You also have to remember people love to complain and some are impossible to please!!

100% agree LovetheCubs..... Attitude has a HEAP to do with how on perceive things....it you go looking for possible issues you will always finds some and if they become the focus of your cruise you come home having hated it ....decide to enjoy the cruise, focus on the fact that someone else is cooking, you get to see beautiful parts of the world and that any day on a cruise ship is better than a at work, and you will have fun despite any issues that may turn up.

My review of our Xmas sailing, so bad that we are booked again for the upcoming April 28th sailing ... :D

Looking forward to our 4/28 sailing and the reviews that will follow! I have never had a bad cruise and I even sailed on a few three day cruises[emoji33][emoji33][emoji33]. New ship, away from work and someone else doing all the cooking and cleaning, for me it’s a no brainer[emoji1]

For me, MSC Seaside was a letdown. I enjoyed my vacation and didn't want it to end, but I felt like because I wasn't a Yacht Club member, I didn't matter. There are positives and negatives, and my husband and I both agreed that if the price is right we would give MSC another chance. I wrote a lengthy review from my trip that just ended, but it hasn't been approved yet. But I can give you a few positives and negatives.

Positives: Embarkation was quick and we were on the ship by 11:30. Muster drill was quick and comfortable; our location was in the theater. Entertainment was entertaining and really well done, even if it did get repetitive. Drink prices are reasonable. They didn't shove photos down your throat like other cruise lines. The chocolate bar was my favorite place, and often quieter to sit by. The Sport's Bar was also quieter and you get complimentary chips and salsa/guacamole. The itty bitty library was awesome. I loved it! The ship is modern. You use touch screens to book reservations for shows and restaurants. I liked the specialty restaurants, especially ocean cay. The channels on the tv in the rooms aren't bad. I think it was TNT that played a lot of movies with few commercials. If you buy alcohol in port, you can bring it to your room. They don't confiscate it until the last day. This was a huge positive for us. I don't drink much but hubby likes to buy alcohol, especially in Cozumel, and we were pleasantly surprised when we took the liquor to our room, no questions asked. Even when the Tequileria delivered our tequila to the ship before leaving port, the room steward brought it to our room. It made packing the last night easier, and if you want a drink from your own stash, you have it!

Negatives: The elevators were so slow and some didn't even work! People were jumping in them even if it was going the wrong direction because if you could get in one, you got in one. You didn't want to waste that chance. We took the stairs most of the time; it was quicker. Poop smell. We were on deck 5, and there was a definite poop smell. Staff. Some were friendly, others were indifferent and didn't care, especially guest services. I can say that I still remember names of staff from previous trips, because they made it memorable for me. I won't remember anyones name from this trip, in fact I only remember the cruise director's name right now and we just got back from our trip. Most of the food wasn't very good; there were some good things, like most desserts. I ate much less on this cruise than I have on previous cruises, which I guess isn't that terrible of a thing, but on cruises you expect good food, right? MDR service was so slow. We were in marketplace buffet for dinner. It took 45 minutes to get an appetizer one night. There isn't really a lot to do, at least I didn't think so, for daily activities. I read 2.5 books in a week, and these were 400-600 page books.

There are more positives and negaties, but I don't want to overwhelm you. Honestly, don't cancel based on reviews. The trip is different for everyone. I heard people talking about how much they loved it, and I heard others who had lots of problems. I think this type of thing happens with any trip. It was still a good time and it's worth seeing the ship and experiencing it. I never saw anyone on the zip line, hubby did see two people. I only saw people in the slides on our last day. But the weather wasn't very good. It was very windy, cold, rainy, so this could be why. It's also $10 to use zipline. Arcade stuff costs money too, but they are neat options to have. I'd recommend trying the gelato, crepes, etc. Yummy. If you reserve the 815 show, make sure to get there early because it fills up fast. We never did the early show, and we did the late show on the last night, and that wasn't too busy. 815 seems to be the busiest.

Overall, I had a relaxing trip. Like I said before, I read a lot. The weather was mostly miserable, but we made the best of it. Spent too much money in the ports but had great food and found great deals.

Hey all, I am very close to traveling on the MSC Seaside, and I don't have a good feeling about my sailing 90% of the reviews have been negative and when I went on the MCS website , they have blocked all of there reviews. It is to close to cancel my trip, can anyone out there tell me that the ship is better then the reviews?

We are avid cruisers (Carnival, NCL, Celebrity, Oceania) who just came off Seaside yesterday & really recommend going in with an open mind & try not to let others negative experiences bias you before you step on board. This was our first MSC cruise. We were aurea class with anytime dining (party of 4 - 2 couples). We were promptly offered water each night & typically had a bottle of flat & bottle of sparkling. We had a combination of wine & mixed drinks. The system for bar service (mixed drinks) is different & could use improvement but not a deal breaker. Our waiter quickly got used to our request for coffee & baileys with our dessert & would ask for our card at beginning of meal & put order in for us. Once baileys came with ice, again not a deal breaker, we scooped out ice & poured into our coffee. Our waiter was personal & wanted to please & you can see how hard they all work. Overall, the space is too small for # people & tables are close together. This is a new ship, feedback is often requested & they recognize there are some glitches to work out.

