MTJtraveller Posted September 2, 2009 #1 Share Posted September 2, 2009 I was thinking something different for BA would be a Tango show. Please share any advice or experiences you may have had. I was wondering if the dinner shows were good, or to go to the show only. Any suggestions where to go? I have two evenings in BA pre-cruise and wanted to go to a couple of restaurants for local dinners, doesn't have to be anything fancy. I thought a tango show/dinner combo might be the answer for one of the nights. Thanks for help!
owl61 Posted September 2, 2009 #2 Share Posted September 2, 2009 You would do well to browse / search the Buenos Aires forum of www.tripadvisor where this subject has been written about extensively. It has here to if you search tango show. There are numerous options for tango dinner shows. My advice is to dine elsewhere as the food in the tango night clubs varies from poor to pretty okay. If you go to an independent restaurant first and then the show you will have a nicer evening.
Rare Keith1010 Posted September 2, 2009 #3 Share Posted September 2, 2009 We have gone for just the tango. A very nice experience. Wonderful dancing, music and song. When we've gone we have just gone for the show and either have dinner before or after somewhere else. Keith

Sandy R Posted September 2, 2009 #5 Share Posted September 2, 2009 The best Tango demonstration we saw was while walking on Florida pedestrian street. The couples were amazing. Maybe tripadvisor can tell you when you might be able to catch it. Sorry, I can't tell you the time or day we walked along Florida Street... just happened to be there at the right time and the right place.
Rare Keith1010 Posted September 2, 2009 #6 Share Posted September 2, 2009 Many times we have seen early evening and late evening shows. The early evening shows are more oriented to the tourists as the locals like to eat late and go to these shows late. Keith
Shorex Posted September 3, 2009 #7 Share Posted September 3, 2009 We enjoyed both Esquina Carlos Gardel and El Viejo Almacen. For a more intimate evening try Cafe Tortoni, one of the Cafes Notables that will transport you back in time. At the very least stop into the Cafe Tortoni for a memorable lunch. Enjoy professional photographer Tom Dempsey's shots of Buenos Aires -- he does a great job presenting the flavors and rhythms of BA including street tango and shots from the El Viejo Almacen show. owl61 Posted September 3, 2009 #8 Share Posted September 3, 2009 Are there afternoon shows? Other than street buskers you run across at the Sunday fair in San Telmo or on Florida St here is a list of places, known as milongas, where tango is taught and danced even in the afternoons. You might find attendance at one constitutes a show. By the way there are certain rules of etiquette at these places especially concerning photography so inquire before heading out.
