  1. Sorrento's is nowhere near as good as Italian Village or Giuseppe's pizza here in town (run by the same family-they immigrated here from Italy many moons ago) BUT it is decent late night/had a few beers/just need a quick snack pizza. My teen son loved it of course and did not go a day without having at least one slice. The teens in his group of friends were amazed to learn you could order a whole pizza and take it back to the room (I was amazed they could fit so many teen boys in an inside cabin along with the pizza :D).

  2. Maybe I should have worded it in simpler terms about the "me" generation and not used MandyMooToo's post as an example. Today's "me first and only" generation is as you pointed out different between those that follow rules and those that disregard rules.

As mentioned people will do what they "they feel is right for their family" and where they draw their personal line on behavior is not my business. It is confusing to me that some here will pick a cruise line that prohibits bringing booze onboard, smoking on the balcony. or even shorts in the dinner venue, and then come here to complain about it.

While breaking a rule (shorts in the MDR) has possible little or no repercussion; stealing in some areas of the world will result in your arm being cut off.

NOTE: I AM NOT SUGGESTION WE CUT ARMS OFF OF SMART SHORT WEARERS. JUST WANTED TO BE CLEAR.

Once again; we pick and choose which rules to follow, however the repercussions are yours.

I understand your point about the "me generation" as I am a juvenile probation officer and it seems that I see "me, me, me" all the time with a lot of young people and their parents (not all of course, some kids just do something dumb and have to work through the consequences). I guess my frustration came from you seeming to label me as one of these entitled "me" people. That was not what I was saying at all. I was basically saying that me and mine, meaning my family, will follow the

rules/suggestions/recommendations because I think that is the right thing to do for us. What everyone else does is their business as I cannot control what someone wears to the MDR anymore than I can control what you post in reply on this board.

As for your other point/statement about following one rule and breaking another, I do not break the other rules either as far as I know. We don't smuggle on booze, we buy a drink package (and do not share), we do not smoke at all so no issue there and we don't take pool towels home from the ship either. I'm sorry but I am rule follower :o Cannot help it, must just be engrained in me or something. As I said before: I am a probation officer, my husband is a police officer, father is a retired firefighter/EMT, and lots of military in the family too! So if I break a rule it is by accident. I just can't help but do as I am told :D

  3. We booked Allure for 7 nights leaving August 31st using the police discount (husband is a police officer) and got a category N inside cabin, we always book inside for the complete darkness he needs to sleep. We paid $678pp and the prices have fluctuated wildly since that time. They have never dropped below what we paid but have instead gone up quite a bit. Right now the same category comes out at $1069pp with the "sale" going on ($1462pp with a $714 discount on one fare for the BOGOHO). We always look for a cruise in the time frame in which we can go but then narrow it down based on discounts if available. :)

  4. You shouldn't be getting one, but giving one.

This poster isn't making it all about them, they are merely suggesting that they stop worrying about everyone else failing to do something and focus on making sure they, themselves, are following the guidelines.

AKA stop being a busy-body who worries about whether everyone else is complying and instead worry about your own family complying.

You jumped on the wrong type of person in your little war.

Ultimately human beings are going to initially do what they feel is right for their family. Purely by the length of this thread it is clear to see the discrepancies between priorities.

If people weren't thinking of themselves and their families, they wouldn't be going on a cruise in the first place, would they? They're not going for anyone else's benefit, surely?

What a strange perspective you have.

    ^^^ Yes!

Thank you, glad at least two people understood my point.

  5. And this explains why we are at as a society. Me, Me, ME!

Wow, how rude. Did you even read my post and the context it was written in?? I did use the word "me" but it was in relation to what I and my family see as complying with rules/suggestions given by the cruise line and how I made it clear to my child and his friend that they would comply or not dine I n that venue. Rules/regulations are what society supposedly relies on for order. Since that's what we were doing your smart aleck reply was ridiculous.

  6. I have to say on my Indy cruise last year I saw many teenage girls dressed up to the nines, but I can't say I once saw any of the boys she had made friends with in ties. And that was during the summer hols in Europe with loads of teens on board.

I guess the way that I see it is "me and mine" will follow what we feel is the suggested/appropriate/recommended/etc. dress code and wear our fussy, gussy outfits in the MDR at dinner no matter what the other diners are wearing. I cannot speak for anyone else's teens, nor do I really care about what anyone else is wearing as it does not effect how my dinner tastes (which is what I am really concerned about :D) . I felt like telling the boys that they could wear whatever they wanted was saying the rules (suggestions-whatever) do not apply to them and so I gave them a rule of my own. Dress they way I say for dinner in the MDR or find another, more casual place to eat. Maybe I am in the minority but I did what I felt was best for my cruise, just as everyone else here will do what they think is best for their cruise.

  7. Last year we took our 10 DD and 16 DS on their first cruise. Both were dressed as the code suggests. My daughter wore dresses. My son wore dress pants and shirts.

Teaching them how to dress and act at dinner is all part of growing up. No matter what the age. Was there extra cost to me to provide the clothing? Yes, but I considered that part of the expense of the trip.

