  1. Exactly. It's all Paddington Bear, "England Bird Watching Guide", black taxi models, etc. It caters to the British crowd, and does not have much ship-related merchandise.

Surely this is catering to the tourist crowd visiting Britain, or at least they think they are.

If you have been to London and especially the West End you will have seen what appears to be every other shop selling red buses, black taxis and Paddington bears at eye watering prices!

I think as someone else pointed out if the British market was being catered for then that would be done with the whole of the promenade devoted to duty free alcohol, cigarettes and hand bags lol

  2. British lines are similar but with a slightly British slant (afternoon tea, curry nights, etc).

    Made me smile :)

Afternoon tea and curry does pretty much sum up us Brits :). Hopefully though we do get a bit of local influence with Royal Caribbean on our cruise to the Baltics in June that you received.

  3. he also said that as a single in the CL no one else had even said hello.

We are barely gold C & A and will only be in the CL by virtue of the GS we have booked so this chaps reception will be positively warm compared to the one we will receive when 'gold status' is revealed. Hope I'm wrong....

  4. The coffee machine went out in the CL the last 3 days so I started going up to the D+ to get my lattes (several times a day) and leave. There was rarely anyone in the lounge and I will add that it was much nicer than the CL. Lots of room and a door led out to the outside. It didn't look like a makeshift bar, either.

    .

This is what I can't understand, the Diamond Lounge appears a much nicer venue in every way (it appears so on Liberty anyway).

I'm not welcome in either venue but if I was id be with the 'normal' Diamonds in my own lounge rather than a small internal room unless I'm missing something

  5. It's difficult to find an RCI smoking thread still open as most have been closed

Not sure if this has been mentioned on here already but I've just read some RCI promo literature on Quantum and it appears there is a change in the policy on smoking on balconies.

Hopefully the link will work but I've copied the bit below about smoking allowed on balconies -

The smoking policy is the same on Quantum of the Seas as it is on all other Royal Caribbean ships. Guests are allowed to smoke cigarettes and cigars in designated areas of the ship.

All of our staterooms are non-smoking. However, guests are allowed to smoke on their balconies

Sorry, didn't notice the date on his flyer from RCI - issued before the policy change.

  8. So who actually believes that the D+ will have access to the CL on Royal Caribbean much longer? I am D+ so I am not hoping this happens I just think it will.

I hope things don't change for the many folks that have attained Diamond and Diamond plus status on RCI.

However, we travelled RCI this summer for the first in 12 years and witnessed what looked like 200 - 300 people in the Diamond lounge actually spilling out in to the Viking Crown lounge each night. We also got chatting to a family in a suite who said that the CL was standing room only at 4.15 every evening due to Diamond plus guests.

Folks have attained this status and are entitled to use the facilities sold to them as a recognition for signing up to the company loyalty programme.

It's clear though that this is a financial and logistical car crash waiting to happen for RCI and they don't seem to know what to do.

We hope to turn Diamond in two years time and it's a bit worrying what benefits will be available

  9. Wow.....

This is the first time I have been able to access anything other than the UK RCI website.

The cost difference is truly shocking, I wish I hadn't checked the cruise we have booked

I suppose you would need an Italian address and credit card to book?

  10. We are taking our kids on their first cruise next year and will be taking a portable door alarm with us.

    http://www.goplanetgo.com/index.php/products/security-travel-door-alarm

It has 2 prongs that you push together and wedge in between the door and the frame. If the door is opened the prongs come apart and it sets the alarm off.

I am hoping my kids won't touch the doors when I ask them not to.....but for piece of mind it will be worth it!

Thank you for this link, we are taking our four year old on a cruise next year and was looking for something like this.

  11. Wearing my Royal British Legion poppy I attend the memorial service in the theatre…. There is a Pastor on board who has been leading services all week. I pay my respects and leave…. It’s a very Christian service and I don’t feel comfortable.

I thought these services were non-denominational, very poor form if you were made to feel uncomfortable for turning up and wanting to pay your respects on Remembrance Sunday. I hope you raised this with someone.

    Great report though.

  12. Would anyone have any idea of the enhancements that will be made during the Apr dry dock? We're excited as we've booked a cruise for May 2014! It seems to be short dry dock and I don't think cabins will be added?

I don't know anything definitive, only what I have picked up here.

It appears AOS is getting a cupcake shop, new Italian restaurant, Diamond lounge and a giant screen on the pool deck.

I'd also expect a general refreshing of carpets and decorations.

There's apparently one or two surprises due as well according to snippets of information posted on here from people who have been on recent cruises bur RCI aren't telling yet.
