  1. FYI. Per a notification straight from CCL, the Valor will start itineraries from "Port Canaveral starting May 8, 2016, after her 15 day scheduled dry dock."

I was told yesterday by carnival travel guy that Valor was going to dry dock Sept this year??/ I am really confused no. we were booked on the Breeze and got moved to Splendor which isn't gonna happen!
  2. The Magic is being moved to Port Canaveral effective May 8, 2016 thru Nov. 20, 2016

I'm confused. How does it effect your sailing if you're not leaving until October 2016? What port are you sailing out of? I assumed it was Port Canaveral but I didn't think the Magic was sailing from Port Canaveral.

  4. The whited out space next door is actually part of your suite.

So I upgraded us yesterday to an OS 7270. It is an accessible cabin so is supposed to be very large, balcony of 110 sq feet! My question is this: if you look at deck plans, to the right of 7270 is empty space. Anyone have any clue what this is??
  5. I was on the Liberty 11/28/2014 sailing and they had it one morning. I happened to go on Lido deck early - around 7am and they were set-up. I very seldom get up on deck that early and was surprised to see them. Don't remember which day of cruise it was.

I have yet to see this! We were on glory last week and stayed on the lido so we're right there. Maybe not all ships do this? Didn't see it on the Liberty last year either.
  6. I don't have the names but there are two other independent auto rental stalls next to and across from Alamo near the exit of the Port.

I have rented from them and Alamo over the last 6 years or so. Except when I booked Alamo, I did not reserve ahead of time. I tried to get off the ship early and went straight to them and booked right there on the spot.

One time I got a regular jeep and another time got a Jeep Wrangler. They can run out quickly.

  7. To clarify, Princess uses "glass" wine glasses for the tasting with a shot glass as gift at the end. The changes have been whether the shot glass is made from glass or plastic or whether they are coming out with a special shot glass commemorating 50 years.

Never been to a wine tasting on Princess (but we have done stamtisch), but shot glasses? Really? Been to many wine tastings but never seen them use shot glasses.
  8. I have seen people walk in with drink in hand and sit down and get the munchies offered. I noticed one couple where she had a can of coke and he had a Dos Equis. They sat down next to us and we had a delightful conversation. They were Elite members and had brought the items from their Elite bar set-up. All waiter did was bring her a glass of ice and put down napkins for them.

Just for reference - Ruby - Jan 2014 - Let us switch the $5 drinks - Dec 2014 Did NOT let us switch drinks.

  9. Carnival Liberty

I attended a CC event back on 11/28/2014 on the CCL Liberty. While there was no free cocktail hour this is what we did. We had a CC member set-up a cocktail hour prior to sail-date that costs us $20 per person. (Actually 18.75 but rounded off for additional gag gifts). We got to vote on 3 drinks from a list prior to sail-date and the bartender had unlimited amounts of those drinks plus soft drinks. The cruise director's assistant gave us either 2 or 3 bottles of champagne and a golden ship on the stick. Forget which amount. These were given out as door prizes. It was held as a private event in the piano bar and we had a lot of fun. They also had dry goods - peanuts/chips etc.

    Ruby Princess

Attended CC event on the 12/13/2014 cruise. Had over 60 ppl attend and it was held as a private event. Princess provided pastries, coffee, juices plus several officers including the Captain Romano. If we wanted alcoholic drinks that was extra.

  10. Actually, TA's only get paid a commission on part of the total fare. TA's are paid only on the base fare which is MUCH less than the total fare. They are not paid commission on taxes/port fees and what are called NCF's (Non-commissionable fares). The commission rate also varies depending on the volume the agent/agency does. If the fares are in the $500 range for a 7 day cruise the NCF's/taxes can be over half of that fare.

  11. I have been witness to the first night on-board discount of 10% available to anyone on purchases totaling $100 or more in the boutiques. This is the way it works: Take items totaling $100 or more to check-out. They automatically deduct the 10%. THEN they apply the 10% Elite discount to that balance. So, it is not actually a full 20% off the original purchase price however still a nice discount. There may be a second night also but I have not been privy to that.

Thanks for all of your responses.

What this extra 10% everyone's talking? Is it in the little booklet you get when you first get to your cabin? Also, some have mentioned that the first 2 days of cruising there is a discount.

  12. Just watched both the Regal and Royal sail out of Port Everglades blowing their horns to the Love Boat theme. Very cool and a lot of fun. I also agree that it is VERY ICONIC and very special to me.

  13. I am a 4 star Mariner with HAL and Elite with Princess. My 2014 cruises included both lines in 4 cruises and 3 different ships (2 HAL and 2 Princess) I do not book full suites but usually mini-suites or balconies. I prefer 7 to 10 day cruises. While I do like HAL room service much more than Princess I enjoy the much larger variety of food items overall in the dining rooms and buffets. The music venues are much more varied and include 3 major production shows per 7 day sailings on Princess. Lately, Princess seems to be bucking the trend of cost-cutting and are actually adding more entertainment venues as time goes on. The service in the dining rooms were excellent on both cruise lines. For me HAL has some better Caribbean itineraries vs. Princess.

I damaged a belt on HAL and they somehow repaired it. On Princess a gentleman stepped on my white shoes and scuffed them badly. Even though as an Elite I get shoe shining on Princess (As does HAL) I did not turn them in and had left them by my bed. Upon return from being out for the day I returned and saw that my shoes had been cleaned and polished. I asked my Princess cabin steward about it and he said that he saw the shoes and took the initiative to clean them. This is above and beyond my expectations.

In summary, I do not consider HAL a step up from Princess because I am still seeing cutbacks that affect me on every HAL cruise. With that said there are several things that HAL does differently that are nice. However, I like Princess just as much.

  14. Well, that is odd. You may work at a cruise port but I have taken a pair of small scissors AND a small paring knife on at least 20 cruises in my carry-on baggage and NEVER been stopped or even questioned. Just returned from cruise on 11/28 on CCL out of Port Canaveral and 12/13 sailing on Princess out of Port Everglades.

You can not take and use a knife of any sort on to the ship. You can't even bring scissors and no this is not a guess, I work at a cruise port.
  15. Technically what you were told is the proper procedure and "by the book". Call back and try again. If that does not work have the members who booked through the TA contact CCL and get it straightened out.

i usually have been able to take care of the linking bookings for whoever is traveling with us. but I just called and was told that I needed not only the other cabin's booking number, but also their pin # and because the other cabin was booked thru a travel agent, carnival could not link it for us, even tho she was looking at the bookings on her computer. :( should I call again and try someone else or is this new. just cruised last month and did it for some last minute bookings?? thanks in advance for anyone's input.
  16. I just cruised on the Liberty in an OS - Ocean Suite. Two of their standard twin beds were in my suite.

Thanks, everyone! When I was reading the cabin descriptions here:

    http://www.icruise.com/ships/carnival-cruises-carnival-splendor-staterooms.html

It suggests the suite beds cannot be separated. For regular rooms (balcony/OV/inside) it says "two twin beds that convert to a queen-sized bed", whereas for the suites it simply says "king-sized bed", so it left my wondering.

So in essense, the suites simply have wider twin beds that can combine to form a single king if needed, I guess. That would be great!
