  1. I would assume that is a boat load of sea days to get to that level in perk program... ( sounds like a high level in-Program).. you don't know what benefits come with that ??

I travel a bunch for work and have 768 mikes to go for Premier 1K on united , I and most people know who fly often know every single benefit and when achieved

Your response is not appreciated! FYI We don't cruise for the perks we just enjoy cruising. That's why I asked the question. If you don't know the answer don't respond. Just my opinion on your response.

  2. Thanks for all the replies. We decided to go with South Florida Shuttles.

Good price for 6 of us ($8 each). It's a private shuttle, we don't have to wait for it to fill up. I would have done Uber but the other couples out voted me and they want to stay together in one van.

  3. We are staying at Hyatt Place Ft. Lauderdale Airport & Cruise Port

91 Southwest 18th Avenue, Dania Beach for a Jan 21 Cruise on the Carnival Conquest. Any suggestions on how 6 people should get to Port Everglades on a Saturday morning. We all have a 11:00 AM check in time.

The hotel offers a shuttle for $10 PP. I have had bad experiences with shuttle on past trips (having to sit and wait for the shuttle to fill up before leaving).

I have used Uber but never to got to a cruise port. We can split up and use different modes if necessary.

    Looking for advice.

  4. We are returning to the Conquest for a B2B in Jan 2017. We sailed her years ago right after she was added to the Carnival Fleet and loved the ship. The reviews I have read a great. A cruise is what you make of it. We don't buy pictures or do a lot of extras and still have a great time. If you look at my past cruises in the signature you will see we have had several Carnival Cruises. We keep coming back because we have never had a negative experience.

  5. I was thinking the same thing but I have always gotten off the ship even to walk around and find a local bar just to see what is around. Have been to the DR on land vacations but never to Santo Domingo so if it is a sunny day I am sure i will get off for a little while. Must be an old fort that would be interesting.

Are you on the roll call? That may be the same thing we do. Sometimes you can get an english speaking taxi driver to give you a taxi tour and then to a safe bar.

  6. I asked the same question May 11 as I am on the same cruise in January and got one response from Capt BJ.

"Took my ship in here a few times for R&R ... not one of my favorite places.

The capital city .... cruise terminal is actually on the east side of the river while the main town is on the west side. So if they put you at the cruise terminal, that's your first issue, get to the other side.

No beach to speak of in the area, the city is LARGE with a busy downtown. There are some large resort type hotels on the coast with casinos.

best bet for a day tour would be something visiting some of the many Spanish Forts and cathedrals. Also you'll find Cuban cigars if you are into that. I had an officer that would budget several hundred dollars for cigars every time we went."

I am also waiting to see what opens up and would like to know if we can get a tour once we get off the ship.

Yes, I read your post. I don't think Carnival has ever visited this port before. I wonder why now. It doesn't sound very appealing. If I can't find a decent Carnival excursion, it might be a stay on the ship day.

  7. There is a simple way to get around this but I'm not going to put any ideas in people's heads. I'm surprised I haven't seen people talk about it on these boards.

Yes, I know what you are talking about. It involves using a guest getting off.

Drinking on the second leg is not that important for me.

  8. When we did our B2B we did have our liquor that was purchased on the first leg to be able to drink on the second. I know there have been some modifications and now you have to go pick it up, it's not delivered, so that have changed things.

Yes, they have changed the process. The liquor purchased on the first leg is held until you finish the second leg. We did a B2B on the Dream last Jan and this was the new process.

It was a Journey Cruise (first was 11 days and second 10 days). Several cruisers tried to get the liquor after the first leg of the B2B but were told no.

The process had just changed in Dec 2015. They were disappointed.

  9. We were on the same cruise (if April 25) and pretty much agree with your review, especially the part about the passengers. This was our first on the Ecstasy after 7 times on the Fantasy. The Fantasy had been gradually deteriorating in terms of the passengers it attracts but the Ecstasy takes the prize for the fattest, tackiest, poorly dressed, gluttonous people I've ever seen in one place. And, to top it off it was full of children, many of whom were allowed to run around in the Lido and eat ice cream all day long. They're on the same path as their parents I'm afraid. I booked this cruise because I believed there would be fewer children on board since school is still in session, not a holiday, or spring break. I guess parents just dont care if they take them out if they can save a few dollars.

We still plan to cruise, but as many have said here, you get what you pay for. We cruised on the Celebrity Reflection last December and the passengers were nothing like those on the Ecstasy. I'd rather cruise once a year on the Refection or similar ship rather than twice on the Ecstasy. Plus I think we'll go back to HAL where the age group is a bit older and fewer children.

A cruise is what you make of it. I do not judge the passengers on looks or body size. From what I have heard about Celebrity it may be better for "higher class" folks like you think you are. Some of the nicest people I have met on a cruise are the "fattest, tackiest, poorly dressed, gluttonous people"

as you called them. I hope this offends you because it was meant too!

  10. Yes, I think you may be right (about "not our cup of tea") but I really wanted us to love it because it's so easy out of the MidAtlantic. I would consider trying a different ship/ports (might not convince DH to join me;)

I see you have been on Ecstasy and several others --have you found other cruises to be significantly more elegant/classier than Ecstasy?

Have done the Ecstasy yet. We will be on it in Oct 2016. We have done several ships and yes the newer ships have more to offer. The dream was the newest we were on recently. It was very nice.

My wife and I are easy to please, so my opinion might not help. We like the smaller ships rather than the larger. We do not mind the age of the ship. We loved the Fantasy, Carnival's oldest ship.

The decor is not a factor for us. We just enjoy cruising. We have never had a bad cruise, even when we returned in a hurricane. The ports are more important to us. We are running our of ports we have not visited. We are starting to do more land trips to see parts of the country we have not been to.

My advice to you, do what you enjoy and try to make the best out of any time you can be with your family. It's important to enjoy spending quality time with your family as much as you can. Soon your children will be grown and gone. Just my two cents.

  11. For the first time, after 18 cruises, we are letting Carnival assign our cabin. We did this because of the super deal. Selecting a room was not an option with the special price.

The price was too good to pass. We got a 6 day cruise for $329 PP out of Charleston in Oct.

I was wondering is anyone on CC has experience with Carnival selecting the cabin for you. When do you find out the cabin number?

    Rick

  12. So, does anyone here happen to know who the matre d' is for the Scarlet restaurant on the Dream? I plan on e-mailing him/her a few days prior to our Jan 31 cruise to ensure our group has a table together. It would be nice to know the matre d's name, just seems to be rude to ask a favor and not know their name.....

There is an easier way. Just call Carnival and link the booking numbers together for dining. This needs to be done 48 prior to leaving. I have done this many times. You just need everyone's name and booking number.
