trish1c Posted January 3, 2005 #3 Share Posted January 3, 2005 You should be fine. SJU is a very busy AP on Sundays. As long as you don't have weather / mechanical delays on the take off end you should make the ship without problems. We were originally scheduled to arrive at 5 pm last year. We ended up flying standby & getting in earlier which was fabulous. It dosen't cost extra so if you can't fly in in the day before & you've already bought your tickets, try that. Enjoy! Mac'sMom Posted January 4, 2005 #4 Share Posted January 4, 2005 If at all possible fly in the day before. We have been delayed through San Juan on more than one occasion - for the most part due to airline delays - we have to fly from Green Bay, Wisconsin, which usually means a change in Chicago, and often another change in Miami. We have been delayed in winter - snow in Wisconsin, Illinois - also delayed in August - thunderstorms in Florida - so you never know! On one of those delays we were so happy to be flying in a day early - our flight was delayed because of weather - bags some how ended up on another flight - we were still in the airport at midnight waiting for the bags to arrive. The airline would have delivered them to us at our hotel, but we decided not to risk it and waited for the flight they were on to come in. So glad we had planned the night in San Juan before the cruise! At least we got to the hotel, with our baggage, and the cruise left the following day. Rubia_Boricua_PR Posted January 4, 2005 #5 Share Posted January 4, 2005 I also recommend if possible to fly the day before, anything can happen, delays, storms, luggage. You should always try to arrive to your destination early when cruising since anything is possible.
mafig Posted January 4, 2005 #6 Share Posted January 4, 2005 Rubia (or anyone else, for that matter). Sorry for asking this here, but I thought you guys might know. We're on the Star Princess which docks in San Juan from 4pm to midnight. My dh and I thought we'd take a cab to the El San Juan -- just to see the hotel, maybe have dinner, do the casino. What do you think? How much would the cab fare be (about). Thanks.
Rubia_Boricua_PR Posted January 4, 2005 #7 Share Posted January 4, 2005 Well you are gonna get there around rush hour and it's about a 20 minute drive without traffic but i can't tell you how much would the fare be. I do think it's a nice idea, i love El San Juan!
cruizeblues Posted January 4, 2005 #8 Share Posted January 4, 2005 We've flown in the same day as the cruise twice--arriving at 2:45 and had no problems. We were flying in the summer, so probably less risk for weather-related delays. Also departed at 3:30 with no problems--makes for a pretty relaxed departure day! Left the ship at about 11, caught the shuttle to the airport, got through check-in quickly and had about 1.5 hours to wait for our plane. (good day to catch up on your reading!) London, Canada Posted January 4, 2005 #9 Share Posted January 4, 2005 We are flying in the day of departure - Feb. 6/05 from Detroit, thru Atlanta then onto San Juan...not sure if I can mention the airline here or not but it starts with a "D"...we just got back from Las Vegas and had and are still having trouble getting reimbursed for delayed luggage. I am nervous because of the problems "D" had a Xmas time, but have been told we don't have to worry about the carrier with the computer problems at Xmas... We always purchase our airfare thru RCI for extra protection. Has anyone ever had to call on RCI to help out to get to the port on time? I might be worrying for nothing but just getting back from a bad experience doesn't make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