    +3 :)

Yep, took two boys/young men last year on Oasis, both 17 years old, both wore dress slacks, button up shirts and ties with dress shoes and a nice belt in the MDR. They were told before the cruise that they could adhere to dress code and eat in the MDR each night with us or they could be casual and eat in the many other places offered on the boat. They chose to dress appropriately and dine in the MDR some nights and at Sorrento's on the nights they did not feel like getting gussied up. ;)

  8. ditto :):)

Another vote for Peat Taylor. We have used them twice and been exceptionally well cared for and very satisfied each time. Private tour out of Falmouth for 4 people cost us $160 total. We went shopping, ate at Scotchies and spent hours at Doctor's Cave beach. Never were we alone and we always felt safe. Cost was much less than similar excursions from RCCL. Fair warning though-if you book independently you are responsible for the trip and any issues that arise (such as getting back to the ship on time). We were confident with Peat Taylor's company as we had used them before when we traveled to a resort in Jamaica.

  9. I learned to shop from the best........The DW!

As with shopping all the time on land I shop around for the best deals, so it be also on a cruise. I love watches and before I go on the cruise, I already know what I want in various styles and brands, so I go to stores and look at sources online and price the ones I want to look for be it on the ship or in a port so that I will know if it is a good deal or not and also taking into account our high sales tax here in North Carolina. There was a time however I went with my gut and bought a watch in St. Croix that I saw and really liked and I thought the price was pretty good. It turned out that I could have gotten the watch for about $50.00 cheaper online, but that is the chance you take sometimes and I wa happy with the price at the time.

I see people have been dogging invicta watches. I got a good deal on one on Freedom last year, and it was not cheaper anywhere I looked (Stores or online) and I have been very happy with it. I also bought a Michael Kors watch I had priced before that cruise in Cozumel for a better price than what I found in the department stores.

I feel ya! Tennessee sales tax is 9.45% so often we can get a deal just by not having to pay that tax as duty charges are much less.

  10. Exactly. Planning to buy jewelry or electronics on a cruise can be a very fun part of vacation, whether it be at the onboard shops or a port stop. When I look at my America's Cup Citizen watch I think of the great time I had in Barbados.

We always jewelry shop on our cruises, on the boat and in ports. Last year we were on Oasis and I found a Tag that I fell in love with but decided not to buy because I was not sure about typical pricing on this model as I had never seen it before (we usually know what we are looking for before the cruise and have a good idea of pricing beforehand). Imagine my disappointment when I got back to the states and the Tag dealer we spoke to said no one carries that particular model! It had to be a special edition for that dealer, as can happen apparently. I wish the dealer had explained that to me because that watch would have been mine!!! Instead we purchased a gorgeous piece of jewelry in port. This year's Allure cruise may see me searching for watches again though....I think if you know what you are looking for you won't get "scammed" on price. Husband has a watch obsession (Hublot being his fave, Omega being my son's fave) so we are always looking for great deals.

  11. Fountain soda is included in the package, but the mini-bar has cans. I don't think you can get cans from a bar with the package.

Also, I think that the bottles of water in the mini-bar are different from the ones that you get in the package from a bar.

What I found funny about the can/fountain soda thing on Oasis last year is that with the package, like you said previously, I got fountain soda everywhere except Sorrentos. When I went to the bar there to get a soda they opened a can and poured it in a cup. I couldn't have the whole can though...how funny

  12. That’s just ridiculous. I previously had the drink package on my last trip and my drinks were no weaker than any time before on a cruise.

I also hear how service suffers with those with those that have drink packages. As my British friends would say….rubbish!

It’s very simple math and we all know about how much we consume drink wise on a cruise.

If you’re a 2-3 drink max kind of person then the drink package is not for you. If you bang back 4+ and like good wine by the glass and premium booze I’d say it’s worth it.

    Hear, hear! ;)

  13. I wonder why ? You have paid for the drinks so therefore should be included don't you think. Especially if the bottled beers etc are part of the package?

It's an interesting question when you consider that water and soda are included in the Royal Replenishment Package.....

My understanding, and I am sure someone will correct me here if I am wrong, is that the mini bars are stocked by a vendor of some sort so they are not a part of the package. We usually just grabbed a soda or whatever on the way to our room to avoid the mini bar issue. No shortage of bars :)

  14. oh boy , great now im rethinking the non alcohol package , lol

    thanks for sharing.

i also heard they give the drinks in a small cup rather than a regular glass ,was that true?

My husband and I had the packages (premium) last summer on Oasis and are purchasing them for the Allure cruise we have booked this summer. We always got drinks in a normal size glass, no tiny cups :)

  15. I was sold on getting the drink package for myself when our friends told us yesterday they spent $800 on alcohol for a 4 day cruise and they didn't get the package.

Yep, I had two family members that spent $400-500 on a 4 night cruise (would have been more but one got a nasty sunburn and stayed in the cabin for a couple of those days) and another couple that spent over $1000 on a 7 day cruise (and theirs was almost exclusively beer)!! I enjoy a nice glass of wine, a pale ale, martinis, and G&T's so it pays for me with the added value of bottled water and sodas.

  16. Two nights cruising is better than no nights to me! That being said, Oasis is a big ship so you would have to go knowing that many of us (myself included) felt a week wasn't long enough to do everything the ship has to offer. If you are looking for a short, fun cruise (where you won't be trying to cram everything in) then two days on Oasis would be great!

  17. My husband and I had the premium package on Oasis last summer and loved it! Service was great, drinks were strong to normal and never had an issue getting a souvenir glass (paid $3 or $4 maybe?). Definitely getting the package again for our Allure cruise in August. I really enjoyed mimosas at breakfast and wine with dinner, frozen drinks by the pool and soda in between without a concern for the bill at the end.
