  1. We were on a Halloween cruise in 2013 on Carnival, we loved it!!

I would say more than 50% of the people had costumes. They had a costume contest for the adults (I don't remember what the prizes were), special activities for the kids on board, and pretty cool deserts in the MDR. I know someone else mentioned scary movies, I don't remember what they showed, but I am sure that they did.

We all brought/wore costumes (me, hubby, two daughters 12 & 10 at the time)...no pic of hubby, but he was a caveman, LOL.

  2. And if you do get a cabana, please don't put a chair out blocking a public path to the beach like the other poster. You have rented a cabana, not the entire beach.

We blocked the path that led into our cabana (did you actually read the entire post, or just take out what you felt you could bash?) because people were walking into our cabana! When two men came and stopped on our little porch and were chatting away without a care in the world, well that was when decided it might be a good idea to give people the idea that we didn't purchase the cabana for their personal use. ;)

  3. We had cabana #1, and we loved it...additional snacks, drinks, nice lounge chairs, A/C, snorkel gear, floating mats, ceiling fan!!! It was worth every penny! However the "path" from behind led to our cabana and people were walking through...no big deal as we quickly took care of this by taking a lounge chair from the beach and putting it across the path and blocked it off. I believe that cabana #1 is the wheelchair accessible one and that is why the path was there. We wanted to get one of the higher number cabanas, but when we boarded the ship, #1 was the last one available.

If you do a search, either on these boards or the web, you can find a map of the cabanas. Unless you are the loud music party type, you do not want one of the cabanas that are close to the pirate ship bar!

If the cabanas show sold out on the website for your cruise, go back a few times a day to see if someone cancels, that is how I was able to book ours!

  4. I know this is an older thread, but wanted to add an additional question and hoping someone would know the answer...

I was looking at booking Carnival Vista for Dec 2016, it is a Christmas cruise. Would that matter because it is over Christmas and because it is a brand new ship (regarding final payment due)? I actually called Carnival, and they wanted my name, ship, sail date, etc and I just didn't want to sit on the phone and go through all of that right now.

I would love to be able to secure a cabin with a deposit and not have to worry about owing the full payment anytime soon.

  5. where are you cruising to? Since some of the islands are US territories, you can call and/or text at your regular rate. Check with your phone carrier. We have Verizon, and I know we could text in St. Thomas with no extra charges, and I think in San Juan PR we could text with no extra charges, calls were maybe $1.99 a minute (not 100% sure about that). But anyway, it's best to call your provider. Good luck!!

  6. We will be sailing for our first time on RC and I was wondering about the "dress code". I have been told by some that it is more casual than Carnival....any thoughts? We would never go into the MDR in casual shorts, t-shirts, ball caps, etc. (it makes me cringe to see that).

When we cruised Carnival on non-formal evenings hubby would wear khaki's and a collared shirt, I usually went with "dressy" capri pants or a skirt and a nice blouse.

    Thanks!!

  7. Thank you so much for posting those ship pics and the Cruise Compass!! I was especially happy to see the Teen Activities...will be cruising in November with my 14 & 12 year olds. This is our first time on RC, it seems the teen activities and schedules are similar to Carnival.

  8. I saw another post about this. People are thinking that RCI is trying to get people away from the specific seating times and it has something to do with the pre-paid gratuities. Our upcoming cruise we couldn't get the early seating or My Time dining and have the 8pm seating (that is pretty late for us so we are hoping that we are able to change it closer to our sail date!)

  9. My family and I leave our passports on the ship. My husband and I just take our driver's license as our photo ID (kids don't need ID's). We might have taken a copy of our passports with us, but I know we didn't take the original off of the ship.

I think it's personal preference. You would never get truly "stuck" without a way home, but then being stuck somewhere with a beautiful beach and lots of sunshine might not be so bad!! ;)

  10. The cabin that I just booked is on deck 3 (about the 6th or 7th cabin from the end of the hallway Forward). I was more concerned about feeling the motion of the boat :D as opposed to the noise, (not the gentle rocking that is soothing when you sleep). I don't mind the early morning "anchor dropping wake up call", as we like to get up and get moving early.

I'm really excited, it's will be my family's first time on RC and we are looking forward to it. And since it's a Thanksgiving cruise, I don't have to be concerned with eating my mother-in-law's AWFUL cooking. (I don't just say that, the woman can't make mashed potatoes!!)

  11. Interesting info here on the dining times.....

I just booked our cruise for the week of Thanksgiving (of course that is a highly traveled week) and was not able to get My Time Dining or Early Seating for dinner. I had to choose the 8pm (way to late for us) and then put on the wait list for My Time. We really enjoy eating in the MDR, and really hoping we can get a seat for the early seating!

  12. We went to Sapphire beach (me, hubby, and two daughters). I really enjoyed it! It was not crowded at all, the beach and water were very nice!! We were able to order a pizza for $20 and have it delivered right to us on the beach, and it was good pizza. They have snorkel equipment for rent and a snack bar as well. We did snorkel, but didn't go out all that far so didn't see too much.

  13. Sailing on Carnival Breeze from Miami in October. I was convinced I would be flying London to Miami on British Airways. Today I found flights to Fort Lauderdale $1150 US cheaper it will mean flying in 2 days before the cruise but I figure even with an extra night hotel cost the saving is still substantial. So I have questions.

    1. Is it easy to get from a Fort Lauderdale Hotel to PoM? Is it expensive?

    2. Would you fly into Fort Lauderdale is sailing from Miami for that kind of saving?

    TIA

    Jo

We were on a cruise just a few weeks back, sailed out of Miami, flew into Fort Lauderdale. We flew in same day so used Carnival's shuttle service, not sure how much a cab would be. I don't know the price of a cab from Fort Lauderdale to Miami, but your hotel may provide a free shuttle to the airport where you can use Carnival's shuttle.

  14. Also I have never seen a cruise where the waiters cut up the steaks for the kids. This happened on both Disney cruises, and I saw them doing it for most of the kids with steak.

We had an awesome server on the Carnival Glory who cut our daughters' steak!! One evening my daughter was sitting there after her dinner was served and not touching her food, I asked her if everything was okay, she said "Yes, I am just waiting for them to come and cut my steak for me". LOL.
