Light luggage question

My dh and I are going on a two week re-po cruise on Oct. 30. We leave from NYC which we can drive from home, and end up in Miami, where we fly home Continental Airlines. I am looking for lightweight luggage. We'll pay for one bag each and I'd like to get as much of that 50 pounds in clothing as possible. Suggestions please.

Thanks!

Terri

Terri,

This article is pretty good. Remember that every ounce you add in luggage weight is an ounce you remove from what you can take. Given that, the most lightweight pieces are usually duffel bags (ballistic nylon, a couple zippers and a handle, no wheels, no struts or support), but you would be hard pressed to find one that holds 50 lbs of clothing that you can easily carry. You might have to trade off a set of wheels, and if you do that, check the weight of a wheeled duffle vs. a regular suitcase. For most people, the extra pounds of a structured or framed suitcase are worth the protection that provides.