I did not encounter any rude or standoffish staff, however, saw lots of rude & demanding passengers.

Our room steward was excellent. Ice everyday, without asking & without extra tip up front.

Miami beach pool area at aft - disappointingly for us was the smoking area & yes smoke does waft into interior where library is. There are other pool areas.

Shows - fantastic, talented group. Shows are short - approx 30 min. Typically arrived 10 min before & had no issue with seats (aisle which is our preference). No bad seats. Theatre would fill by showtime.

Sometimes our drink orders were wrong, we were on vacation, we simply asked them to remake, which they respectfully did. The odd time wait seemed too long (maybe 2-3 x during 7 day cruise - only reason this bothered me was I was trying to get to show). When I asked what was taking so long, they explained they had run out of wine ordered & had to go get more. Drink selection for classic drink package much better than offerings on other lines like NCL (I primarily drink wine)

Food was okay, not the best I've had on a cruise, not the worst. Butchers Cut steakhouse was excellent. Pizza is wonderful.

Spa services - massages top notch. Thermal spa, enjoyable, some glitches to be worked out. While there are baskets for people to put used towels in, often people left on floor or on chair & moved on to next experience/room. While I don't understand this mentality, this is an area where MSC will need to add more staff to pick up after others.

There were things I really loved & things I wasn't so keen on, however, based on what we paid, we put in perspective & enjoyed our vacation. I hope if you go you are able to as well.

What is it that is scaring you so much as to want to cancel?

I’m not the OP, but what I am most concerned about is how they will handle my son’s food allergies. Different reports on here describe both poor and disinterested customer service, as well as regular hiccups during dinner service. These (customer service and dining) are the two areas that need to work well to stay safe with food.

I’m not worried about friendly stewards and can even look the other way with add ons and poor elevators. But I can’t budge with food issues.

Hi: For the 8.15pm show, do you have to pre-book? If yes, do you per book on board or before embarkation. Thanks

I just got off the Seaside on Saturday. I would agree with all the negative points from previous posters on this thread. I am not a complainer. I am actually quite easy to please and not high maintenance at all. I have done a number of other cruises so I know what to expect.

There is no service on this ship. It is non-existant. I love cruising because of the service you get. There is none here. These are not glitches, these are deeper issues.

Our room steward was non-existant. I cleaned my own room all week and got my own towels and filled up my own soap. Yup, me in my pyjamas down the hall at night raiding the cart!!

There is a sewage smell on deck 5. It stayed there all week.

The ship felt crowded and the common areas are not big enough for all the people on board.

There is absolutely nothing included in your cruise fare. You get your room, the MDR seating and the buffet. That is it. Do not believe other websites including MSCs that state that things are included. Nothing is. You have to pay extra for absolutely everything else.

Positive things: I found the food good. The breakfast buffet in Marketplace is excellent. The pizza is amazing!! Very authentic. Most of the food in the MDR is good (but the lack of service lets it down), the Italian night menu is excellent and the risotto is the best I've ever had.

The casino is great. Not smoke filled. We had fun there.

People are not complaining. These are the facts. People who have not yet cruised on the Seaside have no right to say negative things about people who have cruised it. We know. We were actually on the ship.

I did not talk to a single person all week who was having a great time. We all had the same issues. The last night of the cruise there was a huge line at guest services. Most people were removing their grats and/or had billing issues.

Make your own decision about whether you cruise with them or not. But people with negatives are not complaining or making things up. I love cruising so even a bad cruise is good to me. But if MSC does not fix these issues (the ones that are fixable) they are going to lose a lot of first time cruisers. I know for myself, I will never cruise on MSC again.

...oh I forget to mention that you have to pre-book all the shows. You do it once on board. I found it annoying since you can just walk in the theatre anyway. No one is there to check if you prebooked it, so what is the point?? I loved the theatre.

Thank you for your input.

Regarding MDR. Did you have any special requests? Did the wait staff seem eager to please and understand the dishes? Were you able to make substitutions? Did you have problems ordering drinks there?

Thank you for your help.

Your experience sounds less than ideal, obviously, and it’s certainly your decision whether or not to cruise with MSC again. But I wonder if the proverbial grain of salt isn’t in order here. This is a brand new ship and design, and this is a new venture for MSC. I personally would never think of booking a cruise on a new ship. Ever. I’m also a little perplexed because while you say you spoke to no one who was having a great time, others on the same ship recently have reported really enjoying it. Perhaps it’s just not the right ship for you. I hope your next cruise is an improvement. If nothing else, after having read so many reviews like yours, I have a feeling that my expectations will be low and thus almost anything will seem like a step up.

We did not have any special requests. I cannot speak to the rest of the waitstaff but our waiter was not up to the task. There was a language barrier eventhough I understand Italian and one our group speaks a little Spanish. No service really to speak of. They did not talk to us and were not polished. It was a very rushed and frantic service. They need more training for sure.

