  1. Hi pawzz51,

l also have an autoimmune disease (MS) and have mobility issues.  About 5-6 years ago I started using a cane and have graduated to using a rollator around home and for walking short distances.  At times I use a scooter and a wheelchair.  I have to admit that each new piece of equipment was hard for me to accept using.  I was physically ready for new equipment long before I was emotionally ready.  I suggest that you swallow your pride (something that physically challenged persons do quite a bit) and ask for all the assistance you need.  Gangways can be long and steep.  Corridors can be long, elevator waits can be long. We bring our own wheelchair so that it is always ready in case of fatigue setting in. Save your energy for fun.

  2. I also wish that cruisers would make more of an effort to meet the dress suggestions put forth by the cruise line, however it doesn't affect my dining enjoyment at all.  I am dismayed by the lack of table manners exhibited by MDR diners.  On my last two cruises I witnessed people lowering their heads toward the table and shoveling food into their mouths and jamming rolls into their mouths.  Elbows were all over the table.  I understand that manners are something that are taught and can't be suggested by a cruise line, but again it is a lack of effort by the vacationer.  I suppose it is just another thing that I will have to overlook if I want to continue mainline cruising.

  3. I've done the Allure twice with my husband and both times had my wheelchair. I would often times walk the long corridor from our stateroom to the elevators. That was because there would be cleaning carts in the way..My husband pushed the wheelchair then I would sit down and he would push me to our destination. The ship is huge.

  4. I'm questioning the ability of many of these posters to analyze data/information in an unbiased or nonpartisan manner. That short article presents very little information to consider yet, what appears to be, many individuals digging in their heels and defend their position. Sign of the times.

  5. I'm looking for suggestions for transportation that includes husband and myself, folding wheelchair, one large suitcase and 1 large duffle bag with a shoulder strap. We arrive at Newark Liberty at 4:15 on Wednesday 8/22 United Airlines, operated by Republic airlines. Need shuttle/taxi to Marriott Newark Liberty. Then we will need a ride to Cape Liberty the following morning and back to the airport after the cruise, Saturday 9/1, Delta Airlines. Cost is always a consideration, but ease of travel in most important. My husband will push me in the wheelchair and I will roll the suitcase.

    Thanks

  6. I used a transport chair on our last Allure of the Seas cruise. It didn't work on the gangway ramp on boarding day. The bumps were too big while turning to access each ramp. I ended up just using the chair as a rollator and made it up that way. Otherwise the chair worked well for me. I was with my husband most of the time and he could easily maneuver the chair as needed. We didn't get off the ship, so I'm not sure how well that would go. But the few times that I have used the chair outside on sidewalks and uneven pavement, it hasn't gone very well. This next trip on Allure (leaving 3/25!) I am taking my wheelchair, but my walking has deteriorated quite a bit since then. I considered renting a scooter, but my head doesn't seem to be ready for that step.

  7. I'm wondering what is the status of capris/cropped pants. I see some offered in the stores, but not to the extent of a few years ago. And what I do see are the legging type, not the jeans type that I used to wear.

    Thank you,

  8. I've been on NS since 7/15 and have lost 36 lbs. We're cruising in January and I should be close to my goal. I absolutely love this plan. I never knew that it could be so easy to lose weight. Be sure to stick to the plan exactly and drink lots of water. The water thing is very important, i don't get it.
