Grocery/Convenience Store Near Manhattan Cruise Terminal

Hello everyone. We sail out of Manhattan on Oct. 4 on the lovely NCL Dawn.

After we hand off our luggage, we want to purchase soft drinks and bottled water for the cruise.

Could anyone recommend a nearby grocery store?

Also, what is the best way to traverse 12th Avenue? Is there a crossover?

Thanks to any who answer.

If you walk to 10th Avenue, you will find numerous bodegas where you can purchase water and soda; it won't be cheap. If you walk down to 43rd between 9th & 10th there's a Food Emporium supermarket, and a CVS drugstore at 42nd & 10th. There's a new wine/liquor store at 43rd & 10th. As for crossing 12th Avenue, there are numerous stoplights, as well as an overpass at 46th Street.

There are crosswalks opposite each pier, i.e., 48th, 50th, and 52nd Streets. For a supermarket try D'Agostino at 815 Tenth Avenue (54th Street).

D'Agostino will charge regular Manhattan supermarket prices, not necessarily the same supermarket prices you're used to at home. If you're just looking for a bottle or two and nothing more you might as well just pop in to a bodega.

You should also check out the Walgreen's at Broadway/7th Avenue & 42nd Street (the old NY Times tower, where the ball drops on New Year's eve). This week they have a 24 pack of 16.9 oz. bottles of Aquafina Water on sale for $4.49, and may have something similar when you're in town.

  • 4 years later...

it hasn't changed that much. just remember besides the price on the shelf in the supermarket/drug store to add deposit .05 per bottle and tax so the 4.49 case of water is six bucks...still cheaper than the ship. you can bring a refillable and put in the fridge or do what I do when I am in NJ buy a case for 2.49 with no deposit or tax/

That does make a lot of sense, but we just didn't want to lug a whole case of water n the train with us. If not a case, then we will at least bring a few large bottles and refill them OFTEN! haha

Also remember NY State has bottle deposit on water if it does not have surgar.

Five cents per container.

Carbonated Soft Drinks

Including Sparkling Water, Carbonated Energy Drinks, Carbonated Juice (anything less than 100% juice, containing added sugar or water)

Soda Water

Beer and Other Malt Beverages

Mineral Water - Both carbonated and non-carbonated mineral water

Wine Products

Water which does not contain sugar, including flavored or nutritionally enhanced water

but not bottles of ice tea. The rules are very strange. no deposit and no tax. I drink and buy snapple all the time in NY and NJ...NJ taxes them but there is no deposit.
