SIntra park in Portugal!
You got it!
It is the most schizophrenic architecture I've seen in a while. Technically the building is Pena Palace. It was a chapel from the middle ages, then a convent was built in the early 1500's but was damaged in the 1700's by lightning and an earthquake. Construction began to make it a palace mid 1800's. It was used less than 100 years before the monarchy fell and it became state property and a park.

Not France. Not even a harbor. It’s an inland destination. It’s a very popular tourist destination in that region.

Church of Savior on the Spilled Blood/Church of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, St. Petersburg. Neva river.
You got it. Your turn.
I felt the same about European churches. No more for me unless there is something truly unusual inside.

I was Russia inspired. It is a gorgeous building. I could have spent all day chasing light and taking pictures.

Well, I haven't been, so was relying on google image searches. From the first picture, I couldn't tell there was anything else. The dogs were a good clue. You can specify anything you want, it's your picture. 🙂

I loved these dogs. I heard that they stopped letting them ride the subway. I haven't kept up to see where it stand snow.
I just loved the thought that Ralph, Bob and Ivan would hang out together on Red Square and then say "catch you tomorrow, same place, ok?".... They are great dogs.
They're probably playing chess together in their heads, like old men at the park.

Ah, Spasskaya Tower? Does that qualify as it's own building?

Grand Kremlin Palace?

Ha! I'd actually re-opened the post to add the bit about the metro, or it would have been there for you to see already. Quite the survival skill for them!

That's a piece of the Kremlin wall, Moscow.
And perhaps those dogs know how to ride the subway. 🙂

I have no idea about the architecture, but isn't it Moscow that has all the stray dogs?
-
Yes, those "backward" gargoyles would catch my eye, too. I was going to guess Rhine, but no idea beyond that.

Correct! Right, a kangaroo?? You don't see that in your usual European sculptures.
It's part of a 6 piece collection commissioned from 6 different artists for the 1878 World's Fair representing the continents. She is L'Oceania (Australia.) All 6 had been on display along the Trocadero until 1937, then disappeared. In 1963 were discovered in a dump (!). They were rescued and installed eventually at the Musee d'Orsay, at least all according to this website. Scroll to the bottom and you can see each statue in detail.

It could be a sheep fleece. I actually can not find a lot of specific details regarding this, though it is displayed in a prominent place, in a collection of six, made to represent a whole.
-
Definitely a French influence...

You're on the right track, kind of. Not anything to do with North America.

I'll second Portugal as a great destination. We did a week near Lisbon and a week on Madeira. Amazing. It really was a country I hadn't given much thought to but my travel buddy friend suggested it. I would strongly recommend at least a few days on Madeira. It's easy to get to from Lisbon, and like nowhere else I've ever been. I'm probably repeating myself, also, since I can't stop singing it's praises.
