Restaurant Recommendation in Barcelona?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

My wife-to-be (in 5 days) and I will be spending 1 night in Barcelona before embarking on our honeymoon cruise. We will be staying at the Hotel Colon.

As that will technically be the first night of our honeymoon, does anyone have any recommendations for a restaurant within walking distance of the Hotel Colon?

We had dinner at ATN, which was located close to a Roman excavation of tombs just off Las Ramblas on Canuda Street. The restaurant was open, even though it was about early by Spanish dinner standards. We had a wonderful meal with great service. Separate checks were not a problem with a party of six and credit cards were accepted. The next day, we had dinner at small tapas restaurant near the Plaza Sant Just on Palma De Sant Just. That restaurant, Bodega LaPalma, was not modern like ATN, but small and rustic. The tapas were excellent, with large servings for very reasonable prices. I highly recommend both restaurants.

Also, one of the restaurants is located on the corner of a large market about 100 yards east of the Cathedral Square, across the street from the Gothic area. The name of the restaurant was Cuines Santa Caterina.

The Colon also has quite a nice restaurant but it is a typical hotel restaurant without the atmoshere of other restaurants. It is also quite expensive.

Congratulations on you forthcoming wedding and have a wonderful honeymoon.

If you are heading to Las Ramblas at all, stop in at La Boqueria and hit the little bar at the back, left hand side:) Everything is fresh and it is delicious - ideal for breakfast (great quiche type food) and for lunch (lunch is really incredible):p

Their seafood is tremendous as are the other choices there.

It's amazing to watch them work in their small area - not much seating - but if you go at the right time and/or wait you will get a stool:)

We go there every time we are in Barcelona - usually take some 'newbies' and have a great time:)

So much good food in Barcelona and all of Spain - fresh and delicious - enjoy:)

Congrats! But won't the first night of the honeymoon be on the airplane?

If, and probably ONLY IF, you went to El Bulli before it closed - OR maybe if you've been mad at yourself for a year because El Bulli closed before you got to try it - go to TICKETS! restaurant in Barcelona. Since you don't have the prerequisite 60-day notice for a reservation, show up at about 11:30pm and get in line to enter at midnight when they allow about 75 more people in. This is still "dinner hour" in Barcelona. If you've already eaten, then just go check it out - I PROMISE you will have never seen anything like it - nor will you ever again!

See their website for more info, and enjoy!

Carol,

Do you have any recommendations specific for tapas and Paella? Any Flamingo shows? We are staying at Gan Hotel Torre Catalunya but don't mind traveling to the town center. Thank you.

Valerie

I recommend Cuines Santa Caterina.

CARMEN'S TABLE flamenco show and dinner was fantastic. We had tappas for dinner and they were wonderful. The show was terrific. We purchased the tickets from hotel front desk and took a cab there. LOTS of quaint shops...so if you go there...go early and browse the shops. We love our evening.
