boating girl Posted September 6, 2009 #26 Share Posted September 6, 2009 Never really thought of buying spices in the Carib. I always buy vanila in Mexico. Do any of the Eastern Carib. ports have spices? Next cruise goes to Grand Turk, St. Thomas and St. Maarten.
Rare Suskies Posted September 6, 2009 #27 Share Posted September 6, 2009 Let me also echo Sunny Caribbee in Tortola. Probably the nicest shop in Tortola. It prides itself on selling only spices from Caribbean islands and contributing to the economy. Very friendly service and free samples, such as juices seasoned with their spices. I got whole nutmeg for fresh grating, spiced tea, and jerk seasoning. All terrific.
JimnKaren Posted September 7, 2009 #28 Share Posted September 7, 2009 You can also find a Sunny Caribee shop in the Havensight Mall in St. Thomas. It is not as quaint as the one in Tortola, but you can still get your vanilla there. We, too, have run out during the "baking season" and have ordered it shipped from their stores. Tortola's store is an easy walk and we always end up buying much more than we really need. We use it, but we don't need it! Jim
shopperwhite Posted September 7, 2009 #29 Share Posted September 7, 2009 much of the vanilla sold is not PURE vanilla. you have to check carefully the ingredients and don't believe all they tell you.
