  1. Just off independence - nothing last two cruises this year and on last night these arrive in our cabin. 1933517d44b6d893bc8e4e9bb9b154ff.jpg

This was only a four night mini break but been on longer trips and not got anything.

There is no rhyme or reason.

Same cruise as us, no crayons left for our son though

As you say, no rhyme or reason :)

  2. I see that it has been not been stated yet so I"ll be the first ;

They will annoy your fellow passengers .

We met a very nice and quite large American family/party on Liberty in 2013 who wore headsets plugged into their walkie talkies for this very reason.

They got a few strange looks wandering about the ship but who cares I suppose, their holiday.

  3. I guess this is sort of connected (sort of :)), we are just off the Independence today and I was very curious about the wording to the signs to the roped off reserved sun bed area over looking the pool.

On Adventure when we were in a GS it stated something along the lines of "Gold Card holders only" and we met a very nice Pinnacle couple in this area the one day. On IOS the sign stated 'Concierge lounge suite guests only'.

We weren't in a suite this time and we certainly aren't anywhere near Pinnacle, I just think its a shame if the most loyal guests don't get this perk on IOS.

:confused:sorry if the answer to this is really obvious, be kind :)

  4. Thanks everyone for the replies.

It definitely sounds like something I don't want to miss :)

The milkshakes sounds delicious, better step up the exercise routine now!!!

I think we are on the same cruise as you and we will definitely be going to Johnny Rockets, if there's a good crowd in there it's great fun. They had to roll me out of there last time we went :D

  5. I think as has been mentioned before once you are off the ship the Russian immigration have no interest in who is or isn't on a ship sponsored cruise. If you have the paperwork you will be allowed to leave the port.

There certainly isn't any list handed over of cruise ship excursion guests.

What we found on our recent AOS baltic cruise was that RCI struggled with the logistics of the whole thing.

Unlike most other ports nearly everyone on the ship (private or ship tour) wants to get off and at the same time as soon as the doors open. You couple this with one of the only ports where each passenger has to present himself to an immigration officer and its chaotic to say the least)

We heard at dinner that it took some people 2-3 hours to leave the ship the first morning. We just walked off straight away so must have been lucky.

Whatever the hassle involved its a fabulous place to visit.

  6. Where are you seeing this. I have done several mock bookings on both Quantum and Anthem or various dates as well as my actual booking and I do not see the % listed. It just says "note: obstructed view".

Any %'s have as far as I know been given by RCI's reps.

    Hi

View available obstructed balconies to book then there is an option to the right to 'view this stateroom' or something similar which shows its position on the deck plan.

When this window opens its says something like 'stateroom features' and the percentage of obstruction is the second item down from memory.

Its like that on the UK version of the site anyway.

  7. I'm sure that someone in the design team has put notes into the cabin information that only the reps can see that states the amount of obstruction. Given that they have so far only mentioned 50% and 75% they are really generalizing. Your right there is no way the reps would have first hand knowledge and most never will. They are relying on what the system shows.

We booked our obstructed view balcony on the RCI website and each cabin had a percentage assigned to it either 50 or 75%. How accurate this is, anyone guess :)

  8. I think that the Windjammer has a few items every night from the MDR. I have never eaten dinner in the Windjammer but I believe they offer a couple of items that are on the MDR menu.

You could go to the MDR and request a table for two and bring the little guy.

We took our son then 4 years old every night to the MDR on our 12 night Adventure cruise.

It's fair to say it wasn't all plain sailing (no pun intended) but the staff loved having our son there.

  9. We ate every night in the WJ with our then 3 year old on Liberty.

It was a different experience to during the day, the lights were dimmed and quite a nice ambience.

We would have a check of what was on the MDR menu and search them out in the buffet. Most items were there and made it a bit more interesting and different than just a buffet (if you understand what I mean :))

  10. It is the ta that cares about their guests that will do this and their business grows accordingly

I'm curious how this can be the case.

If a US TA has to give away all or most of his commission to get you to book then how is this a long term business model for the TA?

  11. Were you recently in it? I'm going next year on her...BTW, love the N.E.C...great place for a show...been there 4 times...

    Big Al

Yes I was in there for a coffee and it is very nice indeed. It has a very nice outdoor area.

NEC is a great place for concerts and I've seen some top artists there over the years, there is a big casino resort being built next to it as well now if thats your thing.

  12. I will be interested to see how this plays out with the 5 ships in Chinese waters next year, will RCI stick to their global plan or bend to meet Chinese needs?

I'd stick my last pound or dollar on the rules being changed.

There were lots of complaints in the casino on our last Adventure Baltic cruise from us Brits and American guests about the amount of smoking from a dozen or so Chinese guests. We were playing the cent slots and minimum hands and the Chinese guests were playing $200 - 400 dollar a hand. Only one outcome....

  13. I heard a story that an employee (maybe even concierge, not sure) told a suite guest to check to see if their card operates the DL door; evevidently, it worked, implying they had access to both lounges. As you explore the ship on day one, it might be interesting to see if your sons' cards operate the DL door or just the CL.

    Absolutely this!

Our suite key for the CL on our recent AOS cruise also worked for the Diamond Lounge (curiosity got the better of me when walking round the ship very early one morning).

I called in a few times for a coffee during the day and it's a lovely new area on Adventure.

  14. too excited and cant wait

there is 9 of us in total:D:D

sailing on the 20th June on the Italian med 14 nights - only 308 days lol deck 6 and a balcony - took 50% obstructed views but price was really good

    anyone else on this sailing?

We are on the same itinary on 18th July, also in a 50% obstructed due to a good price.

  16. I'm not sure if this is linked to the problem but over here in the UK we are going through a "All inclusive drinks and gratuities" promotion from RCI for all European cruises in summer 2015. It's not actually all inclusive drinks but that's another story....

What it is doing though is sending sales and prices through the roof, my friend who is a TA has never sold so many Royal cruises. If this is being replicated throughout Europe then it will be distorting current prices.
