  1. In a couple weeks we are sailing SB in Alaska on Golden. My daughter is a dancer, and I'd LOVE to get pictures of her on deck en pointe with Glacier Bay in the background(weather permitting). I'm picturing rows of people taking up good viewing areas and am afraid I won't be able to get anything without other people in the shot. Where would the best place to do this be on board?

  2. They cannot answer because it varies widely by date and ship you sail. We home school, so when we go in January, there are usually 2 staff and MAYBE 8 kids was the most I saw. But in summer, over Thanksgiving or Christmas breaks, my guess is they staff more people, but there are also loads more kids. When we did a Disney cruise over Spring Break when my kids were still in traditional school, there were probably 80 kids and maybe 6 staff.

  3. 2013 on the Jubilee the same thing happened. I think we hit one port and then Ensenada. Free drinks for an hour for the hassle and booking it at warp speed to out run a hurricane. Barf bags up and down the stairways! I was only about 14 or 15, and, in the hustle and bustle of free drink hour, was served the "real deal" in the bars! I go back on the Imagination in January. (Was on her in 2015 as well) Looking forward to reading more.

  4. For those who like the smaller, older ships, I would view the release of new ships as a positive. So many people want the new, shiny ship to sail on for a new experience. Seems the new ships also come with a higher cruising price tag, so those on similar itineraries with older ships may see a price drop.

  5. Laundry being prohibited at certain times was mentioned several places here on CC. Thank you so much Colagril! Golden is the ship we are on. Looks like you did Northbound and we are doing south bound. I had planned on doing laundry when in Juneau. I may need to change that and do it when we leave Juneau, but that will work as well. Thank you!

  6. I read you cannot do laundry when in Alaskan waters. Does this mean I won't be able to do it on days we are doing scenic cruising OR on days we are docked in Alaskan ports? So pretty much the whole time? Our first 2 days are scenic cruising, then Skagway, Juneau and Kechikan, one sea day then Vancouver. I had planned on doing it when we were docked in Juneau.

  7. Thank you all! bar Wars sounds similar to the event on Carnival. I won, got the drink I mixed(which made 2), and 5 free drink tickets! My parents won champagne, chocolate strawberries and priority seating for newlywed game, and dh won wine and dinner for 2! We made out like bandits! Guess I'll lower expectations for Princess.

  8. New car for finding the secret door to nirvana.

Plenty of contests and competitions with opportunities to win “prizes” on Princess cruises.

Do you have any specifics for a Princess newbie? And thank you for the new cruiser talk heads up!

  9. I've been on Carnival multiple times, so know about free drink tickets for winner of bartender contest, drawings on the first day for spa credit, and free excursions, dinners at the talks. Does Princess have similar opportunities? My family has fun participating in these.

  10. I've been reading stuff for the last hour on the prepaid tips. So is Princess one that basically takes the gratuities and uses it to "fund" salaries and the crew never sees any of it? If this is the case, what CAN the crew keep? Do they split any cash left? Do they get to keep all cash left? I want to make sure the people giving me service are the ones seeing my money. Not CCL/Princess corporate just adding it to their coffers to pay their people. Thank you!

  11. I was reading today about how all the states in America charge different rates of tax individual to them, except fuel and drink. It is a system that is second nature to you and something we don’t need to do here.

Every country have there own ways, it’s what makes us want to explore.

Fuel and drink taxes vary by state as well. Also, different COUNTIES, even cities in the same county, in each state also have different tax rates. For alcohol, some states have certain stores you have to go to in order to buy it. Other states sell it in grocery stores. We are an odd lot!

  12. Thank you! Bummer they aren't updated. At least the itinerary is pretty port intensive, so those days are not an issue. Glad to hear the programming itself is the newer stuff. I'd still love to see scheduled if anyone has them. I'm hoping a few kids will be on board, though with school starting so early now, I know mid-late August will have fewer than say July sailings.
