmart shuttle picks up passengers on Main Street right beside the Southeast Alaska Discovery Center, a short walk from most of the cruise ship docks.

Just ask anyone where to find the Southeast Alaska Discovery Center, a large building (indicated by the star on this map)

    Thanks so much!!

  11. There absolutely is a free shuttle bus to WalMart. We saw it and laughed, but then realized of course that several crew members were on it and yeah, it was a good idea. :p:D

You can google the information and get location and map.

Thanks....love there is a free shuttle...especially for staff to use.

  12. Does any one know the current fare for using either the "blue" or "white" bus to go to Mendenhall Glacier?

I forgot from my last trip if we buy the tickets on board or from the ticket counters by the tram area?

Do we know what time the buses start running to the glacier?

    Thanks!

What is the difference in the White bus vs the Blue bus?? We plan to take the blue bus instead of doing a regular tour. Thanks.

  13. Does anyone know if there is a Walmart in Ketchikan?

Is my friend pulling my leg? And if so, how far from the cruise pier? My DH will surely forget something very important. LAst time it was underwear. :D Thanks in advance.
