I have just found this thread and am annoyed with some of the comments,
You know who you are Seashark.
Tipping is not just an American culture. We all want excellent service and we all like to reward this.
A gratuity is a voluntary amount of money given in exchange for a service performed. A gratuity is also known as a tip. Example —We typically tip our waitress or our hair stylist for great service. So, what's the difference — A service charge is mandatory and it is pre-determined by the hotel or vendor in the instance Cruise Ships..
Anyway......... gratuity and tip are the the same thing, but the service charge to defray the cost of balancing basic wages for non-tipped staff and to provide medical benefits for all. ... Tipping is expected on top of that.
I have also done some calculations on on gratuity on MSC.
If the Seaside is full and everyone paid their daily gratuities then an amount of $68,750 more income will be given on a daily basis. That is $481,250 every 7 days. WOW.
I have cruised many times and I do like when everything is included in your overall price, this saves a lot of confusion and you are aware of what you are paying before you go..
Sorry for the rant.

It know I called to ask a question as I am going on the explorer soon and they could not answer as I booked though my TA. What is all that about.

Hi dont want to stick my nose in here re insurance, however the cheapest and best I get for my hubby is jet2 you don't need to book with them, every where I tried would either not insure him or was asking an arm and a leg jet 2 was only an arm....

Bumping it up again before we lose this thread altogether as it is the best information anyone can get if you are a first time cruiser like me or an old hand
PLEASE PLEASE CRUISE CRUSE CRITIC MAKE IT A STICKY
-
Just thought I would bump this up again as I think this is a great thread and a lot of work gone into it. It's a pity it still has not had the recognition it deserves. Go on Cruise Crutic give it a sticky status.

Loving the reviews. Bumping up so we don't lose sight of this great thread
-
Start submitting your reviews now! :D
Doesn't matter when it was you stayed in the cabin, as long as you have and can fill in the form. If you don't remember certain criteria on the form, then don't worry, just put N/A or something.
I've emailed CC asking for it to be a sticky thread so that it should remain at the top. :)
Great idea to keep it at the top of the forum for easy access especially for people like me that has never cruised before.
It's like playing BINGO / LOTTO. Waiting for my ship to come in and my number to come up.
Come on DREAM number 9021

Just done a bit more research and they say that there is 759 crew members on board this is equivalent to 0. 138 to passengers.
If all crew members received the gratuities they would all receive an extra $634 per month. Not bad for doing your job.
