Carnival Triumph worker faces child porn charge

Some parents think that just because their kids are in a "group"...that they are safe.

They would not think this if they had seen the pictures that a child molester had on his computer of him on a cruise (no cruise line was named) sitting with a GROUP of kids and they were all drinking something???

sounds to me like the law must have known ahead of time what he was up to. Otherwise, why would they have looked at his computer? Sounds like someone knew and turned him in. Maybe even another crew member.

Who knows? Hooray for whoever that person was!!

The Canadians do random searches of people's laptops. I know they do that to business travelers in airports. Not that common, and not happened to me personally but I have read about it. They do not have to suspect anything. You can be searched for no reason at all.

This is absolutely true - you do not want to mess with Canadian customs or border officials! My 20 yr old nephew (from LA)was here for a visit last month and they checked his laptop - even his cellphone and cellphone messages - asked him all sorts of questions about his 'facebook' page, why he was here etc..... Luckily he is a very polite young man and was not fazed in the least - so was able to answer all the questions and was finally 'released'. yes Auntie froufie had to go ask the nice immigration officer to please let him 'into the country'.... actually maybe they are a bit overzealous? But I guess that's how they catch the 'bad guys'?

It makes you wonder how well Carnival does backround checks on their pending employees.

Well if the guy never had a problem with the law before, the most thorough background check possible would have cleared him.

Because he was Indonesian, he was most likely working in a role that did not have direct contact with children. Not to be racist, just that the nationality of the Camp Carnival staff tends to be American, Canadian, Austrailian... in other words, places where English is the first language.

When someone is arrested, the first thing they do is take their computers and anything else that may lead them to what they can get to prosecute them. This is pretty much standard procedure anymore. And when it comes to pedophiles they probably have Porn on their computers.

This is such sad news. I hope this opens the eyes of the parents that let their children run all over the ship w/o any supervision.

Yep. Another place you don't want to mess with is Bermuda. Their police sometimes come on to cruise ships with drug dogs and can enter your cabin and have a sniff at your stuff. They have caught people with pot locked in the safe!

Most places do not go to those lengths but some do. It just goes to remind you... when you cruise, you check your rights as a US citizen at the gangway. They do not travel with you.

Background checks? That is such a laugh. That guy from Canada that murdered his X wife was on a TV show and they did a background check on him too. They missed a lot of red flags with that guy.

The guy did not have to have "direct contact" with children, he could have grabbed one that was wandering around w/o any adult supervision. These sickos have ways of manipulating our little ones.

Let's just be glad he is not on the ship any more, and (unless he is found innocent at trial) will never be on another one.

This is another reason parents may want to think twice before cruising with kids. The main reasons we do not take our kids are that we have a land vacation we always do in the summer, that the kids love. We like to save money by cruising in the off season when the kids are in school, so they can't come. If they were with us, and they were young (my youngest is 15, and he could whip any molester nine ways to Sunday) I would not let them out of my sight unless they were at Camp Carnival.

Parents need to wake up. We took our kids on 3 cruises and knew where they were at all times. Even as teens. I will never understand these so called "parents" who think that just because they are on a cruise ship they are safe from everything. Wake up people anything can happen any where at anytime. IMHO

I think you have the right idea. We never cruised with our children but only because it was expensive when are children will still living at home. We took a lot of land vacations. I am from San Antonio so we took a lot of vacations to go and see my Mother.

But never understatement a molester, even if your son could "whip any molester nine ways to Sunday" Those men are the most evil and they do not care what they have do to get what they want, our children.

Those men and some women being a sicko isn't gender biased.

I have two young teenagers and they are always either with me or my husband onboard. There are just too many things that can happen. I really can't understand why anyone would take the risk of letting them wander off by themselves. And as to background checks, does anyone really think that a background check in a third world country is the same as a background check here? Never mind that they sometimes miss something here.

Well, we took our two daughters on the Fantasy two weeks ago and their friend. We did NOT have them with us at all times and there were blocks of time we did not know their exact whereabouts. They were given times to check in, which worked for us, met us for lunch and dinner, high tea and other events, but it all worked out. If it works to have your teen with you at all times on the ship, great, but my teens would find this confining since we don't do this at home, in hotels, etc. They are both graduating and leaving for college soon, so I figure it's about time for them to get accustomed to the real world and how to handle different situations.

Wow, this is news to me. I guess I've lived a sheltered life. I have been to Canada by car, but had never been searched. Wouldn't matter anyway, my life thankfully is an open book.

Parents, you can never ever be too careful or protective of your precious little ones! :D
