We turned our A/C down very low. Around 16c - we had to ask for extra blankets.
I must admit I prefer to sleep in fresh air but as that was not an option this was the next best thing. I did end up with an Upper Respiratory Tract infection by the last day (which I am convinced was caused by sharing air around tHe ship).

No problems in Australia.

Unfortunately yes it does happen. If a company can fill a boat with a charter they will. Other companies also continue to advertise the dates also. Not sure why but it is quite common.
I do hope you find another cruise to celebrate your anniversary.

Part of my challenge in deciding is that I travel solo and refuse to pay 200%, especially on more expensive trips....
Some of the Scenic boats have one single cabin on them. As they only have one bed I can't see how there would be a supplement.

We have done several back-to-back cruise with Seward as our Intransit day.
If you have booked both Cruises as a Collectors Cruise you will have the same cabin and your ID card will be programed for both cruises
Keep in mind that breakfast will be VERY early in Seward as those leaving on the train to Anchorage are off the ship by 6:30 - 7 AM and the buses leave shortly after that.
So be prepared for an early breakfast that morning no matter what tour you take.
Can you please explain 'if you have booked both Cruises as a Collectors Cruise'
What is a Collectors Cruise and how do you book as a Collectors Cruise?

On Zuiderdam now- boarded in San Diego. Coastal cruise had normal per-minute internet.
Librarian handed us a flier and said that Corporate changed plans effective yesterday:
$9.99 per hour (continuous only)
$34.99 per day (24 hours)
$149.99 Voyage Rate (7 days)
No more worrying about lost minutes
Will be interested to know which grandchild I will have to sell to use internet on a 22day voyage. :D

Tees, shorts, capris, etc are allowed in the MDR and PG at breakfast and lunch. I'm not sure about tank tops, but I would expect them to turn away someone in a bathing suit.
http://www.hollandamerica.com/assets/cruise-vacation-onboard/KBYG.pdf page 8, left column, near bottom. It's the same section that you quoted, but one of us must have an older version! Tasteful printed tees are fine anywhere during the day. I wear them.
Mine was from the FAQ's

Pretty sure they are VB4164 & VB4166 on both the Zuiderdam and Noordam.

Evening dress falls into two distinct categories; Formal or Smart
Casual. Smart Casual can be defined as slacks and sports shirt
or sweater for men and skirt or trousers and sweater or blouse
for women. Printed T-shirts, swimsuits, tank tops and shorts
are not allowed in the restaurants or public areas during the
evening hours.
Jeans are not mentioned, therefore they are allowed. Also note that it says Printed tees are not allowed, therefore solid color are allowed.
The right clothing can make a big difference in the enjoyment of your cruise. First and foremost, dress for comfort. Daily life aboard ship and in ports of call is relaxed and casual. Warmer climates call for clothing made of lightweight, breathable fabrics. For cooler climates, we suggest casual clothes that can be layered easily and possibly a raincoat and waterproof hat or umbrella and gloves. Certain shore excursions may require particular attention to clothing. For example, certain churches or other places of worship may not allow tank tops or short pants. Bring a swimsuit as all of our ships have pools and whirlpools. You may wish to bring more than one outfit for the water. We ask that you wear shoes and a cover-up over a bathing suit when walking through the interior of the ship. If you would like to jog on the sports deck or work out in the fitness center, bring workout gear. Footwear should include comfortable walking shoes for visits ashore and sandals or rubber-soled shoes for strolling on deck.
Evening dress falls into two distinct categories: Formal or Smart Casual. Smart Casual can be defined as slacks and collared shirts for men and casual dresses, slacks and informal evening wear for women. T-shirts, swimsuits, tank tops and shorts are not allowed in the restaurants or public areas during the evening hours. On festive Formal evenings, ladies may wear a suit, cocktail dress, gown or fancy blouse/top with slacks and gentlemen wear a jacket and tie, dark suit or tuxedo. There are approximately two formal nights per week.
In order to complement your fellow guests, Holland America Line asks that you observe the suggested dress code throughout the entire evening.
Formalwear for ladies and gentlemen can be pre-ordered on select cruises by calling Cruiseline Formalwear at 800-551-5091 or make your reservations online. Your formalwear will be in your stateroom when you board.
Just downloaded this from HAL website and it doesn't mention printed T Shirts. Can you tell me where you got your information. My DH has a couple of Tshirts that are printed (tastefully). He likes them - maybe I will have to make him leave them at home. :)

