Verizon Wireless--Hawaii

tip

Recommended Posts

We shall be sailing on the Pride of America out of Honolulu in September. We shall stay for three days in the Wakiki Beach area before our cruise. The Verizon web site makes it appear that we should have service on our nationwide calling plan. Has anyone that has Verizon Wireless experienced any problems with cell service or roaming charges? What about other islands (Maui, Hilo, Kona, or Kauai)? Needless to say we shall keep our phones off once we set sail from port and are at sea.

My in-laws are in their mid-eighties and we want to be able to maintain contact each day if possible. Thanks!

As long as you are on shore away from the ship it's no different than the other 49 states. Good reception in most areas. :)

And you will also have service much of the time aboard as well (but not in the longer overnight passages between islands), because POA does not have a cellular-at-sea site in service. When you do get reception, it will be from shore-based towers so no roaming/ship charges apply. We are Verizon users on a nationwide plan and were aboard POA in February.

Enjoy POA and Hawai`i...
