  1. P. S. I don’t know why Cruise Critic replaced my perfectly harmless words with asterisks, because it just makes them look worse. The word used twice is a synonym for donkey, and the other one is the name of a little blue pill advertised on TV. Just thought I’d let you know.

Thank you for explaining. I had imagined a lot worse.

  2. I wasn't offended, but the couple next to us special ordered every meal (the night before to the asst maître D) and got seemingly everything. Inconsistency is all that gets to me, and that's still minor. ;)

Maybe they were vegetarians or gluton or lactose free or diabetic and required a special diet? Just a thought. I have read other posts about discussing special diet requirements with the Maitre D each night for the next night.

  3. Tauck would be one of the top choices in my opinion. They are all inclusive and have an excellent reputation.

We are doing a similar itinerary in October and are spending some extra days in Paris as we have not been there before. I know it will not be enough days but we hope to go back next year for a longer stay.

  4. We always choose a midship cabin for motion and stability purposes - what are the aft cabins like for up and down movement. I have always imagined them to have more movement than midships.

I would love to have the view and the balcony of the aft cabin but have always been hesitant.

  5. The most likely explanation is that they have a server that caches (stores a local copy of what it sees) the websites visited. When you go to a page that many people use it can speed things up if it's a static (not constantly changing) page. Providers use this method to reduce bandwidth used and access times but it often causes weird issues like this. It's bad if they're caching sites you log into.

Hope they don't bank at the same bank.

  6. This needing "special permission" is a whole new wrinkle that has not come to light before this!?!? Thought this was about construction going on with the bridge and now it seems it's a missing permit?

Would be interested to know if any other cruise boats are cruising under the bridge

  7. I would prefer the Line/Year proposal. I'll admit upfront that I prefer this model because Tauck have so few supporters on these boards that it could turn out to be the smallest of the threads and a heck of a lot easier for me to find out that so few Tauck clients actually frequent these boards. I guess I'll find out when I start my own roll-call for our August sailing in late June.

I have to agree. I would especially like to see all Viking cruises grouped together. That would make it much easier to find the lesser used cruises.

  8. Hi, I was reading some of the threads and I ran into this one and your post in particular. I have over 100 to lose and 2 years ago I committed and lost 80 lbs. On the flip side, I had tonsils removed and then 2 months later had to have my gall bladder removed. My dr eluded that the gallbladder was due to my weight loss. I lost the 80 in about 6 months. I ate correctly and went to the gym 5 times a week. After the surgeries things started to crumble and I slowly went back to my old ways. I am now back to my original weight. Sad since I was only about 30 lbs away from my goal. Anyhow, I need a kickstart. Something. I would very much be interested in what you did.. Thanks,,,

It is quite common to have gall bladder problems following a diet.

  9. Dave's rules of thumb: plan to arrive in an embarkation port in your nation no later than the day before; plan to arrive in a foreign port at least two nights (or 3 if you can swing it) before the cruise sails.

It may scorch the credit card, but it doesn't activate the sweat pumps ... :D

Couldn't agree more. Especially the foreign port. From where we live, we like to be well rested and over the jet lag before we board.

  10. Uniworld, no doubt provide a wonderful cruise, but I could not travel with the decor. It is just so 'over the top' I would be very uncomfortable.

I have looked at the brochures of the other river cruise companies and I think I would be happy to travel with AMA, Viking, Avalon or Scenic's decor.

  11. Just got off the phone with Ship's Services and pre-purchased the Unlimited Laundry Package. I got the wash, fold and press package and total cost for our 14-day cruise was $154.00. We will have laundry from a three day pre-cruise so will have a load to send out the first day.

It may sound like a lot dollar-wise, but it's worth it to me not to have to spend my vacation time sitting in a laundromat waiting for a machine, then waiting for clothes to wash & dry. Turn-around time for your items to be laundered, folded/pressed is 24 hours. We get back on board from a day of sightseeing, and our clothes are back in our cabin ready to be put away.

Ships Service rep told me that this would also include pressing only service that will be needed for our dress clothes for formal nights.

Thanks to all who were so helpful!

    Smooth Sailing:):)

I think you have been overcharged. A 14 day cruise should be $98. IIRC.

Our 7 day Alaska cruise was $49 unlimited laundry package. $7 per day.
