Take a moment to remember those on 9/11 - off topic but important

Recommended Posts

9/11 is never off topic. We should never forget what our fellow Americans that perished when through on that day. And we should not forget our fellow Americans that fight for our freedom, keep crime off our streets, and put out fires each and everyday. Thanks for posting.:)

Refering to "our fellow Americans" assumes that all your readers on the forum are American too. This sort of assumption is probably one reason why American's can irritate those of us from other countries - you are either ignoring us or are not aware we exist!

9/11 was a terrible horror and here in Ireland we had a National Day of Mourning for the victims. All business, schools etc.. closed as a mark of respect to the victims and I supported that whole heartedly. I certainly remembered what day today was. However I feel Mark was right, this is not the forum. This forum is for cruising matters and while very understandable the original post was out of place. Just MHO and not intended to cause any offence.

Thank you to the people who understand what remembrance is. No one is forcing you to remember or insulting you. I also believe there is no wrong forum for honoring those that died, those that fight and those that gave of themselves on 9/11.

I don't understand the intentions of those that would come here and complain. If you don't want to remember with others, or pay homage or just post about it then skip the post.

I for sure am not forcing anyone to click on this post.

You nailed it. There is absolutely NO wrong forum for remembering 9/11. Too bad there are some that seize the opportunity to pounce and take perverse pleasure in posting negative remarks. We live in Texas and wanted in some small way to contribute to the recovery of NYC. So, guess what we did ... on 9/11, we booked a Princess cruise and sailed out of NYC Harbor. Helicopters hovered overheard and escorted the ship past the Statue of Liberty. Young men with the Coast Guard boarded the ship as an extra security precaution. We chatted with two of them both of whom were in the area the day of the bombing. They said the real story was the schools that were close to the World Trade Center and the heroic teachers who stayed with the children and kept them calm until parents could get to the school to take them home. It was extremely emotional. There wasn't one dry eye in the entire crowd. We've been back many times since that day. NYC is our very favorite city in the entire world! Absolutely, we'll pay homage and remember 9/11.

Our Nat'l Symbols

Its not that they are not our national symbols, but the fact is that it turns into who can post the pictures of the flag, or who has the biggest flag, ect.

a few days after 9-11 I was asked by a coworker why I did not have a American flag on my car. Mt response was because I did not feel the need o do so. I was then accused of not being patriotic, and not loving our country.

I went through the this one other time in my life when I was acused of being a commie pinko f@g for not supporting the Vietnam war.

Its not what you do on 9-11 when you remember what happened, its what goes on the other 364 days of the year that defines who you are and what you believe. its to easy just to remember 9-11 on 9-11. If thats all you do you have done nothing.

see after the fact no one really wants to do anything that is of any meaning, just look at NYC. After 9-11 the subway system was identified as the #1 easy target in the city. Nothing has been done to improve security of the subway system there, execpt they did spend over 150 million dollers and all they have to show for it is a bunch of lawsuits.

Patirtism is much more than than posting something on a cruise message board, or posting a picture of a flag and a eagle.

so if everyone feels better because of this thread more poweer to you, but the fact is it does nothing.

This is a national day of rememberance from a tragic event that effected many of us. There is nothing wrong with taking a step back and remembering what happened on the anniversary date.

Those of you trying to close this thread by being contenteous, well, that is what is truely sad. And to hide behind free speech or "patriotism" as an excuse to argue......that's just plain pathetic.

There's only 4 hours left in this day (EST). Just let those of us who care to...remember and reflect!

Dont take offence to this, but if you feel that way, you should not have come into the forum and you certainly should not have posted. There are many other threads for you if you feel this thread should not be there.

You are in the extreme minority here, so my suggestion to you would be to stop opening this thread.

Amen, Amen, Amen

For someone to have started this thread and so many to have posted in agreeance here, this is obviously a subject near and dear to our hearts.

What's next for you naysayers? We can't post "Merry Christmas" on Christmas because it isn't cruise related? Come on. Who appointed you the board police?

Please, I ask this with all sincerety. Please let the mods do their job. If it's not appropriate they will delete it, lock it, or move it. Otherwise, if you don't agree with this thread, please just skip it. It will disappear tomorrow.

To the original OP- Thank you !!!! your post was beautiful and thought provoking!!!! and it truly is sad that a handful of people have done their best by way of their opinions to bicker over something that should be bringing people together in rememberance, even if it just for one day....

Remembering September 11 is always worth a Thread- wherever, in whatever language we may speak or write and on every board I can think of! !!!!
I sailed on board the Brilliance of the Seas at the day of the first anniversary. It was a very touching day- even for all non Americans- with the Service and the minute of silence held througout the ship- it was a Transatlantic so the Silence was - real silence!
During the service I can not think of any eye that kept dry.
Greetings
Michael
