  1. Just off 2weeks with Tony on the Pride. While the crowd was light many nights, I think much of that was the average age of the passengers (68), the location of the PB on this class ship, and other things. However, we closed it down every night and throughly enjoyed him and the regular PB flies who were there with us.

Just off a B2B on The Breeze and Ben Gentry was great!! We closed the placed down with others every night (one night not until 2:40AM!!!). He does a great job of getting people involved and part of the acts. If you just wanna sit and listen --- well, you'll still get calls out - especially if you need a Baaarrrrrrr Tender.

  3. Unfortunately, same place as before. 1 hr and 55 minutes away from a very strong competitor: Port Canaveral. A port that is growing, deepening the channel, and expanding its facilities to accommodate the largest ships being built today.

In the meantime, Tampa is stuck, with a cruise terminal on the other side of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, limiting it to ships not much larger than the Legend, which will eventually mean certain death unless they take some drastic measures.

With Legend's departure, Tampa is left with only one year round ship (and just doing short cruises), and 3 seasonal ships.

Actually it's going to open options for other lines to provide more 7/8 day options from Tampa if something else isn't added by CCL.

  4. Our last cruise was in October and we were told the alligator fritters didn't have alligator in them because they couldn't get a shipment of alligator in. Sounds like this is really common. Wonder if they ever intend to actually put alligator in the fritters? Not complaining- just wondering...

In any case, by far the best change we made on our last cruise regarding food was to eat lunch in the dining room vice the Lido Deck. We don't have little ones so it was just us and changing out of our pool wear was easy enough. We found the dining room lunches to be of better quality than even the dinners. The caprese salad was especially good as was the lunch salmon item.

When at the Chef's Table last month on the Paradise repo, I talked to the chef about the gator (being in Florida). He said that they use about 60lbs of gator for the DIJA fritter offer and if they don't have the gator it's not offered on the menu (they can and do print updated menus when necessary), so it seems that a few different stories about this exist. While they are not as good a straight gator without all the breading and fluff, they are still good and like another poster said, I wouldn't avoid any dish based on what someone else thinks - we all have our own likes and dislikes.

  5. Another reason to take duct tape with you.

Tape over unusual looking electronic gizmos/gadgets/thingies!

Keep your duct tape in your checked bag. Port security pulled my roll in June (along with extra plastic ties that I use for diving, "locking" luggage, etc.); apparently they are viewed as "restraining devices" and on the naughty list.

  6. Many years ago, on one of our first cruises, we took one of the "booze cruises" out of Nassau. You all know these boats, those double deck boats that look barely seaworthy and loaded with rum. Well at the time I was in shape enough to wear a speedo (or thought I was). Once the "cruise" reached the far away island we were all toasted and my DW and I headed off for some more sun and water. Now, what I did not mention was that in addition to the speedo, I also had a thong from the same material. Once we were alone, I changed into the thong to get extra sun. By the time the Booze Cruise sounded the horn for us to head back to the boat, the rum had hit hard and I forgot all about the thong being on and the speedo being up on the beech. Well the BC ride back was fun and a group of British single ladies apparently enjoyed taking pictures of my tanned "arse" with their hands in varying positions. It was something my DW and I still laugh about many years later. For those cruising with us this year, don't worry, this old man doesn't wear the speedos (or thongs) any longer --- too many extra cruise pounds I guess.

If any CC cruisers happen to have these pictures, let me know.... ;)
