  1. Does any know when the promo for NCL will end?

I keep getting email from travel agency sites that the promo has been extended. I'm presently in the mix of doing a group booking for my Dad's 80th B'day that I'm hoping to have in place by next Monday.

  2. an experienced cruiser would never judge an entire cruise line based on the oldest ship in the fleet. With 26plus cruises under our belt we've sailed the oldest to the lastest & greatest on ncl, carnival, disney, royal caribbean and princess.

We love the sky. We're sailing her again in may. With the udp we only have dinner at cagneys and have enjoyed wonderful meals and service. In june and nobember we're sailing the getaway with the entire family. We never had a bad experience on any ship old or new. We know what to expect from each.

  3. Great to hear! We will be on the Sky in March and can't wait! It will be our 5 yo DS's first cruise, so we wanted to start small. Gives you a better appreciation for the bigger, newer ships, IMHO. ;) If we are safe, decently warm, comfortable, not at work, and watching a beautiful view, I'm a happy gal. :D

I wish we had a 'LIKE' button :D That is how I feel, no work, no cleaning and no cooking!!!

  4. I sailed on the Sky in September of 2013 in a balcony cabin. The restroom was small and so was the shower. I was stunned when I saw how small the shower was but I found it be okay. For this to be balcony there was not much room for just (2) of us to move around freely but we managed pretty well.

Yes, the ship is old but we wound up having new fun :) This was my first time sailing with NCL and I was amazed by things that came way. First, we received an invite to the Officers Dinner, where the wine glasses were never half full, met some great people and had a well timed served dinner. Next, I received a complimentary bottle of wine and truffles, chocolate covered strawberries and shaved dark chocolate delivered to our cabin twice :) Our room attendant remembered my name and I did good in the casino that I almost won back our cruise fare!! We attended the White Hot Party (now the Glow/80's party) and had a blast dancing like no one was watching. Getting a lounge chair by the pool was not hard to find and the drinks were excellent (IMO) and I loved the crepes at the buffet. The crew was always cleaning and liked how they directed people to sanitize their hands before entering the buffet area.

Would I go back on the Sky? Yes!!!! The Sky does not offer the bells and whistles of it's sister ships but a good time can be had by those that easy to please. Sometimes one just need a quick get away and they offer 3-4 sailings which can take the edge off one's busy life.

  5. Norwegian Cruise Line is adjusting its daily service charges, effective for all sailings that begin on March 1, 2015. The new rates are:

$12.95 per guest per day for any category up to a Mini-Suite stateroom.

$14.95 per guest per day for any suite category.

Guests who have previously booked a cruise and are sailing after March 1, 2015, or who are planning to book a cruise now through February 28, 2015, can choose to pre–pay their service charges at the current rate by February 28, 2015. Guests with existing cruise reservations who have already pre–paid their service charges at the current rate will not be affected.

Norwegian’s daily service charges, which were last adjusted in 2009, make it easy for guests to provide gratuities to key onboard staff who provide superior guest service during the cruise, including their room steward, restaurant servers and behind–the–scenes support staff. Guests who are sailing in Suite categories also receive the services of a concierge, butler and dedicated wait staff.

Thank you for your continued support,

Thank you for this detailed information.

  6. I don't really see this as being an issue.

First -- the vast majority of cruisers will pick the UBP as it is a much greater value, and the majority of people do drink while on vacation.

Second -- I would wager that out of those who do not take the UBP, in the original Freestyle choice program more would take the $200 OBC over the $238 value of UDP, as to not feel they need to eat in a specialty every night to get there moneys worth. (unless it is a cabin with more than 2).

I for one still do not foresee the Specialties being booked solid or anywhere near capacity (cept Teppanyaki) for the majority of the time.

I agree with you. If I had a too choose between the UDP and the UBP, hands down my choice would be the UBP. All three offers are included in my booking since I'm splurging and staying in Haven.

I do not think that NCL will sacrifice quality over quantity for the specialty dinning rooms. We, are the consumers that helps keep them "floating". There have been many positive reviews about their cover charge restaurants.

