Smoke Scare Onboard Carnival Cruise Ship

I posted last Spring about a similar issue on the Dream. There was an electrical smell and a burning smell that woke me at four a.m. I have mild asthma and I immediately used my inhaler and opened our balcony door. Hubby was not at all concerned and the problem dissipated. There were power outages/electrical issues the following day...clocks and cash registers down while the guys worked on the system...saw one guy fixing a clock. Other pax also said they smelled it. No announcement was made; probably best not to alarm everyone for minor electrical failures bound to happen over time. Wonder how often this happens.

We were on the Legend in August of '05 when oil dripped onto a hot engine part. They evacuated all the decks out to the open areas while they fixed the issue and used smoke ejectors to clear the smoke from the ship. Crew was awesome, passing out cups of water to people, finding chairs for older guests to sit in, being cheerful, etc. You can tell they get a lot of training in areas like this.

I read on another blog from a person who was on the ship and on the same floor. The smoke was from some stupid passenger stuffing a towel in a vent to make the room hotter with the heat on. This caused the system to overheat and smoke. People thought there was a fire due to water seen in the corridor but it was an unrelated event of a shower in one of the cabins backing up.

Thereby proving that very often

the most dangerous thing on your cruise ship is idiot passengers doing dumb things

like not washing their hands/properly -and stuffing towels into heating vents!!
