  1. When my husband has said he could not decide between two dishes, the waiter has arrived with both dishes. A lesson learnt. We usually order extra chips, as you only tend to get a few. Have also got an extra steak dinner once without ordering.

We usually start the cruise with starter, soup, main, dessert, cheese and biscuits then coffee and chocolates then as the cruise goes by one item is dropped each day and by the end of the cruise, just 2 courses are eaten.

  2. We currently have £1150 worth of vouchers with another £150 coming at the end of the month. As we're booking two cabins it will be two bookings to maximize advantage. Just don't know if we will be using them on RCI or P&O. RCI can't give me fly/cruise prices for next year where as P+O can. Could wait but the whole clubcard thing looks a bit too much in the air at the moment.

I think you will find that there is now a maximum of £810 per booking of vouchers that can be used. You also have to book Select i.e. no late or early saver. Also bookings have to be 6 days or more.

  3. Yes, there are a lot of twos on Aurora and mostly by windows. If you eat at roughly the same time each evening and like a particular table that your husband is happy with, have a word at the desk and ask if that table is available each evening. They like to keep people happy.

  4. Please P&O include tips in the price so no more debates on who gets what and how much. In my opinion the most staff do a wonderful job. We have had great conversations with the cabin stewards over the years, but I would not ask them about tips. I have no problem paying the tips and giving extra where someone has earned it. The staff are frightened to admit to anything regarding tips although on our last cruise the cabin steward mentioned several times about the questionnaire at the end of the cruise, marks had to be excellent or else they would not get their bonus.

  5. I think you usually find cabins on the lower decks sleep up to 4 people with a lot having additional pullman beds so fixed beds are a must, apart from that I don't see any other reason, just that it is what P&O want.

I assume all standard 3ft single beds are the same size throughout the ship.

  6. I understood if you cancelled before the balance was due, you just lost your deposit. Re the £100 charge, did the travel agent think you wanted to change to another cruise in the future, therefore you would expect a £100 extra charge.

  7. I buy these from Tesco at £1 a pack and put them in my gloves and shoes whilst watching football outside. They do work anything from warm to very hot and yes they work for several hours. Are better in mittens than gloves with fingers. Well worth it in my opinion.

  8. Yes we too were on Aurora in June and there were no hand stations at the entrance to the MDR, which we thought was odd.

Once on Ventura we had lunch in the buffet where the staff were squirting gel on your hands prior to being given your tray. I collected my food then went to sit down, I forgot my cutlery and went back and was stopped again to use the hand gel, which although annoying was well enforced.

Also I do wonder at the health questionnaire you have to fill in on embarkation. Would anyone who has recently been feeling unwell actually let on that this is the case?

  9. I understand independence of the seas is having a refit and speculation is that it is having log water fumes added on the top deck. We did enjoy our cruise on indy, although my son who was 17 at the time did not enjoy the teenagers club, there was no structure or timings you just turned up, whereby he loved the teenagers club on P&O.

We are booked to go the Fjords on Azura next June, our first time on her.

  10. I ordered a pint of Peroni Lager in the Crow's Nest on Britannia last week. It arrived in a nice Peroni glass and was rather enjoying it until I happened to notice the mark on the glass was 50 CL.

Without trying to sound petty, this amounts to a 13.6% reduction on a pint as promised on the drinks menu.

When I pay £4.75p for a pint of lager, I expect to receive a pint, not half a litre. If a retail establishment in the UK were to do this they would find themselves on the wrong end of Weights & Measure legislation and liable to be prosecuted.

For the remainder of the cruise when I ordered a Pint of Peroni I requested it to be served in a standard beer glass, some of which incidentally had a pint volume marker and others didn't. I may not have been getting any more beer each time but it did make me feel better.

    Power to the the people!

Thanks for this, I won't tell my husband as he has obviously been swindled for quite a few years now and won't be happy.

  11. It doesn't give too many details away. Looking at the refit on Arcadia, lots of bright colours have been used. Do not think that the Yacht and Compass will go down very well with a new bright colour scheme, but what do I know, suppose they are trying to make it look more modern as seems to be the new trend.

  12. Me too. It does cost a lot to park anywhere, but for peace of mind it is worthwhile. I remember our first cruise my husband was not happy at having to hand the keys over and still isn't entirely sure about it, the first thing he does when returning to the car us to check the mileage.
