Really in need of advice...

I live in Orlando and like it but have to agree that Disney in August is less than ideal and it rains almost every afternoon (adding to humidity). I'm not sure if you mentioned whether or not you're working around school schedules, but if not, avoid summer at Disney. The difference is night and day. For example, I took my girls last Sunday and we literally walked onto every ride -- no wait. We went at the end of August (season passes) and left after an hour because the lines and crowds were too much.

I'd save Disney for a cooler time of year (October/Nov is great) and do a cruise in the summer.

JMO (You'll have fun even if you do Disney in August, its just more fun at other times)

Let's see -- Hot Sun, Long Lines, Screaming/Crabby/Hot Kids or Hot Sun, Ocean Breezes, No Lines, Laughing/Happy Children on a new ship -- No question what I would pick. The best time we had at Disney was the week before Thanksgiving - Cooler weather and no lines. Definately got our moneys worth.