We just returned from a wonderful Mediterranean cruise on Noordam. I am curious as to whether having no trays in the Lido buffet is the norm for HAL, and has . We found that gathering our meals was very time-consuming. With no trays and small plates, multiple trips to various stations were required to put together a meal. Food got cold. This situation extended people's use of table space and thus tables were always hard to come by. Leaving drinks on a table while we got our food didn't always work to hold the table for us.
We opted for breakfast room service on every excursion day so we wouldn't have to deal with this. Room service use was very high on our cruise.
I don't recall Lido food gathering being such a pain on any of our five other cruises. Disney Wonder had trays, but I don't recall the situation on the other cruises. Maybe the others had big plates and that saved the day.
We are planning to buy some trays to take on our October HAL trip.
HAL really needs to rethink this.
Sorry this is OT. A friend who was on this same cruise commented today that the linen in the dining room and cabin were threadbare. How did you find it?
-
Take a serviette with you to carry your plate. Don't like eating hot food off cold plates. :)
-
I have seen just so much waste in the Lido.
I don't mind the small plates. You can have a small tasting of more than one thing.

What is the Persian Garden? Have seen it mentioned on the website but no description of what it actually is.
-
We enjoyed Grouse Mountain on one of our free days in Vancouver.
Leaves and departs from Canada Place.
-
Is this possible on a Macbook Pro?
-
Last year we were sent to the Lido when we boarded the Zuiderdam at the end of May. We were allowed to go to our cabin about 2 hours after boarding, approx. 1.30pm.

I too will be looking for some Scenic Reviews. We are setting off on 17th September from Budapest to Amsterdam on the Jade which has only recently been handed over. Probably on it's 2nd or 3rd sailing now.

I can't see any CQ Cabins that will sleep 4. 'Q' seems to infer Spa Cabins.

This IMO is great advice. I use a nasaline which I liken to a shower for my respiratory system. It's cheap, reusable and non addictive. I travel with it and use it all the time. If I get the crud or grippe as I like to call it I wash the crud away. It helps to prevent the onset of symptoms and lessen the time I have it. When I see the amount of crud it flushes out that I can't blow out I am shocked. Every traveler should have one.
Swiss developed and very efficient.
#whatthepharmacueticalcompaniesdontwantyoutoknow
good side effects- gets rid of post nasal drip, good for allergies and clears ear wax giving you better hearing!
We use normalised saline solution from the pharmacy which is sold for contact lens users. $3 for 500mls. So very cheap. It really works.

Big tick to HAL and very pleased that you are happy with the results. :D

To hijack this thread for a moment. I have a question. How do you pay your home expenses if you are gone 77 or more days? I'm looking at a 28 day cruise and am having problems figuring out how to pay the bills when I'm gone.
I am assuming you mean utilities expenses, power, water, rates, phone etc. In Australia all utility bills can be paid by direct debit from your bank account.
The utility company sends you a form that you can complete, allowing them to debit your account for the amount of your bill.
It is extremely common here. We do not personally pay any bills at all and haven't since about 2007.

I can't believe this thread is still going but that's OK - I personally like the room service Club Sandwiches - my memory is probably slipping but I don't recall it having the third piece of bread. If it does, we always remove it as I agree too much bread in the traditional club sandwich.
It is still going because we are all waiting with bated breath for the end of the story. Lettuce and tomatoes ................

I don't know about Zuiderdam but I think you have it correct for Noordam and
Oosterdam. What your wrote is what I have understood the changes to be.
Yes Sail, Zuiderdam is going to Europe. We are booked 14th April, 2015 22 day Adriatic and Mediterranean Dream.

Nobby, I just looked at your website, in particular your cruise on the Amsterdam to Alaska. Congratulations on such magnificent photos.
Cruise before drydock
in Holland America Line
Posted
OT Sorry.
I have just realised that we are on the first cruise post dry dock.
I am now just as concerned about travelling post dry dock. Will there be any teething problems?
Poor HAL. Will we never be happy. :D
