  1. 7 day cruise Vancouver to Seward. If I don’t choose to purchase The Key, what are my options for onboard Internet? Cost per day and quality of service? Thanks!
  2. Not adventurous enough for cold water snorkeling lol!
  3. We will be on a RCCL cruise July 12-19, 2024. 6 adults and 5 children who will be ages 5-11 at the time of the cruise. Each family is researching what they would like to do at each port. (Juneau, Icy Strait Point, Sitka and Skagway). I am hoping to find at least excursion we can all do together. No one is interested in flight seeing. I thought about whale watching in Juneau through Harv and Marv as we can get a private boat, but sea sickness is an issue for some so not sure on that. Any suggestions for a tour that would especially be fun in general for fairly adventurous and wildlife loving kids, such as the White Pass Railway? Or? And finally, is there a port that lends itself to not doing an excursion but staying in the town? In 2015 my husband and I rented an SUV for the day in Skagway which was fun but probably wouldn't be as fun with kids. Thanks for advice.
  4. Yes, my TA said I could book at the current price and cancel and rebook if something better comes along. But this far our I may wait a bit. Thanks for advice.
  5. I saw in my online RCCL account that I can now purchase a beverage package at a pre-cruise savings of 20% off. Shore excursion are being offered at 10% off, though I usually book my own, not through the cruise line. Is 20% off typically the best deal on beverage packages that will be offered prior to sailing? With the cruise still 16 months away I'm sundering if the price typically goes up closer to the cruise?
  6. What do you mean I don't have a lot of time to choose a traditional dining time? I just booked our cruise a few weeks ago on the day it opened for booking and it isn't until July 2024. I can check with my TA to see. Our adult kids and the grandkids don't consider dinner with the family "getting stuck" with us LOL. Luckily not our experience!
  7. When we went to Alaska about 5 years ago we booked all of our own tours locally in advance. Not only did it save money but the groups were small. There was never an issue getting back to the ship in time. We read reviews carefully and booked accordingly. Not everyone is comfortable doing this but in 6+ cruises I have only booked a cruise ship's tour one time because of the particular excursion and the tightness of schedule in getting back to the ship in time. We are treating the family to Alaska in 2024 and I've already begun to research potential tours.
  8. Ok good to know. I will request a set time rather than MTD.
  9. We booked a cruise for 11 people through our TA and she requested My Time Dining for our group (6 adults and 5 kids ages 5 though 11). I know we have plenty of time to change this is we want but looking for input. The downside of a fixed reservation is on port days...getting back from excursions and ready for dinner. But we likely aren't candidates for a 7:00 or later reservation with ages of the kids. We plan to eat together most nights. Would you advise staying with My Time for flexibility or changing to a fixed time to guarantee we we have 6:00 or so? I haven't cruised since before there was an app and ability to adjust on your own.
  10. I booked a 2024 Alaskan family cruise through a TA. 4 cabins for 11 people and I am paying for the cabins. I have until next week to pay our deposit. Otherwise I'll need to let the cruise go if we aren't 100% sure since the non-refundable deposit is $2750. My question is, since I'd prefer to keep the cabins we reserved and wait until a bit closer to the sailing date to make a final commitment (like July 2023 which would be a year out), is there any kind of CFAR insurance I can get to cover the deposit? The agent said her agency and RCCL only offer cancellation for medical reasons. Thanks for info.
  11. We took a wonderful cruise in 2013 at the end of May. Gorgeous sunny weather, which might not be typical. It was crystal clear at Hubbard Bay. We saw a few whales. We only saw one bear though, on the train on the way to Anchorage. We knew we'd be bit early for bears. Next trip must be July to accommodate grandkids school schedules.
  12. Absolutely can get better information here than calling RCCL directly. Their website does not show any cruises to Alaska for 2024 as of yesterday but I knew you helpful people could assist. Thanks! I am prepared to book the day the cruises are posted so I’ll watch in the coming days.
  13. When can I book an Alaska cruise for 2024?
  14. I want to reserve 4 cabins for a total of 11 people (6 adults and 5 children who will be ages 5 through 11 at the time of the cruise). I know I need to have at least one adult on each cabin reserved. Our plan is to have this configuration: Cabins 1 and 2 (connecting cabins): 2 adults and 3 kids Cabin 3: 2 adults and 2 kids Cabin 4: 2 adults What is the best economical way to place the passengers on the reservation? Or does it matter? Or does it depend on current promotion at time of booking?
