  1. We will disembark our cruise in Seward in July and plan to do sightseeing in the area for that day (6 adults and 5 kids ages 5-11). We won't have a car and plan to eat dinner in town. Both the Harbor 360 and the Breeze Inn are available for the night we need. Any reason to choose one over the other? The Breeze Inn is cheaper.

Thank you. That looks good and in the meantime I've communicated with John and Marilyn from Wilderness Islands Tours which would be a good option since there is not an age restriction and all 11 of us can go together in their 13-passenger van. https://www.wildernessislandtoursak.com

  3. We are considering the Spasski River Valley, Wildlife & Bear Search in Icy Strait Point for the family members that are 8 and older on July 15.  It is 2.5 hours. I only see it offered through the cruise line, though I'd like to find options elsewhere. Anyone with knowledge of this excursion?

And suggestions for something for the 5 and 7 year olds to do with Nana while the others do the bear search?

  4. We have purchased the beverage package and some excursions for our adult kids for our July 2024 cruise to give as their Christmas gift. I'd like to package it creatively since it's really just pieces of paper with the information...and an Etsy ornament with our ship and cruise date on it. If budget were unlimited I could add nice binoculars, SmartWool socks etc. but I've hit my spending limit. So I'm looking for a way to add inexpensively to the gift...I picked up free AK maps at AAA and bought some travel sunscreen. They are all 40+ or close to it and have the products they like for skin and hair so I don't want to go that direction. Any ideas for inexpensive extras and/or fun ways to package it all? Thanks so much!

I know you asked about craft beer in Juneau but you should know that Victoria is a haven for craft beer lovers.

Next trip...we don't go to Victoria on this cruise.

You are not mistaken. This thread covers more than just the Blue Bus.

For others interested, I booked the shuttle to the glacier with Juneau Tours. Evidently there is no longer the $45 shuttle. We aren't interested in the taxi, rental car or city bus so this was the best option for us. They are running a special with 10% off for 2024 with the code EARLYBIRD24 if booked this year.

  7. We have one day in Juneau in July 2024 on a RCCL cruise ship stop (1:00-10:00). We have an excursion planned with time at the end. Some people in our family enjoy local craft beers. Is there a particular one you'd recommend that also has good food and is suitable for kids (5-11)?

  8. I am exploring options for getting to the glacier and have appreciated your help in the questions I've posed here. Local bus plus walking is not an option for our group.

I reached out to a tour provider who responded the info below. Is it already known that there won't be local dock shuttles in 2024? I'm assuming he/she is correct but wanted to double check.

Our company is in fact the one you would work with to DIY. The problem is that due to limited permits at the park, the price has gone up, there is no longer a $45 shuttle. We are the least expensive way to get a group to the park, your only other options are taxi or car rental. The cruise line offers a shuttle to the glacier park for double what we charge.

  9. Ok I understand doing it on our own and we definitely can- but am I mistaken about this past summer that people were not able to get tickets to the visitor center or tours were cancelled or something? I am such a "reserve in advance" person that I don't want to get there and come up empty - especially with 5 kids in tow.

  10. The cruise line does not offer what I am interested in for Mendenhall Glacier for July 2024. I would like a shuttle to the visitor center (for 11 people) with time to take the Nugget Falls Hike on our own. Juneau Tours offers this for about $900 for all 11 of us. Other options you are familiar with? I read so much about passes not being available going the taxi route this past summer. I don't want to get to Juneau and find out we cannot get to the visitor center.

  11. Have a look at Tours by Local dot com. I have communicated with the guide Ryan K and he would have been happy to transport our family of 11 pls luggage from Seward to ANC with stops along the way. But we need the service on July 20 and he is not available July 20-27. So worth checking him out. You can message him directly through the Tours by Locals website.

it went down about a month ago to $338.  Keep checking.

I did see that very short sale. But they won't adjust prices - I'd have to cancel and rebook and I know it typically sells out so what if I cancel and then can't get it rebooked even if I do it immediately? I asked my TA is she could get a price adjustment through Royal but she was told no.

  13. RCCL - July 12, 2024 - $358 for adults and $245 for kids on a 10% off sale. I booked and hoping price drops, but then I'd have to cancel and rebook to get better price and hate to risk doing that if it is sold out by the time of the future sale. But yikes - expensive!

  14. Maybe a bit of a scavenger hunt or guessing game with gifts revealed...Beverage package based on their drink interests, an excursion (I splurged and got everyone the Hubbard Glacier Wilderness Explorer excursion), winter blanket for their cabin if your cruise line offers it, a pair of nice binoculars, SmartWool socks. Amazon has some plastic tags for the cruise luggage tickets specific to your cruise line. Look on Etsy for cruise reveal ideas.

  15. I am trying to keep on top of the ever-changing pricing on beverage packages so I can cancel and rebook mine if there is a price drop. Right now our sailing has 20% off making the sale price $79.99 per day. Do I add 18% for gratuities to this making the cost approximately $94 per day x 7 days = $658? I am not able to do a mock purchase and add it to my cart since I have already purchased it several months ago.
