  1. Happy Cinco De Mayo

    Loco Unicorn cocktail:

A beautiful pink and blue rainbow is created when Captain Morgan's LocoNut coconut liqueur is blended with two fruity ingredients to make the Loco Unicorn drink. You may think this drink is all about the look with its beautiful blue, pink, and red layers, but it tastes just as good as it looks.
    Ingredients:
    .25 oz. grenadine
    .25 oz. blue curaçao
    6 oz. coconut water
2 oz. captain Morgan Loco Nut

    Directions:
In the glass filled with ice add the coconut water and Captain Morgan LocoNut, then stir until they're blended.
Drizzle the Grenadine in slowly so it falls to the bottom and sits.
Drizzle Curacao in, so it sits on the top.

  3. Rum Runner cocktail:

Like many classic cocktails before it, the Rum Runner is said to have been invented by a bartender simply looking to use up extra ingredients. It’s been claimed to have originated in the early 1970s at the Holiday Isle Tiki Bar (now the Tiki Bar at Postcard Inn), located on Islamorada in the Florida Keys. Bar manager John Elber was allegedly clearing out dead stock to make room for fresh inventory when he improvised the drink by throwing the contents of old liquor bottles into a blender.

Elber named the result—a combination of rum, banana liqueur, blackberry liqueur, grenadine, and tropical fruit juices—the Rum Runner, as a nod to the Florida Keys place in history as an important location in the illegal Prohibition-era alcohol-smuggling trade.
    Ingredients
    1 1/2 parts Cruzan® Coconut Rum
    1 part DeKuyper® Blackberry Brandy
    1 part Pineapple Juice
    1 part Orange Juice
    Splash Grenadine
    Pineapple Wedge

    Instructions
Serve over ice in a hurricane glass. Garnish with a pineapple wedge.

    Smashing Pumpkin cocktail:

While pumpkin isn’t the most commonly used ingredient in bartending, there are a number of cocktails that do utilize falls’s most iconic squash. The Smashing Pumpkin, from bartender James Horn, gets its pumpkin infusion with a homemade lemon-pumpkin soda. Combined with rum and allspice liqueur, two consummate autumnal flavors, the unconventional highball is a fall treat that’s enjoyable year-round.

    Ingredients:

    1 1/2 ounces aged rum
    1/2 ounce allspice liqueur
    3 ounces lemon-pumpkin soda*, chilled *
    Garnish: bay leaf

    Directions:

Add the rum and allspice liqueur to a Collins glass filled with ice.
    Top with the lemon-pumpkin soda.
    Garnish with a bay leaf.
*Lemon-pumpkin soda: Add 12 ounces pumpkin puree (canned, or to make fresh, roast seeded pumpkin at 350° Fahrenheit for 45 minutes and puree in a food processor), 4 ounces freshly squeezed lemon juice and 2 ounces water to a shaker and shake to thoroughly incorporate. Add mixture to a soda siphon and charge with 1 CO2 cartridge.

  9. The French Martini helped to kick off the flavored Martini craze of the 1990s. Featuring vodka, pineapple juice and Chambord, the cocktail was first brought to prominence in the late-1980s when it debuted at the famous New York City restaurant Balthazar. The cocktail is emblematic of the era’s preference for fruity and sweet drinks, especially those with Martini in the name or anything appended with a ’Tini suffix (looking at you, Appletini).

The reason why this Martini is called a “French” Martini is the inclusion of Chambord black raspberry liqueur, which has been produced in France since the 17th century. The Chambord, along with the pineapple juice, adds rich fruit flavor to the drink. When shaken hard with plenty of ice, the pineapple juice—use the freshest you can find—creates a pleasantly creamy mouthfeel and a frothy head.

    Ingrediens:

    2 oz. vodka
1/4 oz. Chambord black raspberry liqueur
    1 3/4 oz. pineapple juice

    Directions:

Add the vodka, Chambord and pineapple juice into a shaker with ice and shake until well-chilled.  Fine-strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

Thanks to all for the lovely birthday wishes for DN Lisa!  She is such a sweetheart, and told me she is on her way to the park to play with Elliott Rose and momma Jordan today.  What could be better?

Roy @rafinmd thanks so much for posting your photos of unusual spots in Sydney.  The Opera House, theaters and the camping.  We need to see more of your photos of port of the day.

Dixie @summer slope don't worry about it the drink.  We're fine with both drinks!  Are you and George almost packed for your Disney cruise?

Terri @Cruzin Terri thanks for posting the whole poem by Longsworth about Paul Revere.  I don't think I've ever read the whole thing before.  Pretty impressive!

Edited to say:  Should have mentioned, DS Linda is doing okay.  Had more pain last night than the night before but got some sleep.  She agrees she has a high tolerance for pain. She says it usually gets worse before it gets better.  She is doing absolutely nothing today which sounds good to me.

    Working on it Sandi.
