  1. I had a different experience. The brisket was soft and had a wonderfully dense crust (as it should). I believe that this is more of a Texas-style BBQ experience, than a Carolina-style. I didn't have the greens, but they didn't appear the way that you described yours. Personally? I prefer KC-style BBQ.

Sounds like there were some issues on your cruise.

Yeah it almost seem like the beef had been boiled it was dense and waterlogged and flavorless. Yes beef brisket is uniquely Texas style but pulled pork is Carolina all the way until a few years ago you never heard of pulled pork outside of the Carolinas or Virginia now I’ve seen at Subway in California. He has his own brand of signature sauces in one of them is specifically labeled Carolina which one would assume is to be put on the Carolina style pulled pork. Best I can tell there was zero vinegar in it. vinegar is the main ingredient in any Carolina style barbecue sauce as it helps to cut the fat like a solvent and keeps you from getting upset stomach from eating too much pork. The way the meat was prepared poorly I blame on the chefs on the cruise ship however the signature sauces are Guys recipes alone and I unfortunately have to lay the blame at his feet

  2. We booked the Dream for a third time because we love the tandoor grill only to learn that is about to be removed from service. That said we also were excited to try the new pig and anchor barbecue Because we are from the south and love barbecue and we are Guy fans. We waited in a long line for about 20 minutes to get our barbecue and I could tell when I saw the beef brisket that something was wrong. It was a dense and hard and had no smoke ring. Then they piled the greens on my plate and they were covered with a slimy yellow grease and had no vinegar smell. I reach for the Carolina barbecue sauce for my pulled pork in it was the right color but again had no smell of vinegar in was a bit sweet tasting nothing like anything in any of the Carolinas. I tried to eat the greens I took two or three bites forcing myself to eat this slimy crap with no vinegar. I have no idea what that was but they were not greens this southern boy knows better. I took one bite of the brisket and spit it out. Anyone that knows me knows that I love beef brisket and I know what it is and whatever this crap was it had no business being on the menu and I’m sure guy would be hugely embarrassed if he tasted it. The chicken was just OK not enough smoke as was the pulled pork. But again Carolina style pulled pork is all about the vinegar-based sauce and there was none to be found on the ship. Is I threw most of my food away I heard other people complaining that the food was not worth the wait and there was much disappointment all around me. At the dinner table The only ones who had anything nice to say about the barbecue were the people from Michigan and being that they don’t have a strong barbecue tradition up there I will give them a pass for not knowing better. The sad thing was the dream heels out of Louisiana and poles from all the deep southern states and everyone on that ship nurse for barbecue were supposed to be in the aint this crap unfortunately

  3. If anything I always assumed people they got outside rooms were newbies and I was snobby to them because they didn’t think they know how to save money or enjoy your cruise without being holed up in their room. It’s all perception BS

  4. we recently went on the dream out of New Orleans and we found almost the opposite that when we told people that we were from Virginia all of deep southerners in midwesters gave us a blank stare. We are two professionals that grew up with a humble roots in live in a small town yet by the end of the cruise it was clear to us that we were being treated like east coast elites based on where we lived and we could not engage in simple conversations once they heard we were from a blue state. Out of all the cruises I’ve been on this is the only one where we’ve been treated this way and not made a ton of new friends. To be honest it looks like the ship backed up to the bass pro shop and loaded up all of its customers but that doesn’t bother us, Because they look like our extended family members for the most part. So I would consider this reverse snobbery we felt completely snubbed Because basically we were some of the only people on the ship not wearing an article of camo

  5. Once again Carnival is late to the game with this reactionary response. After about 10 ,000 people posted that they were upset that Carnival dropped the ball and handle cancellations poorly.... and now that the competition had been all over the news doing this humanitarian work... Then another 10,000 people started posting that they were going to NCL and RCL because they are were also good corporate citizens... NOW and ONLY now... AFTER the fact they ere trying to act like leaders? LOL thats not how it works, You cannot be a leader when you are just a 2nd rate follower. They dropped one too many balls and lost many thousands of loyal customers. Too late Carnival. Live and learn... better sell your stock

  6. Two hot tips that I heard on the news one was bring cash if you're stuck in Florida and you don't have cash you may be in big trouble because they'll be no electricity for the ATMs. Also Airbnb has an emergency response protocol they they have initiated for travelers where you can get emergency shelter while traveling home which is very cool. So if you're returning from a cruise and a dump you off in Florida these tips good be helpful

