Celeb Equinox: Hidden Secrets?

Hi Guys,

First time cruising on any of the big liners in Europe (I've done Star Cruises once on Asia).

I'm always a big fan of finding out cool hidden secrets that you may not know unless you've experienced it before, or someone has told you etc. I'm talking things like, best place to grab a picture of the ship, best side to stand when docking for pics, where to get free wifi, best deals on ship, which food to take and not to take, cool things on this ship etc.

Anyone want to share? FYI, I'm taking the 7 night Venice to Turkey cruise on Equinox. What's cool about Equinox - what do you know that no one else does (or very few people). Share away!

She is a beautiful vessel and any open area is prime for pics!

Go up on deck 15 at night and grab a lounge chair to see the stars and hear the sea- wonderful.

Also the spot along the walk to Ensemble Lounge has cool art/ceiling lights to see.

There really isn't a bad spot. As for hidden gems I'm afraid if we ell tell our secret spots - they won't be so secret!

My DH likes the upper sun deck forward to look out at the see and I like the sunset bar on 15 aft to look out and watch the vastness.

Enjoy! We will be on Rome to Barcelona and Barcelona to Venice legs later in June!

And....don't try to learn everything ahead of time. There's nothing more special and fun than the brand new discovery of getting on a new ship for the first time - seeing things and experiencing that ooooh and aaaaah at every turn. We'll be on Equinox for the 4th time in October and we love her. You will too.

If you follow these boards some and check out some of the reviews and photo blogs that are posted, you'll be plenty prepared. But don't spoil ALL the secrets for yourself ;)

I don't want to learn EVERYTHING, but not nothing either :) You know, like if there's a show what time to go, or the casino has something special, or a hidden deck that you won't find unless you know where to go.

Good ideas so far :)

There is very little difference between the shows on a cruise ship. Some are a bit better than others, yes, but for the most part nuttin like Broadway!

The casino's on a cruise ship are, to us, just a time filler. Slot pay outs are weak weak weak. Most that play Blackjack play like they dont know how, well, gee, come to think of it, not too sure I know how. :D

Hidden deck, the stairway to nowhere was last seen on the old HAL Westerdam, and it really went nowhere!

Give Celebrity a try, you wont feel bad at all when it is time to get off, matter of a fact, you will want to find a place to hide so you can stay on!

One of the best memories of my last 2 voyages on the Equinox was the variety of entertainers in the Ensemble Lounge. Although the various entertainers change from season to season, there has been one constant who made the experience special.....Errol the bartender was always quick with a friendly greeting and he also remembered my drink choices.....even 6 months later!!! I don't know where Elaine Abras (lush song stylist from Brazil) is singing this season (perhaps on the Silhouette), but she is not to be missed.

We were on the Equinox a couple of years ago and the bartender in the casino was the best! His name was Sheldon and knew my drink and once he saw me he would start making it!

I have a question about the Solarium, I know it is enclosed. Do you still need sunblock or does the glass filter out the most of the UV rays (think that is the harmful ones)? MY DH gets sun poisoning so we must be vigilante!

Not sure if you are planning on spending on any specialty restaurants but if you are Tuscan grill is a nice place to be when you leave Venice

Depending on what time you sail away of course

This was early afternoon and a window seat view was lovely :)

Glass filters out all of the UVB spectrum however some of the UVA spectrum can still get through so there is a possibility you could get burnt if you are extremely sensitive. There are areas in the solarium though where you can be completely shaded so you wouldn't have to worry.

Not really a secret but fairly hidden is the relaxation room at front of ship and is great place to read and chill in evening or if it rains.

Relaxation room is supposed to be for Aqua class passengers only and those waiting for spa appointments. When I was not on Equinox, this was not enforced but perhaps this has changed.

Also, you have to find the secret stairway.

Wow that looks nice! But I plan on being on the deck taking photos - would never get that height advantage of Venice unless you're on the Cruise. Does the ship go through the MAIN canal, or just go past it?

Also.. are ANY drinks included when you board the ship, or is it worth it to buy the drink packages online? I'm worried it might be more expensive on the ship - and thus it's easier ot buy straight up.

IMHO a drink pkg is well worth it, and the price is the same either way.

If the pricing is the same either way - what's the difference of buying on board or not. There are 4 of us, so I reckon we'll do 2 alcoholic packages and 2 non, then just mix and share whenever no one looks lol.

The ship sails between Venice and Giudecca Island--you can look it up. If you are referring to the Grand Canal, no--I don't think it would fit under the Rialto Bridge!!

The only alcoholic beverage served is welcome champagne. Other than that, iced tea, juice, fruit punch, milk and coffee are all gratis.

I will mention that the cruiseline is savvy about people trying to share drink packages and the results are not pretty. I'd be really careful about that if I were you. And certainly this is not the place to be talking about how you're planning to break the rules. . .

Wow it was a joke. On the other thread when someone made that joke everyone laughed. Here, apparently everyone lost their humor on ships.