They do not have a lot of things on the menu and drinks menu when you order. We were constantly being told that they did not have it or run out of it.

Would you elaborate a bit more on the lack of service regarding your room steward? What did they do/not do? There are certain things I expect and paid for, like my room being taken care of daily and good and attentive dining room service. If they are skimping on either of those services I will be one of the ones in line to remove my grats. Speaking of which how hard is it on MSC to remove them?

Basically, we didn't have a room steward. We saw him on the first day and that's it. He was only concerned about getting us to sign for our drink tickets and then he was gone never to be seen again. He didn't introduce himself to us or explain anything in the room etc.

When we arrived at the room on the day of embarkation, we actually thought our room wasn't ready because it was in a terrible state. The carpet had all kinds of debris on it. Dirt, large plastic clothing tags, M&M candy etc. It was gross. There was hair on the bathroom floor and grit in all the corners. Sticky substance on the nightstands. Both the hand soap and shower gel were completely empty.

He really only changed the towels everyday and that's it. I did the rest. I raided the cart everday and filled up my own shower gel and hand soap. Too many issues to report here...

There are no issues with removing grats at all. You just tell them you want them reversed and they do. No questions asked (which is kind of sad actually)

Many many people removed their grats.

I truly hope you have a better experience!

I tend to have found forewarned is forearmed regarding cruises. Really a lot of times it seems like the fact information is so difficult to find is more what upsets people than the actual information itself. The general tenor of the reviews seems to have improved a bit in the last couple of cruises, too, so I think things are improving a little. Fingers crossed, anyways.

I would also take positive reviews with a grain of salt. People are biased to rationalize that what they spent money on must have been worth it. Also, there is a stigma associated with complaining. You see that on CC a lot, but it is also true in real life. I witnessed a Brazilian lady behind me in the customer service line tell the gentleman behind her that her B2B Seaside experience had been great... two minutes later she is speaking to the customer service rep next to me and the snippet I heard went something like “terrible two weeks... everything sucked”

Stop listening to all the negative reviews. GO and enjoy. There is so much to enjoy that is so unique to MSC that the negatives should pale in comparison.

They have the most wonderful entertainment. They have the most live music all over their ships. Their ships are beyond beautiful. They have a great health record with being ULTRA CLEAN. They have staff that interact with you. They have a ship full of many nationalities so it is a cultural feast! Nothing shuts down early...there is always so much dancing on an MSC ship.

GO and enjoy.

you are the first review to talk about Dancing on the Seaside. That is what I am really interested in. How big are the dance floors? are there many dancing venues?

Booked on Seaside YC Jan 2019. Reading reviews like a champ. I am going back and forth whether to keep the cruise or not, luckily I have time to keep researching. I get that there are issues with new ships, but some of the issues sound pretty bad, like the smell on deck 5 - is that even healthy? Obviously there's a problem. No service - that's another problem. I have been on a cruise where I had a butler - didn't need him - but I do like my cabin cleaned daily, and not by myself. I go on a cruise so I don't HAVE to clean! I booked MSC YC because the price was way better than NCL Haven ( have not been on.) Even though I would be in YC, I don't like the thought of being on a ship where outside the YC it's overcrowded and smells bad - because we will of course venture out of the YC. That is more a place where we can escape the crowds - but I don't want to feel like I can't even leave it. At the same time, I am hesitant to cancel because I think the opportunity to be in YC for the same price as say a Celebrity cruise would be nice. Decisions! Thank you to fellow CC members who give such informative reviews.

I think you may be ok as a YC cruiser. The whole ship seemed to cater to that group. I can't speak to the level of service you may receive there as I wasn't YC.

I actually never had a problem finding a seat in any of the buffets (inside or out). The crowding seems to be more with the inside parts of the ship. As for the fecal/sewage smell on deck 5, unfortunately, it was there all week and quite strong at times. I smelled it other places too (never in my room or pool decks) but not as strong as deck 5.

I truly hope that you have a great experience and a great cruise!

We went ahead and canceled our spring break cruise on the seaside. Just too many variables in the overall reviews that lean toward the negative for me to be comfortable. We were able to get on another cruise out of Miami, so everything worked out. The plan for my family is to wait and hope for an improvement and at a later time and book a YC room.

I’m sure there will be some that come along and tell you you are making a mountain out of a mole hill. Or suggest now there is “more room for them.” Or tell you do not have the spirit of adventure. Or suggest you’re just not up to being a European-style cruiser. Or other things. But I am one step behind you. There are too many questions at this point for my family of 8. To me, beginning and end of being a consumer depends whole heartedly on customer service. While I am willing to except a lesser experience for a lesser dollar amount, I don’t ever make excuses for poor customer service. And while this may be typical for all new builds, I never truly appreciated that, and have learned a lesson. The only reason I have yet to cancel is I need to decide how to best handle it with my travel agent. She is also a friend, and she has done a lot of work for me on this particular cruise. Canceling it will keep her from getting any commission.

To me' date=' beginning and end of being a consumer depends whole heartedly on customer service.

You could always write her a check to cover the lost commission. That would certainly be good customer service on your part.