  7. The rolls are served from 12-2 on deck at the water front/ocean blue counter service..from what I have figured out from reading the boards and the NCL web site.

According to the dailies, Ocean Blue on the Waterfront is only open from 12-2 on sea days. It is an a la carte restaurant, but if you have the UBP you get 20% off.

Great information. I will be in the Haven and did read somewhere that with the UBP receive a 20% off when dining in a restaurant that outside of the choices included with the UBP.

Lobster Rolls :) Yum! The last one I had was in Martha's Vineyard last summer.

Thanks for the heads up :)

  8. I booked a family suite in the Haven and the AARP discount was combined with my latitudes discount. When I checked my booking on NCL it showed $300 in OBC, $150 Latitudes non-refundable, non transferable (which will be on my account since I was the only one in our group that has a latitudes number) $150 in OBC and on top of that we have the promo packing that includes UDP and dining package. My TA is giving us $250 in additional OBC for a total of $550 for the Haven. Did not include the $150 in this total due to the $150 being non-transferable to share with my suite mates.

I was shocked when I saw the $150 OBC in addition to the package deal promo for booking the Haven. Very good deal. Deposit was made and we have a nice amount of time to pay off this booking :)

  9. The Sky was my first real cruise aside from one I did many moons ago to experience being on a ship.

I had a great time and booked a balcony and enjoyed it every single day. We always found ways to entertain ourselves at night. The White Hot party was fun, we danced the night away at the club and I did well in the casino.

What made this cruise special was an invite we received to attend the Officers Dinner where the wine was unlimited. We met some really nice people from all walks of life. My TA is spectacular and added more OBC as an addition surprise, I received a complementary bottle of wine and plate of chocolate cover strawberries courtesy of NCL.

For a first time cruiser this pulled. I just booked another cruise on the Getaway and will be staying in the Haven for October 2016 :)

Thanks for bringing some sunshine to the Sky so others can view her in a positive light. I want to sail on her again next July or August of 2016 for a group cruise for my young at heart, cruise lover and dancing machine Father who will be celebrating 80 years young.

  10. 1. Bring a highlighter for FunTimes and sticky notes for room steward.

    2. Pack a small laundry bag & pods, DH is planning to wash and wear

    3. Purchase Photos on the last day

    4. Eat breakfast, lunch and dinner in the MDR as much as possible

    5. Bring my own wine

    6. Attend the chocolate affair and Auction for FREE drink:rolleyes:

    7. Set alarm to see the sunrise while drinking coffee on the balcony

    8. Be more rested for planned excursions

    9. Eat at the steakhouse on the first night of the cruise.

    I think that is it:)

  11. So they are giving you $25 instead of the $50? If you are booked with the ES rate or before final payment, I would ask your TA why they don't give you the full $50?

This should help to answer your question :)

Contacted my TA and told her about the OBC for $50 that was not offered since I booked early. Received an email telling me she will add and additional $25 to my OBC to my present $50 offered by her, therefore, giving me $75 in OBC.

Can I contact Carnival although my booking is with TA to see if I can get this $50 directly from CC? Where can I find this form on their website? Just tried and the site is not working properly again!

    Thanks in advance.

  12. if you used a TA to book you have to do everything through the TA. Carnival won't talk to you directly.

Thank you :) I guess getting an additional $25 from TA will have to do for now and it is better than getting nothing :)

  14. My very first cruise which was so long ago that I cannot remember what year was porthole. Second cruise was a balcony on the NCL Sky in September of 2013 and we received a nice price drop and additional OBC so that was worth it for us. Third cruise on Carnival forward on Rivera deck with a port hole. There was a nice amount of space due to the position of the beds which was L shape. Future cruise is a balcony on the Carnival Liberty for 7 days. This will be Hubby's first cruise and I want to create an experience for him.

We are planning to book another cruise while on board and it will be an inside cabin. That way we can cruise more!