  7. If you were sailing to anywhere other than Bermuda I would say cancel but as far as I know Bermuda is probably OK this week. With that said people keep referring to Bermuda in the Caribbean and that is incorrect Bermuda is right off of the coast of South Carolina and not in the Caribbean at all, they have different weather etc. also for your first cruise it probably would have been better to do a Caribbean cruise in the winter to get your sea legs. The Atlantic can be rough compared to the Caribbean/ gulf and there's no telling how you will react

  8. Hey fellow Vista Cruiser: Still waiting for update via the web site and or text. I'm wondering if due to evacuations the Carnival staff is doing what they should be doing: Get them and their families including 4 legged members out of Dodge. It would have been nice if they just postponed or better yet cancelled out 8 Day Vista Cruise out of Miami this Saturday. Things are going government slow. :ship:

  9. So why did you resurrect this dead thread yesterday? To put your virtuousness on display for a bunch of people you literally have nothing in common with?

    Unreal.

I didn't resresurrect is thread. I simply answered the questions as to whether or not I would be willing to pay for a cruise on this line that had non-smoking nothing wrong with that. Virtuous really not liking cancer is virtuous I'll take that virtual all day long and you can keep your second hand smoke in your house and out of my lungs how's that for virtuous?

  10. I have to disagree. If the OP decides to cancel on his initiative and he will lose 100% of his fare. It's nerve wracking not to know exactly what Carnival will do about the upcoming sailing but if he wants a refund he has to wait for their decision.

Well you're incorrect you're the CEO has already posted that if there's any changes to the itinerary you will get a credit if you don't want to except the change

  11. If someone decides to play in the smoking section, that is on them not me. If they choose to wave their arms at me like they are bringing in a 747 well....they deserve it.

Admittedly I've never been on a Norwegian ship. On the Carnival ship that I take it's 100% impossible to avoid the smoke because they require you to walk through the casino to get to the dining room and this casino has smoke it so thick it looks like a fog

  12. If carnival doesn't cancel my vista cruise out of Miami sat at 1 o'clock it will have been my very last Carnival booking at about 10 I've had so far. We plan on retiring in eight years and we're going to cruise nearly full-time there after so it will definitely be a big loss for them. They had an opportunity to lead and what they have done is created chaos. We have friends in Florida now and others flying in today that somehow think they're going to be on a cruise ship instead they're putting themselves at severe risk because of carnivals poor leadership and greed.

  13. That is exactly what the non smokers do. They come into the smoking section of the Breakaway and whine & wave their arms at me. That is when I blow smoke in their direction and politely tell them the non smoking section is on the other side. They know this but they prefer to make a scene.

Maybe we need a marijuana smoking area heroin shooting up gallery a crack den and maybe a drunk tank? Every rotten vice can have their own little area where they can go kill themselves and I think we should probably keep it down in the engine room where we don't have to see this deplorable toxic way of life :D seriously smoking is gross why would you put it on anyone else?

  14. Ah, but will they pony up the $25k+ needed for a medevac? (One can get medevac coverage only but I've found the comprehensive plans to be more robust with only a little more cost.) Ooops, should have read the next reply.

Well to your point I didn't consider medical coverage however that's a less likely risk for someone like me and I really don't know enough about the say it's good or bad but I suppose I could concede to your point

  15. Refund of the deposit depends on the T&C of the fare. If it's a non-refundable deposit it's forfeited. If it's refundable it's either refunded or available towards a future booking. This is why it's important to read the fine print before making a booking commitment especially on promotional sales. A "Reduced Deposit!" is often non-refundable.

The cabin goes into inventory and re-sold and priced according to demand. Depending on that demand, a last minute cabin can actually sell for more than the original passenger's price.

Honestly what I'm seeing from both the cruise and the airlines even if you have a nonrefundable ticket you're still pretty much taken care of the customers the end of the day

  16. So avoid the smoking areas - it ain't hard.

I accept that casino smoking is an issue - I personally do not have a problem with non-smoking casinos - I think it is a good idea. If you hadn't guessed, I am a smoker and I like the casino. I have no problem with adjourning to the cigar room/outside smoking area when I want a smoke. It saves me a few quid when I'm not in the casino after all.

It's not really hard it's impossible on the Carnival ship that I've been on lately they put a casino is the main hall to access the dining room and outside they have smoking areas that you just walk around a corner to get a face for smoking never even see it coming. I'm with you on the cigars and honestly if they had really good smoking areas in the casinos and then areas of casinos it were smoking that would be cool but I've never seen that at least want to hit a wall
